That Jason Wiemer deal has caught my attention. This could be a quality pick up for some team at a good price. Just my 2¢.

Wiemer's days as an Islanders over

The New York Islanders say forward Jason Wiemer will likely be traded or placed on waivers, possibly as early as today.
The 27 year old, who has a goal and three assists this season, has been told to stay away from practice. He did not make the trip to Philadelphia for Tuesday's game against the Flyers (Live on TSN, 7:30pm et/4:30pm pt).
The Islanders have dennied that Wiemer is part of a salary dump as the team looks to trim its $43-million payroll. He is scheduled to make $1.6-million this season but the emergence of youngsters Trent Hunter and Sean Bergenheim have made his contract expendable.
"I told (Jason) it's strictly business," GM Mike Milbury tells the New York Daily News. "The guys who are pushing him on the back end for ice time, they make less money."
Forwards Mark Parrish and Dave Scatchard, who is currently injured, are also rumored to be on the financial chopping block.
Weimer's agent, Don Meehan, has been given permission to talk with other teams and the Dallas Stars have been mentioned as possible destination. The Stars have a policy of not commenting on potential trades.

Canadian Press

SAINT PAUL, Minn. (CP) - The Minnesota Wild have claimed centre Jason Wiemer off waivers from the New York Islanders.
The 27-year-old Wiemer from Kimberley, B.C., had a goal and three assists in 13 games with the Islanders this season.
The six-foot-one, 225-pound forward played in 81 games for the Isles last season and had nine goals and 19 assists and ranked second on the team in penalty minutes with 116.
Wiemer has played 615 career NHL games with Tampa Bay, Calgary, Florida and the Islanders. He was a first-round pick (eighth overall) by Tampa Bay in 1994.

Hawks, Islanders set to deal

The Chicago Blackhawks and New York Islanders are still talking about a potential trade, despite the fact center Jason Wiemer was claimed on waivers this past week.
Blackhawks general manager Bob Pulford says Wiemer was part of a "bigger deal" the two teams have been cooking up, but it hinged on Wiemer clearing waivers. He never did as the Minnesota Wild put in a claim for him earlier this week.
Still, Pulford says the two sides are still talking.
It's believed the Islanders are looking to dump some salaries with defenceman Eric Cairns and forward Mark Parrish mentioned as the next likely candidates. Parrish will earn $2.35-million this season while Cairns will take home $900,000.
One source tells the Daily Herald that Chicago has expressed interest in one of the Islanders' top defencemen, either Janne Niinimaa or Roman Hamerlik. Islanders GM Mike Milbury is said to be lukewarm about dealing either of them at this point.
Pulford also poured cold water on speculation Chicago is interested in acquiring disgruntled Edmonton center Mike Comrie.
"(That) is the one position we feel we're not bad in," remarked Pulford.
