thought i'd start a thread to discuss some bowl possibilities....i'm talking Pack here, but everyone can join in. well, maybe not everyone... :D

with carolina (!) winning and FSU losing it was a crazy saturday. if State can beat FSU this weekend, life will be great heading into the maryland game with a chance to tie for 1st in the ACC. for now though, i'm thinking peach or gator for State. the gator is on new years day so that trip is theoretically possible to make w/o missing a Canes game. ;) hmm....

http://www.electrichyena.com/other/redthumb.gif go State! :spin:

Even if State wins out and ties FSU for the ACC title, they wouldn't automatically get the BCS bid b/c there's a tiebreaker system even though State would have won head-to-head ... State needs to be within five spots in the BCS rankings to get the bowl bid, otherwise it would go to FSU. I can see Amato flipping his lid if this scenario developed and went against State.

I want the Pack to get a bowl bid but please NO Peach Bowl....they have played there so many times....how are out the Orange or Sugar?? ;) Seriously, the Gator wouldn't be bad depending on who they might play...treated us good last year!! :spin:

N.C. State Settles for Tangerine Bowl Invite
Nov 25, 2003

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina State will play in the Tangerine Bowl for the second time in three seasons.

No opponent has been picked to face the Wolfpack (7-5, 4-4 ACC), bowl spokesman Joe Galbraith said Tuesday.

The selection came after the Gator Bowl took Maryland as its Atlantic Coast Conference team, and the Peach Bowl chose Clemson.

The Tangerine Bowl, in Orlando, Fla., on Dec. 22, had the next choice among ACC-affiliated bowls.

N.C. State lost to Pittsburgh 34-19 in the 2001 Tangerine Bowl.

Heard that a long shot opponent could be Nebraska.. They aren't quite the team they were but it would still be cool to play them.. and BEAT them.. :spin:

i really hope whoever plays maryland kicks their butts so bad that they cry, i hate that whole school, bball, football, everything, they are such punks. you would never see phillip rivers or jericho cotchery do anything like that, but its over now.
too bad they got rejected for the peach bowl and they chose clemson over state, but the tangerine is better than the continental tire bowl.
GO PACK!!!

depends on how you look at it, i guess. i'd rather be in the Tire because we'd fill up the stadium. http://www.electrichyena.com/other/redthumb.gif i think they both pay out the same, right? the Tang is at the worst frickin possible time. any other bowl and i would have maybe been able to make the trip....

i don't even wanna talk about that maryland game. it was disgusting in just about every aspect.

I swear, some day someone will drop that crystal football on top of the Sears Trophy. With all of that sweat and those tears, it's bound to happen. It gets passed around so much I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet.

Saban staying at LSU
Richest coaching contract in NCAA history trumps Bears' offer
Posted: Saturday January 10, 2004 5:52PM
By Peter King, SI.com

Nick Saban spurned the Chicago Bears Saturday afternoon, deciding to stay as coach of LSU for a chance to win a second national championship in 2004.

Saban chose the LSU job -- where he won the Bowl Championship Series title with a 21-14 victory over Oklahoma on Jan. 4 -- over an offer from the Bears that wasn't good enough to make him leave.

Although some details with LSU remain to be ironed out, Saban will agree to the richest contract ever given a college football coach. The deal will be for between six and eight years, at approximately $2.75 million per year, according to a source with knowledge of the negotiations between LSU and Saban's agent, Jimmy Sexton.

Saban decided to announce he was staying at LSU before the deal was done for a couple of reasons. One, he couldn't afford further damage to his recruiting class, which is slated to be one of the best in the nation come Signing Day in February. Two, he came to the realization that the Bears likely wouldn't up the ante to the ballpark of what a marquee coach deserves to make in the NFL today, about $4-4.5 million a year.

Saban had a 5 p.m. CT press conference scheduled in Baton Rouge, La., to announce his decision to stay.

Thanks for posting that Shell.

They made a big deal on the Sugar Bowl telecast that when Saban signed his last contract with LSU, that he had a clause that stated if he won a Nat'l Championship they would pay him $1 more than they current highest paid NCAA coach -- who happened to be just across the field coaching Oklahoma.

I know they love, love, love him down there. :)

I am glad he is staying.. college colleges are never happy when they make the cross-over to pro football....
