This is for real.

Can we really be sure?

I'm glad. Doherty is an ok coach but he isn't cut out for the Heels. Even though I hate Carolina with a passion I have to hope they get Roy Williams after he wins the championship this year. Carolina could be very good in a few years with the maturity of a few freshmen/sophomores.

Two things

First , I cannot see Roy Williams coming to NC thie year either. One thing Roy has is character and the way Dick Baddour has handled Doh shows a complete lack of character.

Second, I hate Carolina but I do feel sorry for Doherty. This is a very bad precedent being set when a few whiny freshmen who don't like his coaching style have the way on whether the coach gets fired or not, and believe me this is what it boiled down to. May and McCants said they would transfer if Doh stayed. Whiny bunch of brats!!!!!!

Very curious about this...Doherty always looked like he was very caring and patient with his players...but that was said to be the main problem..bad communication... hmmmmmmmm!!???

I can say as a Pack fan...I DO NOT want Roy Williams here...can we all say...another Dean Smith era??????????????

I saw a few of McCants comments after the announcement. I was stunned with his lack of tact.

Guess it's a good think I don't like Carolina basketball, because the whole ordeal would be upsetting as a fan I'm sure.

Oh, you just don't like the fact that my Heels have two more national titles than your beloved Wuffies... :p  :vamp: ;)

In all honesty, I've been losing my enthusiasm for college basketball in general...I just support UNC because my family went there and named me after it. But, as much as I pull for my Heels, I'll admit that last night was truly a catastrophe. Baddour and the chancellor really sounded like babbling country bumpkins, and Andy Kats was truly right on about Baddour should take some of the blame and what a load of crock Doherty "resigning" was. The cherry on top was McCants' crap comments...further proof of why I am truly starting to hate basketball, both college and professional. It's becoming nothing but a showboat for brats who think they're simply all that and can have anything they want. And you know it's getting bad when high school hoops are getting national coverage...remember LeBron James?

I have always loved college basketball myself, but it does seem like the almighty dollar is taking over...the best ones never even try to stay and get their degree...some never even make it to college...just grab the dough and go straight to NBA..coughKobiecough....and then there are the gifted players that make every play a "showboat" play and make the whole team look bad..

I love the concept of...let's win cause it means something...I know the Canes are wealthy guys..but I truly believe that winning is the most important thing to them...the looks on their faces during the playoffs and the good times this year...tell me that! :spin:

Exactamundo Mona. I have never been a professional sports fan until I got into the Canes last season thanks to their playoff run. I love a sport where every goal means something to the person who scored it and the person/people who assisted on it. I love a sport where you can see and feel the emotion/s of the players, be it during a regular game, or the playoffs. I love a sport where a good number of the guys prove that they are every bit as likable off the ice, court, field, etc. as they are on. Name me a professional sport other than hockey that fits those qualities...tricky, isn't it? You certainly don't hear about those qualities in basketball. And those qualities are the reasons why I have come to love hockey and the Canes as much as I do.

i love how tarheel fans count the 1924 title. they didn't even have a tournament back then.

baddour never should have hired doh in the first place. he has to take some of the blame. i don't think doh is a bad coach, he just needs to figure out how to communicate with his players at least until he's good enough where he can be an a-hole and not worry about it (a la bobby knight). i feel sorry for the dude, actually.

as for roy williams, unfortunately for us state fans, i think he is on his way to chapel hill. too bad for kansas too. i think it's sucky of UNC to not wait until after this weekend before announcing doh's "resignation". hopefully ol' roy won't have too hard a time keeping his team focused on the final four instead of whether or not he's going to be leading them next year.

well, according to ESPN (http://espn.go.com/ncb/news/2003/0414/1538970.html), it's official. Roy is leaving the jayhawks to come home. i must say, i HATE the fact he will be coaching a rival team. but...he is a helluva coach and a class guy, and i'm glad to have him in the ACC.

They said on 850 that the Charlotte Observer and a Kansas newspaper are already reporting that Roy is coming to Carolina too. Carolina is holding a press conference tonight (at 9 I think) to, we assume, make the official announcement. Damn it Roy! I was SO hoping you'd say no!

Lesse....Prossler, Coach K, Willyams (NC), Willyams(MD), the new guy in Clemson...Herb Sendek seems outclassed.

But I'm not bashing Herb, of course. Herb's da man.

The entire ACC needs to watch out for the Heels now. They're a very young team...chock full of talent. With some health and luck, combined with Williams' superior coaching, UNC will win the ACC title within the next 3 years. You heard it here first.
