During the Wings/Oilers game he just revealed his list.
He stated that the whole Rangers team is overpaid but then broke down his list.
5. Vincent Damphousse
4. J.S. Giguere
3. Brindy
2. Olaf Kolzig
1. Pierre Turgeon
Maybe this should have been in Other NHL Talk, but not sure.
Thoughts?

How about the 5 most overpaid broadcasters?
5. Barry Melrose
4. Barry Melrose
3. Barry Melrose
2. Barry Melrose
1. Barry Melrose
Honestly, though, Kolzig is the only one on there that I agree with. What about Bobby Holik? 43 points, almost 9 million dollars?
And CuJo... 8 million bucks for a 13-9-2 record and a 2.44 GAA?
Ray Whitney has 9 goals and he's getting 3 million dollars this year.
I know there are a lot that aren't necessarily top 5, but that list is INSANE

Agreed - the unibrow has to be on the Top 5 list. I love watching him suck, but he's taking his suckdom to the bank.

Melrose also said during the 1st intermission of the ESPN2 game that the "Canes were all working hard to get the traded out of Carolina". I don't let Barry's comments bother me, but considering they were showing Ronnie's milestone goal and decided to throw that quip in instead of acknowledging the accomplishment, it bugged me.

   ......He makes me sick... and I agree that he is the most overpaid broadcaster...... they shouldn't pay him a dime for running that mouth of his...   all he can think about is how much he loves kissing Red Wing ass........

He tends to favor pinstripe.. I think he wants to look like a gangster... If I wasn't such an animal lover, I would put a horse head in his bed.. better yet, how about Shanahan's head in his bed??? lmao
I love Barry and the only person I don't believe should be on that list is Kolzig. He pulls more than his fair share of the weight for a team that doesn't show up for him. The Rangers are massively overpaid, but not to be singled out. The entire league is overpaid. You shouldn't get paid more to knock a puck around than you would to perform brain surgery, sorry.

They're all trying to get traded? Then please explain to me, Francis, Wesley, Hill, Brindy, Hedican and a few others who have made it pretty clear that they don't want to be traded. Oh yeah, and how about the fact that Bates still has a condo here? Those hockey guys sure do seem to hate this town.....
Barry needs to learn when to shut the heck up and celebrate a guys achievement. What is really annoying is that he still calls Ron an unknown player or something to that extent. Anyone that claims to remotely follow hockey that hasn't heard of him and what a great player he is, isn't following hockey. Speaking of, does anyone that follows hockey like Melrose? The only reason he has credibility is because he coached a team with Gretzky on it.

Poor Brindy. I don't think he deserved to be "honored" with a spot on that top 5 list. I think he's a hard worker and a fantastic player. Melrose and his bunch have always and will always have a sore spot when it comes to our Canes, imo.

I think he means "underappreciated" which I've heard him say on several occasions. Barry's a huge fan of Ronnie's and I doubt there's any disrespect meant whatsoever. Truthfully, a layman could immediately say Gretzky or Yzerman if prompted to name a hockey player. Ronnie's just not at the forefront, regardless of his fantastic record, and I took that statement of Ron's obscurity to simply mean that Ron slips beneath a lot of peoples' radars.

Any player that can prove he can perform highly intricate internal surgery may make $20 million dollars and get a bumper sticker that says "Back up off me or I'll cut you, white meat!"

I can't stand Melrose. And he needs to get new material. He's used the line about everyone wanted to get traded out of Carolina before. Of course, when we were in the finals, he couldn't be complimentary enough. He is a greasy weasel and is the definition of bandwagoner
He probably does make legitimate points about the NHL and the teams, even the Canes, but I despise his two-faced self so badly that I can't even give him credit for those. And, bulletin to Barry: you're not funny.

I think Barry tailors his comments to his demographics. Sunday night he had rather nice things to say about us, last night he was going for the Detroit crowd. *shrug*
Having met a few hockey players and having met a few brain surgeons, I can tell you that generally I'd rather the hockey players be making the money. At least they are decent people. I haven't met a big time surgeon yet (and I've met a few) who seemed like a human being. IMO, no one needs $20 million a year.

