What kind of Super Bowl were we watching? Didn't see the "exposure" at halftime (didn't pay much attention to that anyway) and didn't see the Subway or Donkey commercial.
Maybe it occurred during the power outage. Yes - we were out of power for about two hours (5:15-7:25) due to a transformer bust...talk about panic attack...not so much for possibly missing the game but finding all the emergency numbers for when hubby went into cardiac arrest !

I think Janet feigned surprise. I mean, do most people not planning to expose their boob wear a pasty? :eek2: (especially a metal 'solar' nipple medallion?)
An article on our paper claims that Janet's "people" warned of a few surprises.
It was stupid and a bad halftime. I didn't like watching the 2nd half thru the haze of the smoke.
I think my favorite halftime in recent memory was U2 in 2002.
I'd be surprised if Kid Rock doesn't get some flack for his actual-flag-as-a-poncho wardrobe.
When you've got the 2 sets of demographics in our house and both think it was a weak halftime, I think you've missed the boat, lol.
In a press release before Sunday's game, CBS's sister outlet [VIACOM's] MTV promised "Janet's Shocking Moments."
"I'll get you naked by the end of this song," sang performer Justin Timberlake, moments before he ripped off Jackson's top, exposing a bare breast -- the nipple covered by a metal 'solar' nipple medallion.

I guess Janet's boob was more attractive than the guy who dressed as a ref, got down to the field, stripped, and ran..

HOUSTON (AFP) - A streaker delayed the start of the second half of the Super Bowl, with New England Patriots linebacker Matt Chatham giving police an assist in apprehending the naked male interloper.
With the smoke from an elaborate musical half-time show still hanging in the air at Reliant Stadium, the streaker displayed his cheekiness by stripping off a referee's uniform and running along the middle of the field.
Players from the Patriots and Carolina Panthers were preparing for the second-half kickoff to the American football championship game when the incident began.
Startled police reacted a few moments later, their elaborate security precautions humbled as more than a dozen policemen raced onto the field to try and apprehend him.
But the nude showoff strayed too near Chatham, a member of the Patriots' kickoff team, and the burly padded player slammed into the streaker, sending him to the turf, where he was quickly buried beneath a host of police.
Fifteen policemen took the streaker off the field and the second half began moments later.

Yeah! Our thoughts exactly! "Oh! I so suprised-- good thing I wore my lucky nipple pasty!!" ;)
I think I'm just getting old... but the whole halftime "entertainment" generated a discussion in our gathering about how many people watching actually appreciate that kind of "music."
Since the Super Bowl is watched by a very large age-range. Shouldn't the halftime entertainment try to appeal to more than just the under-30 set?

That dude looks like that and is apparently a professional streaker.. what a career choice!
Professional streaker Mark Francis Roberts announced he would streak the Super Bowl before the start of the third period. That proclamation was made on his Web site, www.thestreaker.org.uk.
And, sure enough, he slipped through the Super Bowl's security system to make his romp into the field. Had New England Patriots linebacker Matt Chatham not leveled him, he might still be prancing about Reliant Stadium.
So who was guarding the field? Rams defensive tackles Damione Lewis and Jimmy Kennedy?
Houston Police spokeswoman Sandra Aponte said Roberts got into the game with a legitimate ticket and dressed in a tear-away referee outfit, with the pieces held together by Velcro. (Sort of like the technology Janet Jackson used on her outfit.)
Once Roberts got on the field, he was able to strip to a G-string with one motion.
It's a good thing our nation was on guard against terrorism at our nation's biggest event. There's no telling what might have happened if law enforcement wasn't paying attention.

Justin and Janet Steal Super Bowl Show, According to TiVo; Wardrobe Malfunction Scores Highest Reaction Ever on TiVo
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Justin Timberlake and
Janet Jackson top the show during Sunday's Super Bowl, attracting almost twice as many viewers as the most thrilling moments on the field, according to an annual measurement of second-by-second viewership in TiVo households.
The Jackson-Timberlake moment drew the biggest spike in audience reaction TiVo has ever measured. TiVo said viewership spiked up to 180 percent as hundreds of thousands of households used TiVo's unique capabilities to pause and replay live television to view the incident again and again. Overall, the halftime extravaganza had a powerful grip on viewers. According to TiVo's analysis of aggregated data from an anonymous sample of 20,000 households, viewership of the game's intermission increased by 12 percent compared to last year's halftime show.

