Subject : Blades End Season With 3-2 Wild Card Loss

ESTERO, FL – The Florida Everblades were upended by the Greenville Grrrowl 3-2 in the Southeast Divisional Wild Card game in front of 4,011 at TECO Arena on Tuesday night. Greenville forward Peter Flache scored two goals in the victory to advance the Grrrowl into the Southeast Divisional semi-finals against the Columbia Inferno. The Everblades got on the board first on the power play after Brent McDonald snuck a shot past Greenville netminder Michael Garnett at the 17:41 mark of the first period. Forwards Laurent Meunier and Tom Buckley registered the helpers on McDonald’s first tally of the post season. In the second period the Grrrowl took a 2-1 lead on a pair of goals from forward Peter Flache. In the third period, Florida evened the score 3-3 when Laurent Meunier flipped in his own rebound at the 2:26 mark of the period. Defenseman Brian Goudie registered the lone assist on Meunier’s first goal of the playoffs. However, the Grrrowl reclaimed the lead for good after right wing Mike Henderson tucked in a rebound at the 3:51 mark of the period to make it 3-2. Florida goaltender Brian Leitza (0-1) stopped 30 of 33 shots he faced while Greenville netminder Michael Garnett (1-0) stopped 42 of 44 shots he faced. There was a little bit of controversy involving the Florida Everblades a bit ago. They went from first in their division to holding the last playoff spot in just a few weeks with absolutely dismal performances in several games. Their head guy held a press conference and said that he would trade 90% of them if he could, that all they did was party and didn't seem to give a damn about playing hockey lately......

I'm still a bit bitter about the Charlotte Checkers. They went on a magnificent late season run that put them in 2nd place in their division (the top four teams in each division go to the playoffs). All they had to do was win or tie one of their last two games and they would make the playoffs. As luck would have it they were scored on in the final minutes by the Greensboro Generals to lose 4-3 and then were blown out in their final game.... What rotten luck!!

How's Greensboro doing?

Did a lot of Blades players get called up to Lowell when we started stealing all the Lowell boys? Wonder if that hurt their play-off chances at all.

I'm thinking that may have been part of it SHC. I used to go by the Everblades website a couple times a month and for a bit there a page where the manager of the team had spoken to the booster club or something about how he was sorry about the callups but that the Carolina Hurricanes team has been plagued with injuries.... The text of that might still be up there.

Then, after several callups, perhaps the players there stopped caring.

Lowell did call up a decent amount of players a few weeks ago, but they returned them all, except for Battaglia so they could work as "one" and not be out of synch with different players.
I guess it is really a dissapointing year for the Carolina orginization.
