Once again, I am posting memories...only these are a little different. This year, there are no playoffs to look forward to. And we are in last place. BUT that doesn’t mean I had a bad season. This season was filled with a bunch. And here are some of the.

At the start of the season, I was able to go to opening night against the Rangers. And as the Canes took to the ice...my friends looked at me and said, "Your home." See, I call the ESA my 2nd home because they say, "Home is where the heart is" and last year my heart was at the ESA watching every home playoff game. Even though we lost that night, it was still great to see hockey again!

November 9, I was able to see my idle Mario Lemieux. I got a chance to see him last year, but had the cheap seats so I didn’t see him up close. But for this game, I had center ice tickets. The game was a sell out and it was rowdy! The Canes won 3-2 over the Pens and Mario tallied an assist. And now that I realize he will be retiring (maybe) I am happy I got to see him play.

After the Christmas break, my friends Amy, Scott and Jeremy got a group going. And we came to games as a group. It was fun being with a bunch of people that I am close to and since Scott had never seen hockey before...it was fun teaching him the game. We also ended up going to 8 more games after that. And came up with a new tradition...before every game, we go to the gas station and get a bunch of AMP Energy Drinks so when we arrive inside the ESA, we are super wild. It was great fun and after Sunday, I am going to miss that a lot.

However, the most recent memory I have is of the Toronto game a few weeks ago. Amy won tickets (2 lower level tickets, 3rd row from the ice) and we went together. My Maple Leaf friends on my street went as well and ended up sitting a few rows behind us. So it was on allllll night! The Leafs had a 2-0 lead going to the second and Amy and I were getting it all intermission before I said, we will comeback! They looked and chuckled...but ya know what? We came back and it ended in a tie. And Amy and I shook the hands of my Leaf friends and said great game. (The next day, I was challenged to a street hockey match against them...and I won haha) But it was a great fun and a great comeback by the Canes on that night!

And who can forget all the injuries we have had and then having the minor league players come up and play awesome! We have a great team and will be up there once again next year!

So, even though we will not make the playoffs this year, the memories of this year are just as good and just as strong. I hate having to say bye to our players Sunday, but I will say it with all the heart and passion I have. They have provided me with more than a reason to like hockey. They have provided me strength, memories, fun, and most of all...spirit and passion! I am proud to be a Caniac...no matter what place we are in. GO CANES and thanks for the memories of this year as well.

Great post, Kenny. I liked it over on ch.com as well.

My greatest memories of this season are meeting all of the great people on this board (or most of you, anyhow). I am so happy that I found an awesome group of people with whom I can share my obsession with hockey and the Canes. You guys rock!! :spin:

A very good and well said post Kenny. :)

My best memory from this season? That's hard...I have quite a few...

1. The Detroit Game - How can this not be in everyone's best memories? Sweet how we kicked those guys' butts...

2. The Pre-Xmas Dallas Game - 0-1...nuff said.

3. The 1/15 Pittsburgh Game - While our Canes may have gotten shutout that night (), I'll still never forget this game for it being the first Canes game I ever attended in person. Too bad Lemieux didn't play...seeing him and Francis play against each other was the prime reason I chose this game for a Christmas gift.

4. The 1/20 St. Louis Game - Easily a game I was proud to be at...great crowd, especially when the Canes posted an incredible comeback. :spin:

5. The Valentine's Washington Game - BEST game I attended this season, PERIOD. EXCELLENT crowd, the fact that it was Bayda's FIRST NHL game, the wedding, and especially a SWEET Canes victory! :spin:

and...

6. The 3/28 Practice @ the RecZone - One of my most awesome Canes experiences this season...the boys pucked (When they shoot the puck against the glass and boards.) me a lot, shot a puck over the net for me, and signed everything I brought. Canes, if you're reading this, thanks a ton! :spin:

Oh yeah, and...

7. Finding this place in the middle of November...I don't know what I would do without all of you to converse about my beloved team with! :)

totally agree... that was a very exciting game and an INTENSE crowd!! (although I still think that play with our goalie pulled when Sami gave it away is what bought his ticket out... but i wont go there :p ;)

my memories...

game wise: the st. louis (almost) comeback game. aka the game where brindy scored a goal with a bad hand. my friend and i had cheap seats and moved down after the 2nd period because so many people had left. as the 3rd period went on, more people were leaving and i remember being so pissed off. when we scored those quick goals and almost came back it was amazing. the crowd that was there was so loud it was unbelievable.

of course the detroit game. i ended up buying scalped tickets and taking my dad -- it was his first hockey game. what a great game to see for your first, huh? anyway, when we went down 2-0 i remember thinking, oh no, not again. we're gonna get freaking blown out by detroit. then archie came in and the canes turned it on. jan scored his beautiful hat trick and i threw my free hat down towards the ice even though we were in the upper deck! it was so loud in there and leaving the game i just remember saying to my dad, "THAT was a freaking great game. we were so lucky to have seen that game in person, we played AWESOME."

