Well, we're over one-third of the way through the season. Who do you think has been the best player so far this year?
Kovalchuk, most certainly. Though Datsyuk is a very close second. I'd say both have been invaluable to their teams this year : Kovalchuk in the absence of Heatley; Datsyuk with all the team injuries.

I voted for Marty. I mean man... 7 SO's already? dude is pullin out all the stops so far this year. eeeeeasily the top goalie in the league right now.
If I were to pick a skater, I'd say Datsyuk. 6 goals 4 assists in his last 4 games. and that's pretty much how his season has gone. absolutely on-fire. bummed that I only got him in one of my fantasy leagues. but, I have brodeur in 2, so that helps to ease the pain :)

I would kill for Brodeur on my fantasy team...
7 SO's pretty much sums it up. He is a maniac. Datsyuk in second IMO.

Brodeur has really shown that he is the premiere goalie in the league today. He has played in nearly every game....and has hardly waivered. He will win the Vezina again this year...
Had the Devils had anybody else, they would not have as many points in the standings.

Brodeur gets my vote as well. He's ALWAYS one of the best players in the league, IMO.

Besides the fact that Kovalchuk has to be the Thrasher with the big Bull's-Eye on him every night. He'll be the guy matched up against Holik and Stevens, or other team's top checking forwards and defensemen. Datsyuk is earning that reputation, but in Detroit there are so many other weapons (Yzerman, Shanahan, Hull) that Datsyuk has been able to find himself with more open ice. That Kovalchuk has been able to snipe so many goals this year, with goal-scoring at such a premium in general, speaks volumes to his play.
Plus, he doesn't have Lidstrom, Yzerman, or Hull drawing away the D and feeding him a perfect pass. Put just about anybody on a line with Hull and they'll rack up the points, the man is a goal machine. Datsyuk is becoming an elite player, but Kovalchuk has been the best skater this year so far.

That's about 1/3 of all of the Jackets' goals...Columbus is stinking it up this year, but at least they'll have a 50 goal scorer...
