Has anyone attended an event at the RBC besides hockey? We went to the Billy Joel/Elton John concert Sunday (which was awesome), but the traffic was horrendous. It was far worse than sold out hockey games have ever been, and I wonder what they did differently. I know there were more people there than would be at even a sold out game because of the seats on the floor, but still...
So if you're going to Bon Jovi Friday (wish I was), go early!

Yesterday, when I was leaving the ACC tourney, I got out quick, and I stayed until the end of the game. Matter of fact, I got home in about the same time, that I have spent in traffice leaving the RBC.

I've never been to anything at the RBC but hockey but I wanted to say that I think the traffic flow at hockey games is amazing! I can't believe how easily I always get in and out....I do come early though. I don't know what they do but it works really, really well!

Yeah, getting in and out of hockey games is easy, which is why it surprised me that the concert traffic situation was so bad. We normally park in the Carter-Finley lot (as we did last night), but the friends who were supposed to meet us at the concert came in on 40 and actually went home because the traffic was so bad (of course they are insane...).

yeah...i noticed the same thing. i was also at the concert last night. i live right off of 40 (exit 291) and normally it takes me 5 minutes to get to the RBC. we left at 6:50 and didn't get inside until after 8:00 because the traffic was so bad.

well, seats on the floor for the avg concert will add about 3000 people. figure on roughly another 1500 cars.. that's a Big difference...

I was going to ask how many seats gets added. Also, I don't know if the concert was sold out, but when the Canes are sold out, it makes a big difference in arrival traffic. If you try to get there "on time" you usually are sweating it out to do it once you get to the arena. We, if we can, always arrive early to avoid all that, but a few times we've gotten hung up when it was unavoidable. NYE was a mess for us, we came in on the new Edwards Mill and ended up at a standstill at the Wade Ave. intersection, not moving for about 15 minutes (since they were focusing on not having Wade back up). We ended up jumping in the left hand lane, getting ON Wade getting off at Blue Ridge and going to Trinity.
Departure never seems to be a big deal, and I'm thankful for that.

you're right... if you plan to get there at like 6:45 or somewhere close to 7 (i.e.- you don't want to hang out, but just get there for the game), unless it's an empty game, you're going to sit in traffic.
I refuse to be late for games... so we normally get there at least 2 hrs early ;) hehe

And did you notice the difference in the people leaving the arena after the concert? At the hockey games, people know where they are going & use the correct exit. At the concert, it was like a giant exodus of cattle. I couldn't even breathe in the crowd!

I know I'm chiming in late, but one thing to remember too is that no one at a concert has a parking pass, so everyone is having to pay, get change, etc.
I don't know how many parking passes the Canes issue but, even if it's only a couple of thousand, it makes a big difference in getting people through the lines.

The concerts that I have been to parking on the arena side haven't been that bad...but for NCSU football and if you park on the stadium side, it seems to take forever!! Once we went to a State/Clemson football game during the fair.. ...and if someone hadn't let us out, we would still be there..

Oh, going anywhere near there during the fair is just not a happening thing. I make it a point to avoid sporting events while the fair is on and to not go to the fair during the sporting events. And yes, I do go to the fair - my daughter loves it!