<sigh>

my third memory is coming on this board and meeting so many of you. it's so great to have people to talk to about the canes and be able to express opinions freely. plus everyone is so nice and even though we're all from different backgrounds, different ages, etc, we have the CANES to unite us! :spin:

Amen, sister. Y'all have gotten me through this season!

And there's nothing like watching the Wings game with a rabid Detroit fan and shoving it in their face! Easily my favorite moment of the season.

Next year we'll be having this 'season wrap-up' thread in late June.

I got to see my first NHL game in January ( the Hurricanes vs the New York Rangers, thank you Guy and Shell http://www.smilies.org/basesmilies3/twark.gif ), so that will be my most triumphant hockey memory this year :)

But, for me, it was all about meeting you wonderful bunch of people. I think I couldn't have fallen in with a better bunch of bananas. http://www.smilies.org/basesmilies3/ban_dance01.gif

Let's keep in touch with each other, no matter what time of year it is. :)

I got to see my first NHL game in January ( the Hurricanes vs the New York Rangers, thank you Guy and Shell http://www.smilies.org/basesmilies3/twark.gif ), so that will be my most triumphant hockey memory this year :)

Memories. Where to begin. My daughter, BatesB13, getting me totally absorbed in this hockey team, and now you guys. It all started with her talking me into getting mini-season tickets this year after having attended a few games last year and all the home post-season games. Then she talked me into going to the Meet the Canes luncheon, my first up-close experience. After that, going to the RecZone practices, to the point I was even taking vacation to go! Then she has me down at the glass taking pictures when the guys warm-up before the games. I would be remiss if I failed to mention reading yours posts here and then meeting a lot of you guys. You're great! But, the greatest memories are of spending time with my daughter at something we are both very passionate about. :D

Well I started off this season a die hard Red Wings fan thinking that a new team could never win a place in my heart, but boy was I wrong.

I was in Carolina visiting some relatives and we caught the Detroit game. It was awesome and I met some awesome Canes fans, and some players who were a class act. I'll always remember walking about to Erik Cole (my whole family in Wings jerseys) and he just said "What do you want?" like we were there to hurt him or something. He was really nice and actually signed for us. And Bret Hedican was giving me some weird looks... The whole organization impressed me.

I began to follow the Canes as closely as I could. I'd listen to the games on the net and read the paper. I even bought a jersey. Battaglia.

I cried the day he got traded. I never thought I'd cry. But I did, I sat in front of the computer after school and just cried.

I'm so sorry the season went down like this. Seeing Canes vets traded. Seeing the guys have nothing to smile about anymore. And seeing the fans so stressed.

It was great seeing all the baby canes come and try their hardest and I hope that next season will be much more successful than this past one, but with just as many memories.

Thanks for a great season guys....

The family got to meet Weekes, Bret & Rod in the dressing room. After our picture was taken with them, I ran back and poked Kevin in the stomach and giggled "Weekesy". Well serious Rod, just hooted and started DANCING as he chanting with Bret, "Go Weekesy, Go Weekesy". :spin:

We have a great bunch of guys on our Hockey Team and you can't help but love the game ! :D

LOL Rons#1 - you poked Kevin Weekes in the stomach??? Did someone dare you? How funny. I must have been in that same group (since we saw the 3 of them in the locker room), sorry I missed it!

I have so many, but here are my top 5:

5) 3/28 practice where almost the whole team signed my hat and after at Champs where Kat, Jen & I were deamed "cool chicks" when we each ordered the 1 lb burgers...

4) Taking my little brother to his first Canes game

3) Meeting up with Mona and crazy Paige at weekday RBC practices (and if you ever hear Paige start screaming about climbing the glass and flinging her 'eggs', run for your life)...

2) 11/29 vs Detroit

1) The entire day of 4/6, from breakfast with Kat & Jen to the pregame tailgate to the game itself to the postgame tailgate. There is that one lingering question- Goodberrys or a beer?

Every practice I went to was memorable, esp. meeting the board members from here, hanging out & sharing a common passion. For games, I can't single out any in particular...meeting Bates' mom & stepdad in January; having a total stranger buy me a Bates puck after one 15 min. conversation, then becoming pretty good friends by season's end; mostly, seeing my mom become as rabid of a fan as I am, even with this abysmal season. Hope many more good memories are to come!

Oh wow! The bevy of Wings fans was your family! lol I was right behind you, with my camera ~ I was wearing a black fedora. Man, I'm sorry I wasn't aware of who you guys were ~ it would've been nice to meet you. Your family seemed really friendly :) In fact, I was still hating on Detroit at the time, so I wasn't expecting much from the fans, but you guys surprised me so pleasantly. Now, much tot he shagrin of most of the people on this wonderful board http://www.smilies.org/basesmilies3/twark.gif , my sister Rio and I are also big Detroiters ;)

So, very nice to finally meet you. :)

This was definitely the year I completed the transition from Erik Cole fan to Caniac. It was a change that began during the playoffs last year. Warning: this is long winded.

