And he probably has enough frequent flyer miles by now to make an offseason trip to the Czech Republic for free! :crazy:

RALEIGH, N.C. – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the team has recalled left wing Tomas Kurka from Lowell of the American Hockey League. Kurka was reassigned to Lowell on Thursday and had an assist in the Lock Monsters’ 4-2 win against Portland last night.

Kurka (5’ 11”, 190 lbs.) was selected by Carolina in the second round, 32nd overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He scored his first NHL goal in his NHL debut on Feb. 26 at Phoenix and has totaled three goals and two assists in 11 NHL games. On Tuesday, Kurka scored a goal against Toronto for his fifth NHL point. In 61 games with Lowell this season, Kurka, 21, has 17 goals and 12 assists (29 points) and ranks fifth on the team in scoring. A native of Most, Czech Republic, Kurka turned professional last season and had 13 goals and 15 assists (28 points) in 71 regular-season games with Lowell.

And did you read in the paper that Kurka didn't have a frequent flyer card until recently? It said that Watt realized it when they were flying to Montreal to play last weekend. Wonder if they'll apply the miles retroactively? :crazy:

YES! I speak with authority as a travel agent! (or guess I should say former travel agent after today. . . . :roll: )

As long as you can provide your ticket number, you can get credit for past-dated trips, no older than 6 months past. All it takes is a phone call to the airlines. Hope somebody'll help out the kid!

In the paper today, Kurka said he was enjoying it. I bet the comparison between the AHL and the NHL is interesting and motivating for making the big club next year.

Once you get a taste of charter planes and 4 star hotels, the transition to bus travel and the Holiday Inn must be hard ;)

Vrbata was skating today..so I assume he will return to the lineup..and I couldn't remember if anyone mentioned that Jan was back on the ice. :)
