As the 2002-2003 Hockey season comes to a close for the Carolina Hurricanes, I am left with disbelief, sadness, and hope. On Monday night after the game against the Canadians, I stood on "The Deck" of the ESA looking out over the newly zambonied ice. The lights were dim and seats were finally empty. But as I looked down at the ice, it was as if I was taken back in time. To a time when all my worries were gone. When everything was going right. I was taken back to the 2002 Stanley Cup playoffs. And the memories just poured. I could see Erik Cole battling in front of the net and dekeing Scott Stevens, Nicky Wallins shot from the blue line escape CuJo as the Canes tied the series on home ice against the Leafs. I could see the Detroit Red Wings and Carolina Hurricanes standing on the blue line as the PA Announcer (Tony) introduced them. I could hear the roar of the crowd after a Canes goal and hear Ric Flair say, "That's a Carolina Hurricanes goal....WHOOOOOO" **and I distinctly remember Rebecca's screaming after Game 2 of the Devils series. UNFORGETTABLE!!** I also remember going down with Rebecca, Remle, and Jessi to get autographs after every game. But as i stood looking on to the empty ice surface...I realized that there would be only one more game this year. And now I am left to wonder...why? Last spring and summer were some of the greatest moments of my life. A once in a lifetime 2 month odyssey that began with New Jersey in April and ended with Detroit in June. Next year, we will bring home the big silver thing called Stanley! And we all will be once again caught up in Carolina Hurricanes Mayhem! Good Luck Canes!

(takes off her mask and bows before Kenny)

That...was...BEAUTIFUL!! (breaks down into tears for a moment, then pulls herself together)

You deserve something special...how about this?

(pulls out her silver hockey stick and taps Kenny on his shoulders and head)

I dub thee...well, we're all Caniacs, and special ones at that. You just deserved something special and cool for a piece that was both of those. Well said Kenny!

Thank goodness for good memories!!

I work in downtown Raleigh..and today while walking, I looked at all the statues at the State Capitol and it made me so sad to think about the jerseys from last year staying put..because of NO PLAYOFFS!! And the big Hurricane flag flying proudly over the Capitol too... This town was in a tizzy...and I loved it!!

It made us sad...but I know those days will return and soon!! ;)

I heard Chopper on the radio this morning calling Forslund asking him to deliver the eulogy at a funeral for the Canes' season on Monday morning at the RBC.

I just returned from walking again..and thought the same things about the capitol and the statues...and we were reminicing about the party at the Civic Center...what a great day...all of our heroes right before our eyes and they were knowing how much we loved them all...and everytime I think of O in that sweaty, wrinkled shirt, shaking his booty with the band..I have to chuckle!! :D ;)

Next year...we will be partying til June!! I just know it!! :spin: ;)
