Glad to see him finally put another one in the back of the net. He was getting the chances and just couldn't finish them.

Flyers get even with Devils
Associated Press
3/17/2003
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Sami Kapanen had a goal and two assists and the Philadelphia Flyers beat New Jersey 4-2 on Monday night to move into a first-place tie with the Devils in the Atlantic Division.
Eric Desjardins, Tony Amonte and Eric Weinrich also scored and Roman Cechmanek made 27 saves as the Flyers won their third straight and beat New Jersey for the first time in five games (1-3-1) this season.
Jim McKenzie and Patrik Elias scored for the Devils, who have lost five of their last seven games.
Both teams have 11 games left in the regular season.
The Flyers played one of their best periods of the season in taking a 2-0 lead in the first on odd goals by Kapanen and Desjardins.
Kapanen, who had not scored since his first game as a Flyer on Feb. 8, got his eighth of the season 3:53 into the game. He carried the puck into the Devils' zone, stopped near the blue line and took a shot at Martin Brodeur. The goaltender dropped the puck at his skates and then put it into his own net trying to play it with his stick.
Desjardins scored at with 4:47 left in the period after a sequence in which the Flyers kept the puck in the Devils' zone for more than 90 seconds. Kapanen eventually took a shot from the corner that deflected off teammate Keith Primeau's face. Desjardins swatted the loose puck into the net off the skate of Devils' defenceman Richard Smehlik.
McKenzie got the Devils back in the game at 2:49 of the second period with a shot that appeared to deflect off Flyers defenceman Chris Therien.
Amonte took the crowd out of the game less than two minutes later, with a slam dunk goal after a great pass by Jeremy Roenick from behind the net.
Weinrich made it 4-1 with a short-handed goal at 10:10 that was set up by Kapanen, who was acquired from Carolina.
Elias got his third goal in as many games early in the third period, but the Devils never got any closer.
Notes: Between the second and third periods, a portion of President Bush's address to the nation was played for the crowd at the Continental Airlines Arena. Cheers erupted five times, the loudest when Bush announced that Saddam Hussein had 48 hours to leave Iraq and when the president finished. Seconds later a chant of ``U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A'' echoed through the building. ... The loss was only the Devils' second against an Atlantic Division opponent (9-2-5). ... New Jersey was 0-for-3 on the power play. They are now 1-for-42 in their last 12 games. ... The Flyers now have points in 13 of 15 games (9-2-2-2).

Sorry guys but I have to be the bad apple in this Sami love fest. Sami now has as many goals for the Flyers as Bruno has for us. I hope that Bruno ends up with more than Sami just to make Bobby Clarke look bad. His problem here was he could not finish his chances either, same problem he is having in Philly with a whole lot more talent around him. COuld it be that Sami is not as good as we all thought?

COuld it be that Sami is not as good as we all thought?
Could it be that you're just bitter or something?
Sami is having his worst ever season, after he's been just nails (and money) for us in every single freaking season since the move from Hartford (and played well on the second and third lines in Hartford).
What is up with your Sami-hate? Seriously. First you accuse him (on at least three occasions) of deliberately doggin' it to force a trade--something that Sami would never do because he's a professional--and now you're saying that he's not as good as his...oh, I dunno... SEVEN SEASONS with this team might suggest?
What'd the guy do, run over your dog or something? Seriously.

First off, I do not hate Sami I just feel as if he has been overrated for sometime here at Carolina. You say that he has been money for us while he was here, name one season when he did not go through an extended scoring slump. Everybody said that he would break out of it when he got traded. Here wwe are two months later and Bruno has as many goals for us as Sami does for the Flyers. My only point is that he was annointed by the fans and the media here and made all-star teams when there were far more worthy candidates on the Canes(O'Neill and Francis). As far as professionals never dogging it in order to get traded or improve their teams draft status if you believe that then you also probably believe that Saddam does not have chemical weapons. Are you French? You have your opinion on players and I have mine. I am sorryif I have offended the keeper of all that is virtuous about the Canes. ANd last but not least, why would I be bitter, he is no longer on the Hurricanes and I believe that we are a better team because of the trade. So I should be happy not bitter, right?

