Is it me or was the crowd dead as a door nail this evening? I must admit that the only time I got excited was when I was booing or saying something bad about the fellas. To those of you around me when that happened, I apologize. It was about the only way I could get through the game.
I don't know what happened it is like the teams play sucked the excitement out of the game for me. Anybody else feel this way about the game.
My apologies to 328 but the only way would could keep watching this crap was to make wise ass remarks.

Team = Dead
I don't blame people for not coming out. I'm having a VERY hard time showing up, and I've already paid for my tickets.
I'd be SHOCKED if there were 5,000 in there tonight. My guess is about 4200. Give people something to cheer about for pete's sake.
I dread going to the RBC now. it's ridiculous. and to think I was going to upgrade our 24 to a full season. WHEW. close call.

And if anybody complains about people threatening not to buy tickets, I will defend guyute (and others with that viewpoint) to my death. Who the hell wants to watch this team most nights? There is no argument against not upgrading tickets.

The really scary thing is, the team was doing GREAT back when Canezilla, Captain Slack and I were buying tickets to individual games, or getting freebies. Then we got the 24 game pack and...ack. So we figure, no WAY can that happen again, this is the HURRICANES! So we got the full-season pack and...again, ack.
For now, I wouldn't suggest an upgrade. The full-season ticket holders get access to a few more things, but you don't really get treated that much better. In fact, as Canezilla will happily tell you, some of the ticket reps still treat us like crap!

We brought our very good friends with us tonight that are not into hockey.. I can't count how many times one of them leaned over to ask "You can't usually hear their skates on the ice this clearly can you?"
I'll cheer till I'm hoarse, but for the love of god, give me something to cheer for.

Usually us security love a nice, peaceful crowd because that means we can relax. However, when the crowd goes comatose like they did tonight then we start worrying about our jobs.

Even devotees of the 328 atmosphere have to resort to wise cracks on nights like this. The best I could come up with was "I'll trade you Jeff O'Neill for six bags of pucks and a Mars bar."

your voices reaches the ice, we have NO IDEA what you are saying...
unless it's *insert goalie names here* you suck! ;) We get that loud

I will buy season tickets as long as there is a hockey team. Maybe you
guys don't think it's worth the money to watch this team ....but I

Actually, I don't believe that we did the goalie chant last night in 328. I heard it coming from some other section but they had no clue of when it should be done and they did it several times in a row.
328 was unusually quiet last night. They didn't give us too much to shout about. I, for one, felt like my heart is being ripped out. Maybe we should just trade the whole damn team and bring everyone from Lowell up. Couldn't be much worse.

I agree. Very dead atmosphere last night.
I tried to get something going, but when you feel like you're generating more energy in your row than the effort put out by your team, you feel like: why bother?
We've been 24-game holders until this year, when we upgraded to a full season. We're already thinking we'll go back to 24 next year -- or split a full-season w/another couple...... as much as I want to keep a team in Raleigh, I do expect something in return for my $$$$
It's like this: If you buy crappy bannanas from Kroger's and every time you went there to shop they still had crappy bannans-- after awhile you'd find someplace else to shop..... sorry, just MHO.

I agree completely. I'll do what I can to keep a team here. But, spending $1000 or $2000 MORE than I already spend, for this team. no F'n way. I won't cancel our package (or not-renew) next year, but no way in hell I'm doubling our cost for this. this team doesn't deserve it.

Maybe it's just me, seeing how this is my first year as a full STH, but the entire game experience has become a bit stale. If the team is going to stink on the ice they need to vary the promotions up so that I don't have to watch another God-forsaken puck shuffle so easy that anybody with the cognitive skill of a muskrat can figure it out.
How about a High-Stick Chopper Harrison Night?
Or a Guess which Section has the fewest people Night?
Or maybe even a Guess what's in my pants Night? (Taken from the Man Show)
My point is, you're not bringing in new fans with crappy hockey, so make the game experiences a little more palatable for those of us who have plunked sown cash to watch this dreck.
Rant over. War red & white apathy. War Soylent Green is people. I'm out. Rack me.

I agree with you, but when there is no place else to buy bananas what do you do? I don't want the bananas to leave town so I'll keep buying tickets as long as it's financially feasible for me.
I'm thinking rebuilding a hockey team is like making sausage. You don't really want to see it, but like the end result. I hope people will be able to deal with the process (addicts on this board not included in the generic "people"!). It may take more than one season. Look at Ottawa, what 4-5 years ago, and look at them now. Will this franchise get the support to go through that process? I don't know, but I hope so.

Well...as the self appointed leader of 328, I too can vouch that last night's game was like having your heart ripped out of your chest. They gave us little effort, and that is what they got from us. The loudest chant we had last night was a happy birthday singalong for one of the other faithful. We come night in and night out and try to have a good time, but we too get tired of the same ole same ole. In fact, after the game, we decided that Friday night is alternate jersey night. We are all wearing our "non hurricanes" garb. And we know that most of the stuff we yell is inaudible by the time it reaches the ice, but at least we are making noise and having a hell of a time. Hockey is about 70% of the fun, the rest is the great people that I see every game. 328 will be there every game, but until they give us something to get excited about, it is tough to "bring it" every night. Hell, I feel like a coach right about now. Give us something to cheer for, and we are the loudest bunch around. Skate apathetically without heart, and expect the same from us.
Fearing...nothing right about now...