I have to disagree with you here SHC. If someone is going to cut into my brain, I really want them to know what they are doing and if that means they get paid big money, then so be it. I've met a lot of doctors of all varieties who are very good people and very decent human beings. And I don't really care to be honest, if my surgeon has great people skills, as long as his surgical skills are high quality. I also don't think all hockey players (or any other group of people you can name) are decent people. And while I agree there is way too much money in sports, if the market allows you to make $20 million, then go for it. That doesn't mean you need it, it just means someone is willing to pay you that for your skills. If the market seeking your skills "only" pays $5 million or $50,000, then you have to go with that too.

Barry makes me laugh. I think he'd be funny out drinkin' a bar with the gang. He did start off saying the NY Rangers are all over paid as a team and his list was the "others". I feel bad for Brindy being on it, but when you look at his production this year I think Brindy himself would agree with the list.

So you think it's OK that teachers, those who are molding and teaching the next generation to run this country, only make $25,000 since that's the indication of how the market values their skills? (probably totally OT.....)
The nature of my profession is why I care what kind of a human being a surgeon is. Try calling one to tell him/her the prescription he/she wrote might kill his/her patient.....you'll want a decent human being. The majority of that comment was in jest anyway. Still think no one deserves $20 million per year....least of all doctors. You want a dr who is in it for the money or in it because he cares? I'll take the caring one any day. Anyway, this all goes back to my political ideas which would just be stupid to outline here.

I really like Barry Melrose. He isn't half as bad as some people say he is, he just made a negative comment about a hurricane player so he's automatically one of the many hockey equivalents to the devil.
I totally agree that Rod is overpaid. For a team like the hurricanes wanting to go younger and cheaper how much money should they spend on faceoffs and leadership? 3rd line grinders are pretty easy to come by....

I don't mind him. Sometimes I even find him amusing.
I was annoyed that he chose Ronnie's goal clip last night to talk about the Canes wanting to get the hell out of dodge rather than his milestone.
I do think he dropped that line after the game and mentioned the milestone during the NHL2Night broadcast.

I didn't say it's OK or that everyone who deserves to make more money doesn't, but I'm like you, I'm not outlining my ideas here. It's not the place. and in my profession, I work with and talk to doctors every day. there are some very kind and caring doctors out there who also make a lot of money. it's not mutually exclusive. it's also not an appropriate topic for this thread.

That's pretty much how I felt from the beginning so I'm not sure why you felt the need to tell me how great the doctors you know are and how everyone deserves to make what the market will pay to begin with. *shurgs* I thought we were joking with RIO's "commissioner for a day" dream and then suddenly it's all serious.

During intermission of the Wings and Oilers, Melrose did praise Ronnie when they showed games scores and said, as he always does, he is the most underrated player and a terrific guy. We don't take Melrose too seriously, he does makes us laugh though. He can be pretty witty. :D
I agree with Mookie, if you just looked at Roddy's stats this year, it does
appear his contract is high. However for those of us who have kept up with Roddy, we all know he's a hard worker and has had a rough time on and off the ice this year. He is loyal to this organization and I too hope he will be here for the long haul.
Ronnie doesn't like all the fuss over him so it's understandable he won't make any decisions until after the season is over. Hopefully he will feel good enough and still have a desire to be out on that ice for another year atleast but with the CBA looming and things not looking good, he just may want to make this his last year  .

Dang, you could pick a list of the top 5 over-paid players from the list of 25 highest paid. Of course, if you pick "The New York Rangers," does that count as one or 22?
Overpaid Canes? Well, it's tempting to pick on Rod, but he still delivers on face-offs...expensive face-offs, mind you, but he still delivers. We've just been hard pressed for anyone else to know what to do with 'em after he wins them!
Hey, Barry's amusing in a far less ugly way than Don, that's for sure. But Barry could take a few awards himself...
