This is one of those threads to kinda see what other people like. (I like those kinda threads, lol.)

So what are your three favorite:
1) bands?
2) books?
3) movies?

If you wanna put in less, or more, do whatever, and its a good place to discuss all of the above categories, I think.

my personal faves:

bands: The Vines, The Pixies, The Strokes
books: Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder, Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, and The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
movies: The Boondock Saints, The Pianist, and Memento

Bands: U2, Pink Floyd, Matchbox Twenty
Books: Isaac's Storm by Erik Larson, Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot by Al Franken, Hatchet by Gary Paulsen (Yea, geared for a young audience, but a very good book nonetheless...they even made a movie about it.)
Movies: The Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, Top Gun

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Movies:

Blade Runner
Pulp Fiction

Yep! I've been a huge fan of Rush ever since I was in junior high (many years ago), and a friend of mine in St. John's got me turned on to GBS (who will be in Raleigh on 6 April) a few years ago. :)

You must be a punk ;) :) But you forgot The Jam in that list.

Have you ever read " A Riot Of Our Own" ? It's a book about the Clash, written by their driver from the early days ~ it's a really great read.

I go back and forth on The Jam being one of my favorite bands. Then again, I go back and forth on about a hundred bands being my favorites or not. A Riot of Our Own is indeed a great book. I was thinking about it when I put up my list, but I couldn't think of the title. I definitely prefer creative non-fiction as a general rule, as it tends to be wackier than most fiction you'll find.

See, mine depends on mood. I see X in the bands list and I go on a whole new tangent with that list. I soooo love X. I better stop reading or I'll be posting a new list every 30 minutes.

I do the same thing. When I was thinking of my list, X just popped into my head as an awesome band. I could write lists forever and never be satisfied. Right now, I'm thinking about Belle & Sebastian and Chuck Berry, who I didn't include because he isn't a "band." Speaking of B&S, their new record is crazy 70s bright poppy stuff; totally different from the old chamber pop and very, very good.

P.S. If you like the Pixies, check out the Toadies... they say the Pixies were their inspiration, and they do a cover of Where Is My Mind.

Please note: The Toadies are awful and should be shot for even suggesting that the Pixies were anything to them other than material to steal riffs from. No offense if you like them. ;)

Bands: #1 has to be El Beatles. Just love the works of Juan, Pablo, Jorge and Gringo! ...along with all the solo efforts. Others - Led Zepp, Eagles, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Sheryl Crow and from Christian music - Petra and John Elefante.

Books: The Left Behind series, Beatle bio's

Movies: The works of Monty Python & Mel Brooks, Harry Potter films. The silly-funny stuff like Airplane and Naked Gun.

Speaking of the Naked Gun. Did anyone else observe the irony of O.J. Simpson in the movie and real life? It's weird. In the movie, O.J. worked for the LAPD and the climax took place at a 1 game playoff between the Seatle Mariners and the California Angels (which would have been an absolute joke in 1988). Then fast forward to 1995 and there was O.J. on trial battling against the LAPD and the very day he was aquitted, the Seatle Mariners and the California Angels played a 1 game playoff for the AL West championship! :eek2:

Then again, maybe I'm the only one who thought the connection was weird. ;)
