Ok, so I actually looked at my calendar and said, "oh crap, there's a game today". Yes folks, it's that bad. Fortunately, it's almost over. The suffering will soon come to a bittersweet end.

The Hurricanes will be in sunny Florida tonight taking on the Panthers in a meaningless, please-make-it-end game. Ok, so I'm not sure if it's actually sunny in Florida but I do know the Canes are ready for this season to be over. That's how they're playing lately anyway. My standards have been lowered to the point where I get excited if they don't get shut out. Rooting for the team with the worst record will do that to a person.

Anyhoo, nothing new in Canes land. With Boulerice out, we can't even look forward to a rematch between the Bull and Worrell. Worrell might be out, too, because of a knee injury so maybe it won't matter.

Not much of interest going on in Florida, either. It will just be a matter of who out-sucks the opponent tonight.

I have only one wish for tonight: FOR CHRISSAKES CAN JEFF DANIELS GET A FREAKIN' GOAL???

Goalies: Who knows. Irbe? Luongo? Maybe they'll just put some orange cones in front of the net.

Here's the pre-game skate (http://www.carolinahurricanes.com/news/news.asp?articleid=1057) from ch.com.

The officials:
Referees: Chris Rooney #21, Marc Joannette #25; Linesmen: Steve Barton #59, Pierre Racicot #65

That would be nice for JD...he works so hard...and crazy your goalie comment made me chuckle...orange cones... :D ;)

I hope they can pull it out so their outlook tonight and Sunday will be a tad brighter! One more time..LET'S GO CANES!! :spin:

I think a shortie is due for our fine JD! He so almost had one in some game a while back....the suck all runs together after a while.

Just hoping for some decent moments like Wednesday's game. Yeah we lost but that shortie Zig got (and the momentum it created) will be burned in my brain for a while to come.

I agree on both counts...I loved Ziggy's goal..can't get any better than a great defensive play and a breakaway score!! :spin: Would love to see at least ONE tonight! ;)

Oh, I easily consider that one of the best moments out of the last ten games or so...and possibly the best moment of the last month or so of this season, unless something great happens tonight or especially Sunday... :spin:

I checked Fox Sports Net's website, and the game WILL be on, no baseball. :)

As for the game, I just hope Jokinen doesn't pick Irbe apart. Everyone says that Archie looked really good against the Pens, so here's to hoping he can keep up the good work.

Whew, thank goodness I'm not going to be subjected to any baseball tonight....... I'm all for Daniels getting a goal, he's one of my favorite players, always working hard, trying his best.

Calling Hyena though, if you've got the time can you put Ziggy's shorty? After hearing how great it was, I'm really wanting to see that! I promise to help you out next season with uploading stuff as I'll be taping the games as well then in hopes of uploading some sweet goals, etc.

I'm all for Irbe tonight in goal though. He played solid for the most part against the Pens and I still want to see one.....last......win for the guy!!!!

dude, i would put it up in a second, but i didn't tape the whole game. i didn't get the shortie. not to go OT, but getting together a bunch of game tapes (older & more recent, playoff games, etc.), and digitizing awesome highlights would be a pretty fun project to work on during the off-season. ;)

Well if ever there was a winable game this is it...then again I said that about Wednesday night too...

And JD deserves a goal to go along with his A. He works so hard for so little offense...guess he fills a different niche...but he deserves it.

Go Canes.

Ok, so I actually looked at my calendar and said, "oh crap, there's a game today". Yes folks, it's that bad.

Consider yourself lucky. I forgot about the last time we played the Coyotes, and the day we tied the Kings 0-0, I also forgot to watch it. It has been that bad indeed.

I know. That's my greatest wish at the moment. Not for us to win a game but for JD to get a goal.

And that wish almost came true in our boys' shutout against the Pens...remember that shorthanded by goal that really had been but wasn't because of a stupid ref's disallowance? JD really does deserve a shortie after that...

well, all 3 goals were off at least 1 rebound, sometimes 3. I don't blame Irbe at all for the score. 2nd period looked much better though and I thought the score would be closer. Unfortunately we got all of those power plays to slow us down  Vrbata has been excellent on the quick shot off the faceoff.
The knee on knee hit was St. Jacques and I think Shvidki. The Panther definitely got the worst of it and went to the dressing room while Bruno went to the bench and has since played. Thought we were gonna lose 2 more of our players when our D men checked each other at our own end on the power play
Overall the 2nd was pretty strong.. hopefully we can catch up in the 3rd.
Tanabe/Worrell sure seems like a strange matchup

Well.....the Devils won. That means the Islanders have clinched right? Maybe they will take a day off Sunday and let us have one last win. Doubt it. And we sure aren't getting the win tonight.

Well at least we scored one goal. I noticed something watching the Rangers lose to the Devils :spin: , the Devils could teach the Canes a bit about holding on to a one goal lead. With the R goalie pulled, the Devils continually tried to hit the empty net, thereby keeping the puck down at that end of the ice. Even Brodeur attempted a SOG. Rangers couldn't get past the red line to save their lives (which in this case they didn't). Stack'em up at the red line and prevent the team from scoring. That's how you win a one goal game!!

