I'm on for the first Halloween as well.....Michael Myers rules! Scream is a favorite as well. And Suspiria is a great one! Very scary!

We always have a Halloween party and it used to be an all-night horror movie marathon but since we moved here none of our friends like horror movies. Now I know who to invite this year!!!

Original Halloween is probably mine... M.M. is the shizznit.

though the shining runs a close 2nd. if the question was books, not movies, the shining might be tops.

The aforementioned Shining and Scream (I and perhaps II....III just didn't do it for me) are favs of mine. The Gift was also a pretty good movie, though a classic by no means.

Those scary movies have always made me laugh. Seriously. The only ones that will really freak me out are the ones that are supposed to be based on true stories like The Exorcist and The Amityville Horror.

Anyone see the tv mini-series remake of The Shining with the dude from Wings and Rebeckah DeHorny? Stephen King reportedly was ticked about Kubrick's interpretation of the original, taking out the topiary from the book. He also was peeved about how Nicholson was over-the-top.

Aside from learning more about the events that happened over the years at the Overlook, it blew...

I think Nicholson's over-the-top interpretation MADE the movie. He was awesome it it. Plus the maze really made the ending.

Halloween and MM a distant 2nd

___
Sidenote--anyone see the Simpson's "Treehouse of Terror" where they redid The Shining? Classic!

Wow...I never knew that about that so-called remake. As much as I like Stephen King, both as a writer and person (If I could ever meet a writer to chat with for an hour or two, it would either be Stephen King or John Byrne (A writer for the Fantastic Four comic book.).), I am not afraid to admit that he definitely had a creative fart in not only thinking that the original was not good and Nicholson was too much, but especially having the guts to remake a movie that practically cannot be topped. Regardless of what King thought, Nicholson easily showed how he was the best actor for his role in The Shining, period. Heck, if I was a producer who ever needed someone to play a madman, possessed man, or psycho killer in a film, Nicholson would immediately be the first one I'd call. Nicholson *was* The Shining...though the maze ending really helped too.

Yeah! I think I did see that! That was where Homer kept bursting into the kitchen saying stuff like "Heeeere's David Letterman!" and Bart and/or Marge countered back with "Put a sock in it Homer!". Good stuff... :D

I like Stephen King books too. I usually think the book is WAY better than the movie. My favorite King movie is The Stand. I thought they did a great job with that. I'm not a huge fan of The Shining--either version.

The Gift is a weird movie.......not bad, just weird.

I have to agree here when it comes to Stephen King. Love the books, not crazy about the movies, except for The Shining.

Not a King fan, books or movies, although I didn't hate "The Shining" (Kubrick version). "Signs" had its scary moments (yes, aliens freak me out). Hannibal Lecter is scary in any movie (Anthony Hopkins is just so good at being bad...).

I am not the person to go to a scary movie fest - I am easily freaked and grossed out!

Believe it or not, I've never been into scary movies.

But I did like "Event Horizon", and I loved "The Stand" (even though that really isn't horror in the classic sense--more of the classic struggle between good and evil)

I agree about the aliens, with Signs, that scared the crap out of me when that alien walked past that ali way. OHHH scary..

I used to like the Shinning, but it got to the point it started being funny, so I would say its exactly a horror movie to me... :D

I'm glad you mentioned Suspiria SHC! It's one of my favorites as well, has a great soundtrack as well (cd comes free with the DVD!) I was pretty shocked when I saw that first death scene in the opening ten minutes...... though it looks quite fake it's still pretty gruesome to think about.

I've always loved A Nightmare on Elm Street. Though I've seen them all several times now they got progressively sillier as the series went on (except for New Nightmare which had a whole different take on the series) but the original is by far the best in my book. (Then part 3) You know a series is just about dead when in part 6 Freddy kills a kid by putting him inside a videogame and having the characters kill him while making horribly lame jokes about the power glove...........

As this thread is about favorite scary movie and not favorite movie that scared you, I won't be able to mention that when I was little I had constant nightmares about the My Little Pony movie, a movie which I don't think many people would associate as being classified as a scary movie. That witch just freaked me out though........

YAY!!! Someone else has seen it! I'm impressed! We had the soundtrack in during out Halloween party this year and our friends got so freaked out just by the music that they made us turn it off!

That 1st scene is rough. And don't forget the barbed wire room......eeewwwww.
