Barry picked us as one of his five picks in the east. He seems impressed with JR's moves this offseason. Things must have changed in a week, he went from loving Tampa to them not even being on his picks.

Yeah, I know...I was rather surprised to see us in Barry's top five instead of Tampa too. But, he seems impressed with our defense and Staal.

Um, yeah, I about fell out of my seat when I heard him pick us. Has hell frozen over?

Even if Eric Staal isn't the next Ron Francis, if nothing else he is putting our name back in the news. Not just the N&O, nationally and in Canada. It is real refreshing.

Yeah but on the side to make you puke, he put Detroit at the top of the West..and kissed Hasek's ass so much I thought he would pass out!!   He picked them ahead of the Avs...yeah right!

...And pronounced Aebischer's name incorrectly while he was at it...
Not that I'm picky or anything.
Then again, what do you expect from the folks in Bristol?

He doesn't play for the Wings so what does it matter that he got it wrong?? :p ;) <<Barry's reasoning!

I don't understand it? The wings probaly are the most solid top to bottom team in the league.
Av's don't have any proven goaltending, so at this point in the season I'd pick The Red Wings over the av's also!

melrose loves hasek, doesn't he? i lost count of the number of times he gushed over him or brought up his name with little or no provocation. :D
barry must have felt sorry for us last year, that is the only explanation for putting us in his top 5...or perhaps he felt he had to pick somebody from the southeast and simply decided to be anti-TB this season...

Knowing Barry and his feelings towards the Southeast, I'm quite surprised that he didn't at least have the Canes as the "sleeper pick", and instead had the Stanley Cup champion New Jersey Devils as that!

I've noticed a lot of sentiment swinging back towards the Canes this year.
I think people are beginning to realize what a great off-season we had. I am really encouraged by the much-improved defense (wish Igor K. could have been kept around though).

My guess is that a Caniac dragged him in the woods at the Jimmy V and had a ........ummmmmmmmmm..little chat with him!!

Either that or maybe the good ol' southern hospitality here finally got to Barry...I remember me and Hyena/Amanda passing by when he was getting ready to tee off at a hole, and he was on a microphone answering questions about the Canes in a positive manner! Needless to say, that was a rather shocking sight...

Indeed it has, SHC, just in time for the NHL season to commence. And those pesky  skated to a 3-3 tie on it...
:) (sorry... couldn't resist.)

I totally agree with you on that one cmw. I would have to give the Avs an edge in scoring but without Roy, they are not as solid in goal.

The avs are going to outscore just about everyone in the league.
Their D and 'tending is in question....
but, even if they give up 3-4 per game.... most nights they'll top that.

I love Barry Melrose. I'm going to grow a mullett in his honor. I challenge everyone, girls and guys, to do the same.
