Not sure if anyone here would be interested in this type thing, but the HLS2 sim league i'm in is trying to recruit some new GMs, and since we have such a bustling fantasy hockey community here... :)

Here's the basic rundown. The league is called the Transamerican Hockey League (THL) (http://www.transhockey.com) and is run by my brother, who lives in Garner. The league is in it's 6th season and has GMs hailing from here to Yukon.

The setup is this - every year, a 16-team 'junior' league is created using computer-generated (fictional) players, a 60-game 'junior' season is run, we are given the full stats, and we have a draft. Then we make trades and cuts and end up with a 25-man roster. Players hang around for 10 seasons before retiring, so it's not like you have to start from scratch every season.

Then we set our lines, and each weekend, a week's worth of games are simulated. We then get the results, and have all week to make changes as we see fit, make trades, cut the guys who aren't getting the job done, sign free agents, yadda yadda, and then the next weekend, the next week is run.

There is a 'major' league and a 'minor' league called the 'Transeuropean Hockey League' (TEHL). At the moment we're looking to stock up the minor league, with the hope that you will enjoy the league and take on a major league team.

If anyone has any interest, check out the website linked above and see what you think. Personally i think the whole thing is a blast, even more fun than the Yahoo fantasy leagues i'm in. Drop me a PM or an e-mail if you are curious.

Im doing a league very simialir to this, except were using real players...but I like this idea too

couple of questions Mo....

how are your players rated?

Where do you get the fictional characters?

do you use FHL for simming games?

how much time do you spend a week with this league?

do you think someone could participate in multiple leagues simialir to this?

With my other league, since we started it from scratch (3 solid months of drafting lol) it has to have my top priority, but since this has fake players, I dont think Ill confuse the two, and would like to participate in this as well...assuming it wont take that much away from my other league

The players are rated in 13 (IIRC) different categories... skating, passing, shooting, puck control, checking, aggression, fatigue, etc. I can't remember all of them but can find out.

Where do you get the fictional characters?

It's all done at random - a boatload of first names and surnames are macro'd into the computer, which randomly snags one of each, and then randomly gives it a rating from 0-9 in the 13 categories. Then the player is randomly thrown onto a junior team, the junior season is simmed, and we all peruse the results trying to find the next Dudeman.

do you use FHL for simming games?

We use Bethesda Software's Hockey League Simulator 2 (HLS2), which is pretty much comparable to FHL.

how much time do you spend a week with this league?

It varies. Sometimes i'll spend all of 5 minutes in a week at it, while other weeks i'm at it for hours. Really depends on how well my team does each week, as well as how bored i am. Like many things internet, it's as time consuming as you want it to be. But due to the setup, you can basically pick which night each week you want to deal with it and leave it at that. I really dig that part.

do you think someone could participate in multiple leagues simialir to this?

Absolutely. We have GMs who are in other leagues as well, plus we even have a few that have unaffiliated teams in both the major and minor THL leagues.

If you're interested in giving it a shot, we'd love to have you. Unless my brother's filled them, there are a couple spots open right now... beyond that we'll just do the waiting list thing which means next thing rolls around, it's yours.