The season began with me trying to get tickets to a 'Canes game, but where to go. Unfortunately, hockey season happens to fall during winter, and is not great for long trips. November might be safe, so I got tickets for the November 21 game in Boston in the 3rd row corner. Since my husband is a die hard Bruins fan, he was thrilled.
Boston highlights
1)having a family picture taken (with all but one in their 'Canes gear) with the embarrasingly large sign my kids made
GO 'CANES GO
#26 (eye) #26
Oswego, NY

2) PJ Stock flipping pucks to my kids (they were thrilled even though he was a Bruin, not a Hurricane)

3) After holding up the sign, Bridgestreet run tells me "I'm not sure if Erik saw it, but Bates sure did". That'll do.

4)Die hard Bruins fan husband, forgetting who to cheer for.

Then we were hooked. Need another game, need another fix. Buffalo January 3rd. This time there was no "in the corner" it was 4th row behind the bench. So much to see!! Oh, and you could see the game better too!
Buffalo highlights
1)seeing half the city of Oswego there to cheer for Erik

2)finally getting my father to a game to see Erik play professionally. Dad rarely misses a high school game and even made the treks to see Erik play in Clarkson.

3)'Canes equipment manager, having recognized our sign from the New Year's Eve game at the RBC Center my brother went to, gives the kids more pucks

4)Bates scored!

Finally knew the transformation was complete in January. We finally purchased Center Ice. Of course what was the first game? The night Erik broke his leg. Although we felt badly for him, that didn't stop us from watching the 'Canes. I'm sure I will always be an Erik Cole fan. But I also know I will always be a Hurricanes fan. There is just something about the team and the fans that makes Carolina hockey a great way to pass the time.

Thanks,
I've always enjoyed hockey, but not the way I do now. It's pretty scarey when my sister, Bridgestreetrun, and I get together. It's like we are speaking a different language when we talk about hocket. Even our brother, the first Hurricane fan in the family, doesn't always catch on.

I can't wait for next year's schedule to come out. Gotta get those tickets early. My seats behind the bench are waiting. New season, new memories.

My sister and I used to joke about making a road trip to Raleigh. The more we kid, the more it feels less of a joke and more of a plan. We'd both love to make it down to meet all of the wonderful people down there and catch some hockey (games and practice). I'm sure once we make definite plans you'll have trouble keeping us grounded. It's great to dream.

BSR...you don't have to win a contest to Skate With The Canes...they have an event just for that..the money goes to charity.. $50 each..we went last season..great day...you visit the locker room, the penalty box with Canes' included, autograph table, AND you are on the ice with some of the guys!! :spin:

I would love to be realistically be in the running for some the contests. I'm sure I'd have season tickets (just not sure how many) if we lived within driving distance.

I think the contest Bridge Street Run meant was the one where they would come to your neighborhood to play. Many of the contests are only (I believe) for residents within a certain radius or for NC residents. I'd have to find a new neighborhood if my daughter could/did win - we live on a pretty big hill. Any runaway puck would end up a few blocks away in Lake Ontario.

We'll just keep entering all contests we can - even completing those long surveys for a chance at anything. I'm even considering entering our Christmas card in the CH.com picture contest (once I get a new scanner). Although not a contest, the best winning for me this season was the winner bid on an autographed Erik Cole jersey for my son. It's difficult to render him speechless, but it was done on Christmas.

It was great to see the organization do something like that for the kids. It's not just the adults who have caught Hurricane Fever.

Memories of 2003? Well, I'd like to forget the whole season ever happened, BUT, I want to play along with all of you, so................

Firstly, I had a BLAST going to Toronto for February 18th game. The game was, of course, a heartbreaking loss, but the fans were polite and easy to get along with, and the nightlife after the game is something to be experienced by all, for sure. This was also the first opportunity I had to see Ryan Bayda play, and he was elevated to play on a line with O and Ronnie! Suffice to say, he looked good!

Secondly, there was one Saturday night game in particular. I'm sorry, I can't remember the exact date, but it was a road game in Montreal, and the Hurricanes POUNDED the Habs 7-2, and Erik Cole had a hat trick. My wife, being a Habs fan, was so disgusted by her team's performance, she took off her Canadiens jersey and put on one of my Hurricanes jerseys by the end of the 2nd period.

Tickets to see the Hurricanes in Toronto - Free.
Food and MANY MANY MANY drinks in Toronto - $300.
Seeing your wife change allegiances of her favourite hockey team - PRICELESS!

I believe you are talking about the November 23rd game, Aaryn. A great game that was indeed, and easily one of my top five for this past season.

Whatever gave you that idea?

PS- kind of OT, but my boy from Oregon does kind of fall under memories from this season b/c I met him 2 nights after Cole broke his leg and that's how I'll always remember when that happened. Is that awful??

I've started playing myself which I've always wanted to do, but didn't have the nerve to try. I spend a lot of time on my butt.

Hey McAngel... I play too. Are in you in LTP at the RecZone? If so, I probably know you...

I have to say, that I am so glad that my hockey obsession has now extended to playing myself. Makes the addiction that much worse!

Cool! I will be there on Sunday, so I will see you there! I will probably have on a blue iceplex jersey with the #77.

I also go to the LTP at the Iceplex on Wed nights, and play in a Thurs and a Sunday league there as well. Yes, I am definitely addicted!
