I saw last night that the Stars waived Manny Malhotra when they got Jere Lehtinen off of IR. I know Malhotra was a high draft pick who has not performed well in the NHL so far. Would he be a good pickup for the 'Canes? I'm not sure of his contract, so that may make it prohibitive.

Please feel free to move to Other Hockey if needed....

I don't think the canes really need him. Although with 8 defensemen on the team, we've still be shallow a couple times on defense now. But i'm sure he'll be picked up by sombody....

I don't see any point in picking him up. he hasn't done jack in this league, and we have some centers already.
he makes just over a million though, so if someone wants to take a shot on someone with a fairly large upside, that just hasn't performed yet... that salary won't scare too many folks off.

hes very good definsively, but never lived up to the expectations pinned on him by the Rangers

I dont think hed be a good pickup for anyone, 1 mil is too much for a 4th liner

I was reading about them waiving him, when they got the other guy back and then for some reason associated our large group of centers and defensement as a mass blunder in my mind....

Malhotra is one of those players who i have heard rumors about coming here a couple times in the past.

Other players who i have heard similar multiple rumors about include Kevin Weekes, Radim Vrbata, Jan Hlavac, and Pavel Brendl.

Let him be slack for the Laffs--long as he's not being slack for us, I don't care.
