Just two things I wanted to mention...
1. For those of us that will be in attendance at tomorrow's Fan Appreciation Day game... I'm hoping (amd totally expecting) the fans to give the Canes an appreciative sendoff at the end of the game in the true manner and spriit of Canes Fans... who are the best, and most supportive, fans, in the entire NHL... if not in the entire world of profesional sports. I just read an article in today's N&O where the Rangers lost last night at home, putting them out of the playoffs (yay!) and the fans booed all of the players during the post-game ceremony where the players were giving fans the jerseys off their backs. I'm sorry, I don't like the Rangers as a team for the way they continue to try to buy the Stanley Cup... but to boo the individual players while they're giving away their jerseys... come on now. It's only a game! I know that true Canes Fans appreciate the turmoil this team has gone through this season... the amazing number of injuries to key players... and how the young guys who came up from Lowell put on a heck of a show for us, win or lose. It has been a ton of fun watching them score in their first games in the NHL and watching the Mallet, Bruno, etc. mature... and it sure gives me a lot of hope for next season and the seasons after that.
2. I remember reading not longer ago in an interview with PK that the Canes were on the verge of setting the attendance mark for home games in a season in Carolina. I think it was said that they only needed to average something like 13,500 or so fans for the last few home games to do it, and that was before last Satruday's game when we had 17,677 in house... so I'm assuming that's going to happen since I'll assume there are more than 10,000 tickets already sold for tomorrow's game. PK commented on the incredible fan support and I just wanted to raise a toast to all of us Canes fans who have stuck with this team and supported them through the struggles of this season and continue to show other fans around the NHL (yes, like the Rangers fans) what it means to be REAL fans. As I've stated in an earlier post a while back... we're not only fans of the team as a whole and want to see them win, but we're fans of the players because they are good people and give a tremendous amount back to the community over and over again and that is also a large part of why we show our support.

It's now time to celebrate the season, Canes fans... maybe not for the final won-lost record, but for:
- the players' and team management's recognition of our tremendous support, even in the lean times... don't think for a second that this isn't recognized by players, management, and potential future free agents as well. Maybe it wasn't appropriate a few years ago, but how many good players and potential free agents do you think now rule out coming to Carolina because it's not a hockey place? There might be other reasons such as money... but if I was a player, I sure would rather play my heart out for Canes fans than Rangers fans or Flyers fans, etc.
- the talent we obviously have in Lowell and the fact that so many of them now have had a taste of the NHL and we (and management) have been able to evaluate them for next season
- the first round draft pick coming up
- Caniac - I would be very remiss if I were not to mention this forum... letsgocanes.com... Caniac has done an absolutely tremendous job in getting this set up and maintaining it, giving Canes fans a place to bond, commiserate together, realize that many other fans have the same thoughts and concerns, and just 'let it all out' and then feel better. From all of us, "Thanks, Caniac".
- All of the resident members on this site... you are a cool bunch and it's fun 'hanging out' with you all... what a great bunch of fans!!!

I, for one, can't wait to go pick out my seats for next season this summer and will be counting the days until next season.

As someone else in a post the other day, we all need to remember that this is a 12-month-a-year site, and not just one to use during the season. Let's make sure we spend the off-season sharing the same thoughts, concerns, and hopes for the future.

Great post, ZJ. We are the best fans in the league and we have alot to be thankful for. We got a great little team here...one that will achieve alot next year.

But we do have to keep this site active over the offseason...I for one will go through heavy withdraw! :spin:

echoing the others, great post indeed! I can guarantee you that I'll be out of voice by the end of the day.. but all do to cheering for sure. We're the same fans that gave a great standing ovation as we got eliminated from the playoffs during the first round, year before last.So long as I can keep from crying, it'll all be good

I really hate it that the fans booed the Rangers. Their management sets them up for it, IMO by adding huge money players and promising to win. While they are not my favorite team, I do feel for some of the players who work hard and try and want to win. they are in a really tough spot and I don't know why players continue to agree to play for them with fans like that. for me, there wouldn't be enough money in the world......

although, the fans have been promised the world and never get to the playoffs so I understand their disappointment too. just wish they displayed it more appropriately.