Yup- Kevyn did play and finished out the night with a +/- of even and had 13:11 minutes of ice time. :) I think that was one of the only positive things about tonight's game.

<sigh> one more game guys...one more chance.

i agree with Shell -- great 2nd period. i love seeing all the SOG, i love seeing vrbata take so many shots (even if none of them go in  ). archie made some great saves again. it was good to see k. adams back, and HORRIBLE to see bruno go out. he did play some after the hit though -- i know i wasn't seeing things. i hope he's out there on sunday.

It is really trying to type this out with that stupid panther growl (At least the Canes do not use confounded sound effects for every stoppage and continuation of play...though I wouldn't mind occasionally hearing a thunder rumble or some sort of storm sound. :smoke:) making my ears ring here at the Teco Arena...but I will try my best to get out the second to last good, bad, and ugly for the 2002-2003 season...

The Good:

The Hill Is Alive With the Sound of Music - Well, that would be the case at the RBC...nice goal Hilly! And splendid jobs assisting it Ronnie and Heddy.

(imitates Edith Bunker) Arrrrrchie! - I don't care what the scoreboard states little dude, you looked fine out there tonight. Loved your saves on the breakaways, which in the end made you look far more impressive than Luongo. Speaking of Luongo...

The Bad:

O, O, O, O, O, O... - (sings) ...you don't have to go, O, O, O, O, O. Oh, sorry. :) And no, that is actually not referring to O'Neill, but instead Senior Roberto Luongo. All those O's...anyway, what a pest this guy is. Speaking of O'Neill, he had a no-goal that would have been a goal had it not been for Luongo having his glove be in the right place at the right time. Apparently, he has never heard a certain Dr. John song. Speaking of music, I gotta give Roberto credit, he does have the right moves. But, why does he have those right moves against the Canes...why, WHY?! This enigma is right on up there with how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop...the world may never know.

The Ugly:

Where's the D?! - Well, where was it? If it existed, this could have been a close game. But nooooo....we had to let those puddytats get a trifecta in the first period. Maybe I'm not the only one who would not mind some sound effects at Canes games, with the said team demonstrating how much they like that razzin' frazzin' growl. Hmmmm..."Three out of four Carolina Hurricanes prefer sound effects as much as they prefer Crelm Toothpaste with the miracle ingredient, Fragalin!" does have a nice ring to it. Anyway, back to the D issue...you know the D is having an off night when Heddy chooses the most inappropriate time to teach Tanabe the D-man's job of hitting someone in the middle of a power play. I thought that's what practices are for...oh well.

Peter Piper - Hello Mr. Worrell...just like Primeaudonna up in Philly, whenever you score, assist, and/or give one of my boys a nice big hit, you will find yourself here. Of course, the only way out is to say "I confess!" as the Bull comes charging towards you with his fists primed and ready. Nobody expects a Carolinian inquisition...

Fashion Police - Tripp, I honestly hate putting you here with this game being your final broadcast of the season and all...but A PINK SUIT?! Are we trying to somewhat out-do Rod Roddy of Price Is Right fame? All that is missing is a ton of glitter on that suit. Then again, I just had a scary thought...did you get ideas from watching Pink Panther movies and/or cartoons? Not that there's anything wrong with watching those, they do rule. :) But pink at, of all games, a Panthers game is just disgusting...heck, wear Canes red!

One more game to go before it's vacation time Canes...can you win it? I along with a (hopefully) sold out crowd at the RBC this Sunday really want you to. Not to mention how it would just really feel good to end such a bitterly sour season on a sweet note...c'mon Canes, you know you want that win just as much if not even more so than your admiring Caniac public.

and just one more thing: how could o'neill miss that one when he got the pass in front of the goal? he actually couldn't miss it. but he did

Well, it's not the first time he has said it this season...remember the game against Anaheim (The one at home in the RBC.)? O messed up in a way that resulted in an Anaheim goal, and Ronnie gave him a F-bomb...at least a few thought they saw that.

Oh well...it's not like he does it *that often*.

Re: the dump and chase... I think that anything the Canes are doing wrong these days is simply because they know that they're last in the Southeast, Last in the East, and Last in the NHL. That's the only way I can imagine them doing that, is a loss of hope to accomplish anything on the ice this season. I don't think that anyone (i.e., Vrbata), has fallen under the spell of the Canes glorious dump and chase; I just think that it's really hard to put forth any effort in times like these, and the Canes, well.... they aren't.

Bruno is a very fortunate person. If a charley horse is all he sustained from THAT collision, then he's sturdier than a Sherman tank. Glad he faired so well. That was a brutal crunch. Anyone hear how the other guy made out?

not to be the bearer of bad news..but when Bruno left the plane and walked away..it looked like more than a charley horse to me.

I must agree. He was limping and looked to be in pain. Sure hope he's able to play tomorrow.

Thank you Tommy and well said...I'm glad to know I am not the only one who sees the Canes simply ready for the season to end and nothing else.