He came from the UK to do that and they call them periods in their version :) From his website:
He streaked just before the start of the third quarter (half time in English football!). His 30 second show certainly livened up the proceedings after the lack lustre official half time show. The crowd lapped it up, with their cheers and flash photography, Mark was sure to be buzzing, knowing he gave the American public a much needed laughter session.

I'm in the under-20 crowd and I hated it....
But I don't have the music tastes of the stereotypical teen. I'll only be happy when they get Pink Floyd to do a halftime show.
Now that MTV is out of the question, maybe they'll let VH1 do it next year.
And, yes, U2 was the best halftime show ever.
As for the 'incident' , I'm sure it was planned....but not revealed (ha....revealed) to Janet. It was a good way to gain some exposure (ha...exposure) and cause controversy. Any way to get your name out in public is good, I suppose.

I sincerely hope she was part of it. If her wardrobe person gave her a tear away bustier and give Timberlake the clue to rip it off, then I think she should sue them both.
Then again, gotta go back to the pasty beneath. That and the fact that Timberlake is standing there with the boob cloth in his hand looking rather calm.

of course, in all the spots leading up to the half, when she said "see you at the half" they were nearly popping out. I remember thinking, if you're that proud of the girls Janet, just wear them on the outside! little did I know. I didn't see the halftime show, but it seems like a lot of hooha for a boob.

she looks to me like she looks like she does in every video I've ever seen her in.
of course, in all the spots leading up to the half, when she said "see you at the half" they were nearly popping out. I remember thinking, if you're that proud of the girls Janet, just wear them on the outside! little did I know. I didn't see the halftime show, but it seems like a lot of hooha for a boob.

Interesting site Aaryn!
From the little clip it is obvious that Timberlake knew EXACTLY what he was doing. So she must have too. I suspect the "surprise" was just part of the act.

Now they are saying he was supposed to rip off the costume, but the red bra was supposed to remain.. I know i always buy tearaway bras when I want them to stay on myself.. yes, publicity stunt, and it apparently worked well!

The red "bra". Hahahaha.
I think perhaps Janet forgot she's releasing an album, not posing for an upcoming pictorial. She pulled out hits older than my kids. I just don't think people will say "wow, nice boob action at the Super Bowl, let me buy the CD" - unless of course it comes with a center fold, lol.
I did get a chuckle this evening, I asked my middle schooler if it "happened to get mentioned" at school today. At first he said "uh, no" and then after a long pause "well, maybe" and we burst out laughing.

Maybe they were trying to compete with the Lingerie Bowl. I mean, I don't know anyone who saw it but I bet there was no boob action quite like Janet's.

... but the red bra was supposed to remain..
Red bra my a$$!! It's clearly red lace sewn to the edge of the bra cups!
You can see it in the piece that Justin's holding.....
bahhh! It was a rigged costume, with a metal pseudo-pasty underneath..... I don't buy the "malfunction" story at all!!
Janet's getting all the publicity she needs for a sagging career...

you are correct SHC... there was more boob-action in the half time show than in the Lingerie Bowl. Though, that wasn't all that bad either. /shrug.
kind of pointless and silly... but hey, it was better than Nelly, P Diddy, et all (though we did get back in time for the breakaway bra show)

[I think I'm just getting old... but the whole halftime "entertainment" generated a discussion in our gathering about how many people watching actually appreciate that kind of "music."
What you've got to do is teach 8th graders like I do, and they'll keep you "hip".

Entertainer Janet Jackson (news) poses for photographers following a news conference touting the halftime show of Super Bowl XXXVIII in Houston, in this Jan. 29, 2004 file photo. In her first scheduled public appearance since the Super Bowl, Jackson was awarded for her humanitarian and charitable contributions. Jackson was honored Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, by Behind the Bench, an association of wives of NBA players. Organizers said they were thrilled to have Jackson headline their annual fund-raiser at the Beverly Hills Hotel. (AP Photo/Amy Sancetta, File)
