Not quite suer what to make of this but I just found it on the Canes web site and thought some of you might find it of interest:

KEN LEHNER RESIGNS AS HURRICANES VICE PRESIDENT OF MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS
KEN PRESTON
Lehner to join Tampa Bay as Sr. Vice President of Marketing and Branding

RALEIGH, N.C. (Dec. 9, 2003) – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that Ken Lehner, Vice President of Marketing Communications, has issued his resignation from the team. Lehner will join the Tampa Bay Lightning and their Arena Football League affiliate Tampa Bay Storm as Senior Vice President for Marketing and Branding.

“Ken has done an outstanding job during the past five years and been a valuable asset to the Hurricanes’ growth and success,” said Rutherford. “We wish him well in his new position with Tampa Bay.”

Lehner joined the Hurricanes in September 1998 and has been responsible for the team’s marketing campaigns, fan development, CanesVision, the formation of Gale Force Media and the increase in Hurricanes television broadcasts from 40 to 69 games per season. Lehner helped create the Hurricanes Radio Network with affiliate stations throughout North Carolina, promoted and developed usage for the term “Caniac” and was an instrumental part in the Hurricanes and the Triangle securing the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to work for Mr. (Peter) Karmanos, who is one of the most passionate owners in the NHL” said Lehner, “Under the leadership of Jim Rutherford and Jason Karmanos, plus the growing number of Caniacs in the Carolinas, the organization has poised itself for long-term success. I look forward to watching them build upon the achievements that we have enjoyed over the past five years.”

Before joining the Hurricanes, Lehner spent six seasons working in Major League Baseball. He spent one season with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays as the Director of Travel and five seasons with the Florida Marlins as the Director of Spring Training Operations. Lehner started his career with Rich Baseball Operations in Buffalo, N.Y., holding the position of Baseball Operations Manager from 1983-92. In 1992, Lehner accepted position of Director of Spring Training Operations with the Marlins. He accepted additional duties in 1994 when he was named the General Manager of the Brevard County Manatees. The Manatees led the Florida State League in attendance for four years, and Lehner was named the Florida State League Executive of the Year in 1997.

Send in an application, Aaryn! Then you could look at 'em yourself! :spin:

One could only hope your designs are looked at...we need a 3rd!

Heh Aaryn, are you some kind of professional designer or just a creative fan? Just wondering because I would like to see what you have in mind for a 3rd jersey someday. A hurricane is somewhat of a challanging art concept for a logo to begin with.

There are 4 pages of ideas here, including pics of Aaryn's designs:

Ahem, you think I'm a tad "excitable" on this topic Gene ;)?

Aaryn

BTW, thanks for the promo Shell. Yes, SCCaniac, I am BOTH a professional designer and a creative fan.

OK, well, as of 6:30 am this morning, at the behest of many of my friends here, my resume is on its way to the Hurricanes. My nearly 10 years experience in marketing, design, print and sales will hopefully help, but I think it's still a long shot. Stay tuned.

I looked at what you got. Nice stuff. I liked the the one posted on the forum with the gradient (like Canuck's 3rd) best. As it happens I too am a professional graphic designer. Good luck. If you need any help when yo land the job you know where to find me. On second thought, perhaps I will throw my hat in the ring.

Dude, I'd make that optional--THN has nothing better to do with their time than bash the 'Canes every time they talk about them, and I don't care to have that drek in my mailbox (lord knows I get enough of it online and every time I see mention of us on ESPN).

If I were a STH and found THN forced on me, I'd turn in my tickets.

Fair enough. I'd settle for any publication that covers the whole sport reasonably well. (including minor leagues) Heck, even the Eric Staal signed yearbook used as incentive to get people to buy a 3-game holiday pack would be ok....since we are talking about marketing.

And for the last couple of seasons, the mainstream hockey media has basically bashed the Canes because they aren't a very good team. Sure - we all know they like to make us whipping boys in print and over the waves, but winning fixes that eventually. :-)

According to the N&O, they are not going to be replacing Ken any time soon probably due to the uncertainty of the CBA and whether or not there will be any hockey to promote next year.

Maybe your resume will wow them Aaryn and they'll change their minds. They need somebody with good PR/Marketing ideas on board.

Aren't most of the articles on the Canes in THN written by Luke DeCock?

If you want a good idea for the Canes possible Jersey's

NHL games since they hit the pc have drawn much attention to our jersey's by people who hate us all red, NHL 2002-2004 each have a randition of a black jersey

nhl-depot.net
cyber-nhl.net

(im not sure on the 2nd one)

Thiers tons of redone pads for the game, tons of different jersey's people have created for the game if anyones bored :P

One article does nothing to change my opinion of THN. I mean, even a blind pig will find an acorn every now and then. (I know that sounds snarky, but I'm really not intending it that way)

s'ok, I wasn't really trying to defend them, I don't read their publication. I just read that article because I got a news alert that someone mentioned Coach Mo  For all I know that could be the only positive article out of a million.
