Ooooo...that's a hard one. All of the games mentioned in that poll are good, and I almost went with each one when thinking about my choice. But in the end, I chose "Other" because IMO, the best game of the season was the St. Valentine's Night Capital Massacre. ;) The factors behind my choosing that were...

1. The fact that I was there. ;)
2. The fact that the crowd was incredibly good...though the St. Louis game really had an awesome crowd too.
3. The fact that it was Bayda's first NHL game.
4. The fact that the Canes won. :D

and...

5. Everything about that game clicked together well...the crowd, how the Canes played, Jagr not getting on the scorecard, it being Valentine's night...the only thing missing was a much deserved shutout for Weekes. If only Nylander didn't score with eight minutes left...

Other games that belong on this poll IMO are...

BOTH October games at and against the Devils.
The October 30th game against the Islanders.
The November game against the Pens. (Almost all the games in the nine game homestand for that matter...)
The December 20th game at the Thrash (BEAUTIFUL game-winning goal in OT by Ward!)
The January 24th game against the Panthers.
The March 6th game at the Pens.
The March 7th game against the Wild.
The March 12th game at the Sabres.
The March 15th game against the Kings.
The March 18th game against the Senators.

And all of that goes to show that even a horrible season has a lot of great moments and games...often too many to choose just one favorite from.

I went Detroit with no thought at all. We went to about 30 games and watched the rest (missed 3 altogether) and that was by far the most fun I had all season! ahhh the future was so bring back then and beating detroit was all icing.

Oh, Detroit is easily my second pick...if only I could have gone to THAT for my first Canes game in person instead of the 1/15 Pittsburgh shutout.

Everything about that game made it the overall best too...Detroit immediately scoring twice, making it look like the Canes didn't have a chance. Then, with Irbe coming in because of Weekes going out with a concussion, everything just exploded. Not only did the Canes' rally and scoring in that game cooked, but it was also sweet that Irbe finally got a win...his first of the season IIRC. Not to mention that this wasn't just any team whose a** the Canes' whupped, but DETROIT. Revenge is so sweet... :D  :smoke:

Sure! You know that John Deere Hat Trick Contest they have at the games? Well, Canesluver/Shawn was the winner of that at the Detroit game. When Hlavac scored his third goal, Shawn immediately did a funky dance celebrating that AND the fact that she won a tractor thanks to it.

Unfortunately, as I said before, I wasn't at the game to see Shawn get down in person, but they caught her on camera for a moment. :)

You ARE OT Turby, but I've been wondering why our own MeanGene never got a chance to shake his groove thang at a game. He would have the crowd ROCKIN'!

Okay, back to Shawn. Funny thing (for me) was that I'd just joined lgc.com in late November and I'm not certain I even posted before that game. When Shawn won the tractor and was shaking her own groove thang in the aisles (sporting her Deere hat and Tshirt) it made the hat trick even MORE FUN - and I didn't even know her or that she was Canesluver until after the game. When she posted that it had been her - I think my reply might have been my very first post here on lgc.

The Detroit game - HANDS DOWN. What a fun, fun night. I think even the Wings fans had a good time - at least the ones around me did! :D

Wow, that Detroit game........:) I was so unbelievably happy that night! For a little bit there, it really felt like it was back in June during the Stanley Cup Finals and we had just soundly defeated the Red Wings at home in game 6.... Oh how glorious that would have been! But that game was just plain fun. And it even unfolded like a fairy tail! The big bad evil Wings game to town prepared to demolish the Hurricanes small village. They scored two goals (eh, knocked down 2 houses?) and things looked hopeless. Then the Hurricanes chief was taken out and had to be replaced by his backup who hadn't gotten much practice lately. Things looked hopeless for the poor little village! The evil Wings were even beating our players over the head with their clubs!

The following day, the Hurricanes decided they weren't finished. They attacked with everything they had and when the smoke cleared on that second glorious day all in attendance said the fight looked to be about even!

On the third and final day of the battle, a wandering swordsman that had happened across the village only days before the battle decided to take charge and finished off his hat trick. (Um, knocked three evil-doers out?) The Canes then defeated the Mighty Red Wings who were then reduced to nasty comments like "The Hurricanes are faking death (diving) better" and "They massacred our troops when we clearly had fewer on the field at that time" (5 power play goals) What a great day it was! And the backup chief, the one that had to step up, assumed the reigns.

Too bad, the season got progressively worse about a week after that (starting with that Florida game) but it was still an awesome, awesome crowd, at an awesome, awesome game!

I can't believe I just typed all that. I feel like such a moron...

I came SO CLOSE to owning game six tickets thanks to my driving instructor last year. My driving instructor got game six tickets from a friend of his in the Raleigh Police. She put them on hold to give to my instructor later on. Well, the day after Detroit won the Cup ( ), my instructor told me the following news as I was buckling up for my drive around Raleigh that day...

"Well Caroline, I'm sorry...but my friend let someone else have the tickets."

"What?! Why?!"

"My friend said that she figured that I didn't want the tickets with the game not happening, so she gave them to someone who said they wanted them for their collection. I told her what if I wanted them for my collection!"

Both him and I were rather ticked with the situation. To this day, I can't believe how close yet so far I was to having a nifty Canes collectible/rarity in those tickets. Anyway, my driving instructor was a cool dude...just about every "lesson" (They were more like sessions to help me get used to driving in Raleigh and heavy traffic.) I had with him, we ended up talking about the Canes. :D

Sorry for going off-topic, but I couldn't help it with the mention of game six tickets... :)

I had to vote for Detroit. The Canes play some seroius NHL hockey when Detroit takes the ice with them. It's always a good game when they play against each other.

Can we play them 82 games next season?

Detroit? The game in which Weekes got the concussion that destroyed the entire season for the Canes? *expletive* no!

I went with the 7-3 over the Habs.

Maybe the seizure was the key to Weekesie's play at the beginning of the season, and the concussion reversed that. Have we found a secret? :D

I voted for Detroit, because the Canes always come alive against those guys and it's very exciting to watch.

I'm going to say the Detroit game, even though I'm a Wings fan... The place was totally rocking and I had a great time. It was the game that converted me to a Canes fan. Hlavac scoring a hat trick the night they gave away hats was priceless. I must admit seeing all the Canes fans so happy was pretty cool too. And I got to see some drunks almost fighting after hte game :D

Great atmosphere, so much fun, even though the team I came supporting got blown out.

After that I thought there would be many more celebrations like that night. *Sob*

I said the detroit game. I was there and it was great to see the over-confident Wings fans get shut down ;) . The canes played great and Jan Hlavac got a hat trick, which fit in great with the free hats!! Although Weekes got hurt ( )...I must say the game was perfect, it had just enough drama  , just enough goals, the crowd was fabulous :spin: , and we won!!!

Detroit, detroit, detroit. We were actually in fla during that game at a tampa bay lightning game and they kept announcing the score and the fans would go nuts when detroit scored and moaned when we caught up and won! the funny thing is, they seemed to care more about the hurricanes and how they did than their own team that was beating the canucks that night. :)
