RALEIGH, N.C. – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the team has reassigned left wing Mike Watt to Lowell of the American Hockey League. Watt was recalled to Lowell on Monday and skated 7:36 in Carolina’s game against Montreal.
Watt (6’ 2’’, 212 lbs.) was signed as a free agent by Carolina in the 2002 offseason. The Seaforth, Ont., native appeared in his fourth game with the Hurricanes on Monday and has played 156 NHL games with Edmonton, New York Islanders, Nashville and Carolina, scoring 41 points (15g, 26a) and accumulating 45 penalty minutes. Watt, 26, has nine goals and 14 assists (23 points) in 61 games with Lowell this season. He was selected by Edmonton in the second round, 32nd overall, in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
The Hurricanes begin a two-game road trip on Wednesday at Pittsburgh before traveling to Florida to face the Panthers on Friday. Carolina will conclude the 2002-03 season against the New York Islanders on Sunday at the RBC Center in a 3 p.m. matinee. Tickets for the Hurricanes’ final home game of the season are available via the team’s official website, CarolinaHurricanes.com, the Dodge Box Office at RBC Center or by calling 919-834-4000.

I guess since Jan and Pavel are ready to come back ...they had no choice..

Oh for Christ's sake!!! Guess it's official....we in fact can NOT play a game without injuring someone. They may be recruiting fans to fill in by Sunday.

Is Brendl really coming back for 3 meaningless games? I say we let Pete get at him in training camp, then put him back on the ice and see what he's got.

I can't believe that Watt broke fingers..at this point, if I was in Lowell and they called me down...I would run....in the opposite direction!! :crazy: :eek:

Uh-Oh...Battaglio's had talked to him the other night after the Habs game while he was signing a Lowell card for her. She asked if he'd be back in Raleigh on Sunday, and he held up his taped-up left hand and said that he'd broken a finger, so he didn't think he'd be back.
But if he's being recalled, then perhaps he had x-rays and they came back negative.