TC, you and CL have laid the dilemma out quite well. I thought last night that if this team can't rise into something people can enjoy this season - then how many of us will be there next season? Will we all fit into 1 section. And of course, where does that leave this franchise.

I realized something last night.....this team wins financilly the worse they play with me. The worse they play, the more I want something to eat!! They suck, I spend an exorbitant amount of money on stale popcorn or something that should not be allowed to call itself a soft pretzel. I'm paying them more than usual for playing like crap. What is wrong with me???
My biggest gripe about in game promotions at the moment (gee, it's amazing how much more I notice them when the hockey is lulling me to suicide) is that the person who "wins" the jersey is never a person who even knows the answer to the freakin' hockey related questions!!!! What is up with that?
As an aside, someone on the Aftermath last night had a good rant going and at the end he said something to the effect of "I know you guys are going to tell me to step back from the ledge now but I'll tell you what....these guys aren't worth jumping for right now!" I know how he feels.

LOL RK. That reminds me of when I used to go to LSU B-ball games (in the 80s when they were good) and the students had to get to the games 2 hours early to get seats when the doors opened (general admission with Student IDs). We'd bring Trivial Pursuit and play it to kill the time while waiting for the game.
Talk about an insult - let's see a big game of cards or trivial pursuit or charades going on in the stands.

. I am not a season ticket holder or a mini-season plan holder. We go to as many games as financially possible. I've been to 4 this year and they lost everyone. It sucks, but I'm still going to go when I can. My whole family follows the team. We love to go to the games and make a big deal out of it. It's entertainment. It's like going to a movie or a play for us.I'm not going to stop going to the movies because one was bad. I'm not going to stop going to the games becaause of one or two (or 22 ) bad ones. I just hope they stay around for a while so I can keep going. Enough said...
on another note. ...Friday is 96rock night. Expect a bigger crowd. I bought 17 tickets for Friday for my son's birthday party . WE'll be in Section 330. Go 'Canes

I'm not a season ticket holder or pack holder either..i usually buy my tickets off the scalpers out front because honestly i can get them cheaper that way. I've been to 10 games this year so far..and i've enjoyed myself every time i went, but i've also had the luxury of having the sprint suite for a few games, so i enjoy the surroundings just as much as being there.. i dont know, hockey is the *ONLY* pro sport event i've ever been to, so i have this biased love for going..

Cool. Backgammon in the aisle. Neato. I'm in.
Tommy - do you sit in the seats closest to the aisle with the railing that blocks 108 from 107? Maybe we could put the board down there and play a game. Then on Sunday, the RBC Center would then disallow backgammon boards from being brought inside the premises. Maybe one of our usher friends here could request the entrance to 108 and let us get away with it. :-)

As is my normal custom, I checked out the bar on the club level between periods. There were a few more people than normal which I attributed to the abysmal play. My assumption turned out to be right. When the second started, hardly anyone left. I guess drinking was the best way to get through that game.

I left Tuesdays game in the worst mood I have been in all season. Captain Slack said "at least it wasn't a shut-out." While that is true, they played like crap and I'm tired of looking for the 'gold lining' the 'insert whatever optimistic cliche you like here'. I serioulsy wanted to find a way to go talk to these guys and let them know how *&^$ing fortunate they are to be able to play this game and get paid as much as they do to do it. I try not to think of 'what ifs' to often in terms of my disability. I was young and did something wreckless and I have to deal with that, but If I can get up every morning go to work doing something that I sorta like, NOT LOVE, and then turn around and shell out a huge chunk of money(for me anyway) to watch these guys do something the truly love. They DAMN WELL BETTER SHOW ME SOME EFFORT!
I know they won last night...played rather well in fact, but they KEEP doing this. Giving me a few more straws to grab onto. A little ray of hope. I am not buying into it this time, not buying into the 'we've not given up on the season'. I've been sucked in too many times this yr.
All that being said...I'll be at EVERY game I can make (all but 2 thus far) and am already setting aside money for next yrs season tickets. I love this sport and I love this team.

I'm with Mona in that I still have a tiny twinge of hope....but I'm trying really hard to ignore it. I'm trying to just watch the hockey (when they actually play it) and ignore the rest and I hope to look up in March and go "wow, since when are we leading the division?"

I agree with this. It may be a rough road ahead but I honestly think this year is going to be a rebuild process. Our division was the weakest a few years back and our only competition was Washington and look at where they are now and look at where Tampa Bay and Atlanta are. TB and Atlanta in the past two years have become a force in our division but they had to suffer the restructuring first. So as much as we all are discouraged and disappointed right now, I do believe there will be much better days to come. Yes, I too have to say that when they play the games like the Mighty Mights, I have to find something else to watch or listen to BUT I'll still be sitting in the stands as much as my bank account can afford or just spend a little bit more money on cable and watch them at home. Either way, I'll be watching because I want to see that series of games where I can say "they're back!"
