Man, Panthers need to settle down.. they apparently feel the need to make up for their 0 penalties last week. Glad they got a TD but boy was it ugly lol

Time to watch this 1st and 35

IMO, the NFL refs in this game have officially eclipsed the worst NHL refs I've ever seen. Ridiculous. There is NO FREAKIN' WAY they were holding on every single down of that run.

I'd like to kick some ref's ass right now. I guess they are trying to make up for the ridiculous luck the Panthers had in getting that touchdown. Problem is, that's NOT THEIR JOB!!!

Nice to see John Fox un-load on the ref.

Kasey out to kick the 45 yard field-goal. Could be worse.....could have been better.

it's amazing that they are in the lead at the half. and in addition to whatever words of wisdom he has for the whole team, I hope Fox has some extra words for Donnally.

Wow! Maybe next game they can try and make it more exciting :eek2:

You have to give it to them, they were not on their game most of the day and they just kept at it. Both sides made some stupid mistakes and both sides got some great breaks, but the Panthers did not give up or give in. You have to love that :spin:

Do you believe?

This team can go all the way. This game is a testament to the fact. That was probably the most exciting game I've ever watched. I'm absolutely stunned.

On to the NFC Championship! Woot!

OMG...With all the sacks, I was getting ready to write them off and turn it and then came the pass.......holy moly!! I do feel bad for Torry Holt though...losing the ball ... I back the Pack..what can I say?? But I am thrilled for the Panthers..

Meow. :spin: Even though I picked Philly to beat Green Bay in the LGC pool, I wouldn't mind GB winning (Sorry Guyute). Don't the Panthers get home advantage if the Packers win?

CAROLINA PANTHERS, IN TYPICAL CARDIAC CATS FASHION!!! WHAT A GAME!!!!

Sorry, I'm just a little excited right now. To think, two seasons ago, that was precisely how we lost games...

But man, between Muhammad, Delhomme, Steve Smith, Kasay, 3 interceptions... its hard to pick an MVP for this game!

Either way, GO PANTHERS! NFC Championship game!!!

What he said. I never once gave up on them, so there. I've seen them come back too many times - I do have a defibrillator next to the TV though, just in case. :D

Can you believe -a two point conversion, an onside kick and a field goal all in the final minutes? I spent the overtime on the floor screaming...

I was undecorating our Christmas tree while watching most of the game (damn, this room looks boring now). Well, when the 4th quarter started I sat down to give the game my un-divided attention......and then the Rams started coming back. :eek2: After they got that touchdown and two point conversion I decided that my un-divided attention was jinxing the Panthers so I went back to taking the lights off the tree while I watched. I've never screamed so much while un-decorating a tree in my life.

Problem is, I won't have a tree to un-decorate next week. :D

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith (89) celebrates while scoring on a touchdown pass from Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme during the first play of the second overtime against the St. Louis Rams in the NFC Divisional playoffs in St. Louis Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004. The Panthers defeated the Rams 29-23 in double overtime.

This game was just simply amazing... So many twists and turns, lead changes, boneheaded penalties to yell about, :D, and probably one of the most exciting finishes in sports history. I thought the Panthers season was over multiple times during the game. Particularly with the clock running down in regulation.... I was more scared about a game-winning touchdown than a game-tying field goal with no time left but I'm gled they settled for the tie! The delay of game penalty when we had the game won on the Kasay OT kick was upsetting but it just made for better drama in the end since the Panthers ended up winning anyway. I've got to admit, I thought it was over though when Kasay missed the 45 yarder. I thought the last thing we could do was give the ball to the Rams with good field position given how they had stepped it up towards the end of the game. The Panthers defense did their job and it came time for the Rams to kick what I believe was a 53 yarder. I figured it was over...the guy had made a similar kick earlier!

The camera angle the NFL uses with the field goals just about killed me. I thought the kick was good and the Panthers were eliminated for a good 3 whole seconds. But then I saw the refs arms...unbelievable. I'll also note that I loved how they had the coaches faces displayed while the kick was happining though. John Fox's calm and collected demeanor after the Rams missed kick (calm clapping and what appeared to be a quick "Let's go boys") was in sharp contrast to the Rams' coach's behavior when Kasay missed the 45 yarder (What appeared to be behavior similar to that of a psychotic clown, it seriously looked like he was saying "HEEHEEHEEHEEHEEHAW!!" Just bizarre... :D)

But yeah, after that I thought we had new life. A few unfortunate mistakes later (and some BAD protection of Delhomme, what the heck happened there?) lead to a pissed Delhomme leaving the field, Sauerbrun coming to punt, and all hope tossed out the window again.

