This game's currently in progress, Detroit's up 2-0 less than halfway through the first period.... I'm assuming the Islanders really want to prove that they didn't make the wrong decision when they drafted Depietro.....but he just looks bad. Constand wandering, a lucky break for him saved the score from being 3-0 now after wandering way too far out of the net. The Islanders have gotten some good chances but Joseph's been strong while Ricky boy has just struggled.....

I'm beginning to wonder if the 8th playoff spot in the East will ever be decided....

Yashin has scored, but so has Detroit. 3-1 at the 1st intermission...

Here's to hoping the Isles win....make 'em less desperate for 2 points on Sunday.

Well, a powerplay goal late in the second period by Yashin has brought the Islanders within 2.... Going into the third the score is 4-2 Detroit. Unless something strange happens in the third period, I think Detroit is going to take this game. Even if the Islanders lose against Atlanta as well though, the Rangers still have to win their last two games.... It will be interesting to see them take on the Devils...

5-2, final score. Wings over the Isles. Towards the end, DiPietro was starting to come unraveled and got penalized for roughing. He looked REALLY demoralized. :|

The Sunday game against us is the last game of a back to back for the Isles....perhaps they want Garth to be well rested.

neither of their goalies are playing as one would hope during a very important couple of weeks. Garth was benched the other night for poor play, yet Rick isn't doing much better. Having 2 off goalies when the race is this tight is a big problem.

See... you should've taken Archie!! :p

But to rest him on a night they play Detroit? Isn't he their #1 guy?

All they need to make the playoffs is 1 game. Maybe they thought it best to concentrate their firepower on the easier opponent of the two rather than going hot and heavy against the Wings and having to rely on a backup the next night?

Hmmm....good point. I hope they clinch a playoff spot tomorrow against Atlanta.

I think the game to watch is the New York Rangers/Devils game. If the Rangers lose that one, it doesn't matter what the Islanders do, the Rangers are out of it. Those of us that don't care for the Rangers would probably have more fun seeing the Rangers lose to the Devils than the Islanders win against the Thrashers. Even if the Rangers manage to beat the Devils, they'll stiill have to finish off Montreal in order for the Sunday Canes game to matter in the playoff race. Their record against Montreal this season is 0-3. But strangers things have happened and we'll just have to wait and see!

Personally, however, i hope to see the Islanders crash hard. No, i don't particularly want to see the Rangers in the playoffs, but they are the lesser of two evils in this case. IMO.

Thrashers all the way, yo.

I heard some Islanders fans saying that it was a game they were sure to lose, so they just gave DiPietro the start. They seem to think Rick's a slow learner.
