Hello! I'm from Sweden and has been a HUGE fan of this team since 1987 (when they used to be called the Whalers!). I've played hockey for more than ten years, and was for a very brief time teammates with Mikael Tellqvist of Toronto Maple Leafs (I was also a goali, although only his' backup)! He's a really nice person, so even though I HATE the Leafs I always cheer for them a tiny little bit as soon as he's on the ice (hasn't happened too many times, but who knows what the future holds?). Anyway, I was at a training camp in a small town in Sweden called Leksand (they have a team in the Swedish Elit League and hockey is religion in that part of Sweden), and Ulf Samuelsson was there visiting the training camp - he was then a member of the Whalers! So I got his' autograph and all that and meeting him in person, finding him a really nice and positive rolemodel I started supporting his' team. It wasn't til I first saw The Whalers play on TV for the first time and noticed how extremely cool thier goalie-tandem was (Peter Sidorkiewicz, the first NHL player from Poland, and Frank Pietrangelo) that I REALLY became a HUGE fan! Needles to say both Sidorkiewicz and Pietrangelo stunk, but I took them and the whole greenclad team to my heart (and let follow the players to Raleigh!)... That's me!

I'll be the first to welcome you. My husband is of Swedish descent (from the island of Gottland) and we visited your beautiful country in late spring of '99.

'Välkommen' is spelled just the way you spelled it! I'm at work right now (for most of you it's probably in the middle of the night, but with the difference in time zones and all it's soon to be lunch time for me), but I'll write something as soon as I get home...
BTW, with all the rumours circulating about eventual trades, who do you reckon JR will trade? Hope they keep Bayda - he playes with his heart!

hmm.. last time I checked (while I was walking out to our car and tripped over a a half-lifeless body stinking of cheese), it was you who live in our driveway. so unless you had an operation recently, I'd say your above statement is a tad off the mark.