Then a good kickoff return about solidified the Panthers loss followed by a couple nice plays. But then, for some reason, a pass play was called when the game was basically theirs. I suppose it for all rights SHOULD have succeeded and been a good call, the ball was in the reciever's hands! But Ricky Manning Jr. made an unbelievable play, seemingly ripping the ball right out of his hands for the interception. It was definitely exciting to see the guys who had been the subject of much criticism by opposing teams and the media really do their job when it counted.

Of course, that lead to what appeared to be an unfortunate three and out for the Panthers, only made interesting by the fact that the game had now crossed over into double OT, something I had never imagined being able to see an NFL playoff game go to. The Panthers problems were added to by the unbelievably loud St. Louis crowd that had seemed to cause the Panthers some troubles early on before they took them out of the game. I should've remembered we had Delhomme back there though... ;) On what, if I remember correctly was 3rd and 14 he made a wonderful throw to Steve Smith, which was quickly turned into an unbelievably happy moment when he broke free and ultimately led to the longest touchdown pass in NFL OT history.

That was an unbelievable game and one that is sure to be a classic. The Panthers defense did a great job against a more experienced (except for quarterback) St. Louis squad who after going to the superbowl 2 of the last 4 years were expecting nothing but success. I bet that loss to the Detroit Lions in the final week really hurts now to St. Louis players. After all, they wouldn't have played the Panthers till the NFC championship if not for that. And then at least they would have won one playoff game before we beat them there.

The one moment that sticks out in my mind that Holt must be kicking himself over was the dropped ball that was a sure touchdown. Wow...., though he seemed to be quite happy about it afterwards (he was obviously not trying to dwell on it), that may have been the difference between winning and losing. Make no mistake though, I think the Panthers deserved to win this game. The penalties are obviously something that needs to change but I thought Delhomme had a great day, further heightened by the double OT touchdown pass, Smith did amazing, and Foster and Goings did unbelievable in Davis' absence. I'm sure they really made him proud. Everyone on the defensive side really did their job as well.

On the other side of the ball, Marshall Faulk did admirably, particularly in the late goings. He really rallied his troops.

This was a game I will always remember. I wish these games didn't have to be so nerve-wrecking, but these ARE the Cardiac cats who made their living this season with these type of wins and I'll take every one.

I can't wait till next Sunday...

I am glad the Cats won on a touchdown like that. What a way to end a
great game. I too thought when Kasay missed that field goal, it was all
over. The Rams went to kick one and I just knew that was going to be it.
Well it wasn't and that saved us.

I am still shaking my head at what a roller coaster this game was. I had
to get on the computer while it was on toward the end, because if I had
completely watched every move, I would of thrown up.

Nice to win games like this. Could of gone either way about a bazillion times.

Mobile QBs usually run all over the Panthers.....case in point, Michael Vick. But I still feel confident that another strong, strong effort can be put up by Delhomme.

Bring 'em on!

Dan Morgan, who is very strong against that, was out for both the Atlanta game and the Philly game earlier in the season when we had some similar problems with Mcnabb. I have hope that we can beat Philly...

Oh, I know we can beat Philly, I just wanted Green Bay to win so I could go with my friend to Ericsson for a Panthers playoff game!

We played one of our weaker games of the season against them in the regular season, and still lost by only 9 points. Yeah, that was the day Kasay lost the memo describing how to kick a field goal.

The Eagles don't have nearly the high-profile recievers that St. Louis had in Tory Holt and Isaac Bruce, and they don't have an RB that could outperform Faulk. This game lies in the hands of Donovan McNabb. Honestly, I think that if we can get quick pressure on him before he has a chance to scramble, we can make him lose confidence and falter.

However, we need to avoid the costly penalties that we faced in the Rams game, and continue the STELLAR defense. You guys realize that the Rams could have had 21 points on their first three scores, but only had 9 because of the Panthers INSANE red-zone defense. That needs to continue.

Even if this turns out to be the end of the road for the Panthers (which I doubt), it is simply amazing how far this team has come in two years.
