I just talked with my supervisor and almost no one is working today. The nursing staff have some patients that have to be seen if at all possible, but as the speech therapist, I don't have any must see patients, thank goodness.
My supervisor drove in from the Wake Forest area with her husband and said it was a bad idea. They slid through several intersections, saw a truck jack knife and even the beltline is slushy ice, not just slush.
They canceled the teleconference for this afternoon and the hospital is under the highest severe weather policy so I'm staying put!!
Everyone be safe and warm and careful.

Work opened right on time, but I was a bit late because I had to drive my wife to work. Her car wouldn't start. I got into the office and there was only a skeleton staff there. Slowly, everyone has made it in, but the ice here has been causing all kinds of havoc.

We've had a bunch of delays and closings up here. The east coast is a mess right now it seems. It's supposed to stop up here by tomorrow... let's hope it does. It's too cold to take our baby out for no reason (negative temps) so I'm stuck in the house....I'm goin nuts.

Well I had to vote for the normal schedule. I work for State Government and even though the Governor has declared a state of emergency, State Government is not closed... figure that one out. We have adverse weather leave and IF we take it, we have to make it up in one year or we have to use annual leave. I personally think this sucks since RTP companies and SAS can close for their employees..
State Government has closed once that I can remember (besides Hurricane Fran).. we had a huge snowstorm and they closed the offices officially and people *****ed and moaned so much about their tax dollars being wasted, it hasn't happened since..
Well, seeing as I'm independantly wealthy and fabulous, I never work. I lounge by the frozen pool in my Versace bikini and Pucci caftan, drinking Cosmos and uttering loud complaints about the lawn service not doing a fast enough job chiseling the ice from my expensive bluegrass turf. :smoke: Faster, you sniveling peasants! That sod cost me my monthly pair of Manolo Blahniks! *cracks whip*

My work is open, but I'm staying put. They're putting on an Icecapades performance in the parking lot and I'm not into the "crunching" finale.

amusing part of my day so far was watching one of our doctors barrel into one of the clinic's entrance signs.

Working at a hospital we never close but we do have severe weather policy in place- all nonessential employees need not report. And JeffO - I can't speak for the others but in my case- if I take the day off I have to use annual leave - which I am. Its nuts out there.
I just watched two trucks try to make it up my little hill and slide back down. On the side road another car ping ponged off the sidewalks. The neighbors would push him off one side walk and he go over the one on the other side.

IT is a lovely enough world where your office is closed, but you work from home anyway.
I'm just happy to have a job, personally.

Yeah, i'm a teacher and even though on tv it says Wake County's closed, teachers are always expected to report. When we can't get in, which i haven't either day, we have to take vacation/sick days. I remember during the ice storm, our power at school was out and the building didn't even open but we had to use our days.

I have to use PTO as well or take the time unpaid. Better that than slip, sliding away.

My school has been closed BOTH days! I'm shocked!!
Mr SHC's office was closed yesterday but opened at 10am today. Seeing as how it's an hour drive when weather is good, he has to use secondary roads to get to work and he fell on the ice checking out road conditions last night and is pretty banged up he didn't go. He had to use personal time as well.

I am back today after some tricky ice in our driveway and on 2 roads before reaching I-40... Main roads are in great shape, IF you can get out of your driveway.. travel safe...

Mr SHC went back at 10am today as well. We had no problem this morning after getting out of our street. Most of the roads we take were in great shape. Tryon Rd had some iffy spots but nothing bad. I'd bet it's all clear now....until the wet re-freezes tonight.
