Figured I'd start something here, since the State conversations spilled over on other threads ... want to congratulate the team on their game last night vs. BYU, a very good team with an NBA-calibur center.
State has never been deeper under Herb and hasn't had a player as good as Jules since Googs, maybe longer.

It is the year of the Herb!
Very strong game last night. f BYU is as good as it's record, that's a good win for the Pack. Bring on the ACC!

That was a great game last night!!!! I was so happy for the team and that little guy (sorry I don't know his name) but that 3 pointer was great!!!!! Plus he was knock down and went to the line and made the extra point. Way to go NC STATE :D

Twas a great win indeed...one of only two, maybe three (If Dook and State meet in the ACC Tourney) times I'll cheer for State. :D ;) Congrats Pack for finally getting a "1" in the right column of Dook's ACC record. :spin:

Although I am a diehard Duke fan, I must say congrats to the Pack for last night's win. They simply wanted it more than the Blue Devils. Here is hoping that Duke can learn from this and go on another long winning streak. I hope the pack plays a long time into March and I hope my Blue Devils play into April.

I'm sure if State doesn't make the Sweet 16, all the anti-Herbites will be back on his back.
Great job by the team and coaches ... should been a 15-point win, if not for the 10-15 point cushion the officials give to the Dukies each night.

Ah my friend, jealousy is a very unbecoming trait. You have every right to enjoy your win over the Blue Devils but to claim that State should have won by 15 except for the officials is asinine. At no time during Sendek's reign has the Wolfpack ever been 15 points better tthan the Blue Devils. Hell, Duke even spotted State a 22 point lead in the ACC final which the Pack couldn't hold. State won that game last night, imho, because of the RBC Center crowd(which was fantastic by the way) Don't make comments like that especially when it was Krzyzewski who defended Sendek all week.

Eh, I was right there and Deng was walking like crazy all night. That's not worth 10 points, granted, but the officials were at their typical ACC worst. Also, the clock never started moving on the possession that Duke started with 1:10 to go, and as they held the ball for 10-15 seconds, the last State turnover never should've happened anyway.
Your ACC Champions: NC State Wolfpack. You heard it here first.

Ok, I should not get involved, but as a mostly unbiased fan (go Vandy!), Duke got tons of breaks from the officials. Coack K works officials mercilessly and always gets the close calls. There were at least three uncalled traveling calls that should have gone against Duke. That said, I honestly thought State was going to choke at the end. I'm glad they didn't though!

Go back to China, Deng!
Ahem.
As I said before, it is the year of the Herb. Last night saw two mistake-riddled teams head out onto the court. Duke was certainly off their game....but the Wolfpack team that I saw has certainly been better. Too many mistakes. Too many turnovers, too many lost balls, too many bad passes. Wolfpack fans everywhere need to feel lucky that this game didn't go the opposite direction. Given the way State played, it could have been very ugly if Duke was on their game.

First off, Deng is from the Sudan by way of London and New Jersey. He had a brother who played for UConn. Secondly, while I will admit that Deng did travel on more than one occasion, I will also humbly submit that Evtimov lowered his shoulder into Shelden Williams on more than one occasion that I can remember. The best statement was the officiating at its ACC worst. Exhibit A How does Carolina shoot 52 free throws to Maryland's 25 in their game earlier in the day.
As for the NCSU ACC Champions claim, if you face Duke again it will not be in the friendly confines of the RBC Center and we all have seen what happens to the Pack when they play on a neutral court or on the road.
Good Luck to all ACC fans except for Tarheel fans.

And poo on you JD... :p ;)
But seriously, we'll have to agree to disagree about the favoritism in ACC hoops officiating. Dook definitely gets it. But then again, maybe we do agree...as an UNC fan, I'm not afraid to admit that we get it too sometimes. Not sure I could use yesterday's game against Maryland as an example though, because Maryland played a VERY AGGRESSIVE brand of basketball. Some of the dunks, charges, etc. had to be the most "in your face" I've seen all season. Not to mention all the bodies tumbling to the floor...one foul committed by the Terps' Caner-Medley left two or three bodies down in its wake. I know such comments sound rather "weenie-ish", but Maryland played quite, possibly too physical a game. The only other opponent who played like Maryland did this season was Georgia Tech when the Heels blew them out at the Dean Dome...a little hazy about the foul situation in that game, but I seem to recall Tech having more fouls. And admittingly, a few bad calls going their way...
Your ACC Champions: NC State Wolfpack. You heard it here first.
And I agree...if Dook can get a few more losses in the "L" column, State might be a lock for ACC Champs. And they deserve to be a lock...I personally feel the Pack are a better team than Dook, and a MUCH BETTER team than my Heels. As much as I like the light blue ones, they don't deserve to be ACC Champs if they cannot beat Clemson, the weakest team in the entire conference; AND lose 20-25 point leads like they did to Florida State in Tallahassee and Maryland yesterday.
So as long as they're not against my Heels, go Pack. They got a great shot at being the first team to win the ACC other than Dook in sometime.

I watched this game (on TV) and never noticed Cole on TV.
Many of the Carolina Hurricanes were at the RBC Center on Sunday when N.C. State upset top-ranked Duke.
None was as conspicuous as Erik Cole, who sat right behind Herb Sendek and the N.C. State bench.
Cole, who went to Clarkson University and got the tickets from a friend, wasn't declaring any allegiances Monday.
"I'm not saying anything," Cole said before the Canes took on the Florida Panthers at the RBC Center. "I'm glad I went to my first game and it was great to see."

They only showed him once (very briefly) and the announcers did not comment on him being there. Our church's priest, Father Dan is the chaplain, so I'm used to looking for him. Erik Cole was siting toward the middle of the bench.

I'm not a huge State fan, just an ACC hoops fan. So this isn't "my win." State definitely dominated this game. This was not a crowd thing. Duke has enough experience and a good enough coach to not be shaken by those things. If they did get shaken by that sort of thing, they woulda packed it in when they were down 9-0 to start the game. And if you truly believe that the crowd did take them out of the game, then I'd have to say Duke has no shot in the NCAA tourney b/c every tourney crowd turns on the No. 1's when it's a close game.
I'd have to say you're the one being asinine. Duke ALWAYS gets beneficial calls, just like UNC did back in the Dean Smith era. In a way, it's deserved, but to deny it is unfathomable. That Atsur foul at the end was the perfect example. Redick didn't even get touched and he gets three foul shots. If EVERY call doesn't go Coach K's way, he barks and whines until some go his way. In case you haven't noticed, he does the same thing with the media. So I think it's time to check your Duke blues at the door and take a real look at the game and the situation.

Will Roach is the guy that needs to get into games...
I remember that as a freshman at the end of one game he had some awesome between the legs/circus passes that really brought the crowd to its feet. Sure, it was the end of the game, and they were winning big, but maybe the guy has potential!
He's the Brian Keeter of new-age Wolfpack basketball.

Will Roach also scored the 100th point last year in the Wolfpack's win over NC A&T. The thing about Chris McCoy is that he is big and can hit the three. The ones he's missed this year have been painfully close misses. Adam Simons is a bit suspect, but he did have that dunk against BYU (it might have been UNC-W, or even someone else...we won big). Hodge jumped three feet in the air and was cheering his butt off when Simons got that dunk.

State choked. I love 'em, but that last 15 seconds was as big a choke fest as it gets in big time college ball. The intentional foul that wasn't didn't help, but they still had a very good chance and couldn't hold it together.
