Defenseman to Fill Out Carolina Lineup
RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 12, 2004) – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that defenseman Allan Rourke has been recalled from Lowell of the American Hockey League. Injuries to Carolina defenseman Aaron Ward (wrist) and Bob Boughner (knee) led to Rourke’s latest recall.
This marks Rourke’s second recall to the Hurricanes this season. Rourke (6’ 2”, 215 lbs.) played in his first NHL game on Oct. 28 against San Jose during his initial Carolina recall. The Mississauga, Ont., native ranks third among Lock Monsters defensemen in scoring this season with 14 points (5g, 9a) in 46 games. The Hurricanes acquired Rourke from Toronto in a May 29, 2003, trade that sent Harold Druken and Jeff Daw to the Maple Leafs. Rourke was originally selected by Toronto in the sixth round, 154th overall, of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft and the 23-year-old notched 31 points (12g, 19a) in 65 games with St. John’s of the AHL last season.
The Hurricanes host the Washington Capitals tonight at the RBC Center at 7 p.m., before hitting the road for Saturday’s 12 p.m. matinee at New Jersey.
