I'm going to go ahead and make my call.

Brendl gets the call on the 12th. (or the 11th, so he has 3 full days before the next game).

Last year I believe Heerema was chosen for the all-star game, but didn't get to go because he was here. I suppose if it were an off-day and compatable with the schedule, Brendl could go.

Turns out that it is. The 'Canes are off from 2-4 to 2-12. Both the AHL and the NHL All-Star games are on the same day. If the team wanted to be nice, they could send him back down just before the all-star game, I suppose.
That is, if he's here.

That is, if he's here.

Yeah, I mean now that we have scoring machine Kevyn Adams I'm not so sure Brendl is necessary!

PlanetUSA stars shine in skills event
Ryan Miller of the Rochester Americans was named the top goaltender, helping PlanetUSA beat Canada, 18-9, in the AHL All-Star Skills Competition.
Staff and news service report

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Eric Perrin and the rest of his Canadian teammates saw a two-year run end at the AHL All-Star Classic Skills Competition Sunday night.

The PlanetUSA AHL All-Stars snapped an early tie and cruised to an 18-9 victory over Canada in the annual skills event at Van Andel Arena.

Perrin, the lone Hershey Bears’ representative, participated in two events. Mike Zigomanis (Lowell Lock Monsters), Terry Virtue (Worcester IceCats) and Perrin scored two goals on three shots against Rochester Americans goaltender Ryan Miller in the Pass and Score competition.

Zigomanis fired home both goals during the three-on-none rushes.

Perrin also took part in the breakaway relay, but he failed to score when the puck rolled off his stick as Springfield Falcons rookie goalie David LeNeveu tried a poke check.

Hershey’s leading scorer, Perrin will start at center for Canada in tonight’s AHL All-Star Game at 7 p.m. The Canadians have won the last four games in the series with PlanetUSA.

PlanetUSA’s Noah Clarke (Manchester Monarchs) won the fastest skater event by turning a one-lap time of 14.042 seconds.

The skating competition was marred by an injury to hometown hero Nathan Robinson.

The Grand Rapids Griffins’ leading scorer pulled a groin muscle during his lap and fell hard to the ice. He couldn’t get up on his own and was helped to the dressing room by several teammates.

Robinson will be examined by doctors again today to determine the severity of his injury and how much action he could miss for the West Division leaders.

In other events, PlanetUSA rookie Anton Babchuk (Norfolk Admirals) won the fastest shot competition with a blast clocked at 96.6 mph. Canada’s Benoit Gratton (Hamilton Bulldogs) won the accuracy shooting event by hitting four targets in six shots.

Miller was named the top goalie based on a save percentage of .880 in three netminder events, stopping 22 of 25 shots. The Michigan State product went a perfect 10 for 10 in the rapid fire event and turned back 11 of 12 shots in the breakaway relay.

A Michigan native, Miller edged out LeNeveu (.789) and Rastislav Stana of the Portland Pirates (.750) for top goalie honors.

For those that might not have watched, they pretty much gushed over Ziggy the whole night.

He apparently was the "star" during the Super Skills (along with Ryan Miller) and had the best breakaway goal of the night (it was a sweet one) and the only person to score on Miller.

They interviewed him at the 1st intermission and he was smiling from ear to ear. They talked about how 5 Lockmonsters scored in their first NHL game ever with the Canes (his against Sean Burke).

He got a lot of face time. Great job for our fill in for Brendl. :D

from murda:

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Mike Zigomanis scored a goal and handed out a pair of assists in the second period to help the Canadian All-Stars defeat Planet USA, 9-5, in the 2004 AHL All-Star Game.

Zigomanis, a member of the Lowell Lock Monsters, staked the Canadian All-Stars to a 6-3 lead with 5:17 remaining in the middle period.

Seventh in the league with 43 points, Zigomanis assisted on goals by Cincinnati's Chris Kunitz and Hartford's Chad Wiseman as the Canadian All-Stars scored five times in the second period to take a 7-3 advantage into the third.

In front of a crowd of 9,220, Zigomanis was named the game's Most Valuable Player.

Kyle Wanvig of the Houston Aeros beat Rochester goalie Ryan Miller on a spectacular breakaway goal early in the second period to give the Canadian All-Stars the lead for good at 3-2.

Binghamton's Ray Emery stopped 22 of 25 shots to earn the win for the Canadian All-Stars, who have not fallen to Planet USA since a 5-4 shootout loss in 1998-99.

Aaron Johnson of the Syracuse Crunch registered a pair of goals and Hamilton's Benoit Gratton, who dished out a pair of assists in the second period, capped the scoring with 2:05 left in regulation for the Canadian All-Stars.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's Matt Murley scored twice and dished out an assist to lead Planet USA, which outshot the Canadian All-Stars 21-11 in the third period.

Pavel Rosa of the Manchester Monarchs scored on a 2-on-1 late in the first period for Planet USA to tie the score at 2-2.

Jeff Hamilton, a member of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, added a goal and two assists in the loss for Planet USA.

Springfield's David LeNeveu allowed five goals on 21 shots to take the loss for Planet USA. LeNeveu, who is in his rookie season, was a member of the Canadian team, but he switched sides after Portland goalie Rastislav Stana suffered an injury Sunday.

Oh yea someones getting something done somewhere :P