Coulda fooled me. Seriously.
You say that he has been money for us while he was here, name one season when he did not go through an extended scoring slump.
"extended scoring slump"? What? You're kidding, right? Sami, like all of our other scorers, has tended to score in bunches. I fail to see what kind of point you are trying to make, here.
Name me one season where (for example) Jeff O'Neill hasn't gone through a scoring slump of any kind--and then when you're done, tell me again why you're not doggin' him like you dog Sami?
Everybody said that he would break out of it when he got traded.
Who is this "everybody" you speak of? I can count the number of people that said that on one hand--and I know for damn sure that my name isn't on that list.
My only point is that he was annointed by the fans and the media here and made all-star teams when there were far more worthy candidates on the Canes(O'Neill and Francis).
Ahhh, now the truth comes out--you're jealous because Sami was our perennial All-Star rep, and Ronnie and Jeff didn't get to make it!
Hey, thanks for confirming that.
The fans like Sami because he's a pitbull. He works hard every shift and tries to contribute wherever he can, and he's good to the fans. But I guess the only thing that matters to you is scoring, so we can just throw all that out the window.
As far as professionals never dogging it in order to get traded or improve their teams draft status if you believe that then I feel for you.
Show me where I said that.
Put your answer right here: ______________
And when you get done, I'll thank you to cease twisting my words into something that I never said.
I am sorryif I have offended the keeper of all that is virtuous about the Canes.
Hey, thanks for throwing out red herrings. No really, I mean that--my cats love herring.

Ok to answer your first question. Your exact quote"-something that Sami would never do because he is a professional-" Now either I am reading this way out of context or you had a momentary lapse and did not remember that you wrote it. As far as being jealous, I am not a member of the Carolina Hurricanes thus why should I be jealous over who gets picked for the all-star team. Just a point that imho opinion O and Ronnie are much better players and were way more deserving than Sami to be named all stars the last two years that Sami was picked. I am sure it had something to so with the all star format as well. While I will agree with your point that everyone goes through scoring slumps, Sami's seem to be longer than most. What that is due to I have no idea, but going back I cannot ever remember a slump of over 20 games for O, Ronnie or even Marty Gelinas when he was with the team and they placed him on waivers.
You want me to quit being a"patronizing yobbo" then I suggest you quit telling me what my feelings towards members of the Canes are. They are my opinion, just as you have yours, and if I remember correctly I have never claimed you hate or are bitter about someone because of the opinions you have given.

The Flyers got beat by the Sabres last night 5-2, so it was a little wake-up call after the big game against the Devils.
Have to remember though that Esche was in goal. Cechmanek is a very consistent goaltender. He is one big reason the Flyers are doing so well right now.

actually, Roman, historically, has been one of the most inconsistent things about the Flyers. This year he has been better... but I'm still far from putting a "very consistent goaltender" label on him.
even as much as I'd like to. it's the missing piece.

guyute's exactly right...he has no consistency because he plays with no style (not like fashion clothes type of style). Watch him play sometime...it's more a kamakaze type of play. He never makes the same move twice.
That's why he will NEVER lead his team to the Finals.

First off, I do not hate Sami
Coulda fooled me. Seriously.
You say that he has been money for us while he was here, name one season when he did not go through an extended scoring slump.
"extended scoring slump"? What? You're kidding, right? Sami, like all of our other scorers, has tended to score in bunches. I fail to see what kind of point you are trying to make, here.
Name me one season where (for example) Jeff O'Neill hasn't gone through a scoring slump of any kind--and then when you're done, tell me again why you're not doggin' him like you dog Sami?
Maybe it's the timing of his slumps or something, but I've certainly heard more complaining about Sami's slumps than any other player.
Everybody said that he would break out of it when he got traded.
Who is this "everybody" you speak of? I can count the number of people that said that on one hand--and I know for damn sure that my name isn't on that list.
The old threads are gone, but certainly people speculated that Sami had the monkey off his back (particularly since he scored in his first game as a Flyer) and that he could return to form. In any event, if you (or other people) weren't saying that, the alternative was that his slump would continue, so that would lend itself to Jillsdad's original comment about Sami's current ability.
Anyway, I do think it's an interesting question about where Sami's productivity will land, back where it has been in the past, or not. I didn't get that Jillsdad was slamming Sami with the question to begin with.
I know people think JR was dealing too little, too late, but it seems like the trades will end up being what's best for the players that left and better for the team that remains.

Well I have to admit I haven't really followed Cechmanek before this year. But this season he has done very well.
