I posted in 2 "Introductions" threads this afternoon. Later I received Topic Reply Notifications for both threads. I went to check them out, and found the ever popular "The topic or post you requested does not exist" staring me in the face. I then went to the thread directly to see my posts, as well as a good chunk of the thread was missing. What gives?

A DNS change to a new server just now propogated.

It was supposed to have happened 3 days ago, but VeriSign had been real slow.

Sorry about that, everyone, I just found out about it myself. It was supposed to have been transparent at like 3 am on Sunday morning...

This is only something one would notice with a message-board type site. For static content, no one would have noticed.

Whew glad it was something with the system and not my brain. With all that cement glue and smoking device talk in one of the threads, I thought I was having some kind of bad trip :crazy:

Apparently there are still hiccups with it.

There are actually 2 boards right now. The new one, at a xx.xx.xx.61 address and the old one at a xx.xx.xx.85 address.

For some reason the DNS info Verisign is pushing to all the different ISP's DNS servers is happening slowly, and seems to be going back and forth randomly.

Last night early in the evening at home I was on this board (61) on RR. Then a few hours later, it shifted back to the old one (85). I've been told by the host that once the DNS issues settle out, we'll all be on the new one, and he will merge all the posts from the old one here, including PM's.

It's strange, but it's something going on with Verisign.

Should resolve today or tomorrow.

ok, this is getting a little bit crazy. i'm surfing the boards here (and posting this message) through a freaking ANONYMIZER because i'm still getting the old board with like zero posts. i hate to complain, but it's truly annoying, especially since it seems like hardly anyone else is having the problem anymore (every time i visit, it says i'm the only one surfing the site). when will this be resolved?

All I kept getting today was the quiet board with zip posts...this is the first time in almost twenty hours I have been able to access this board. Needless to say, these problems are getting to be a bit tedious... :mad: :crazy:

Whenever your ISP gets the DNS updates resolved.

A quick and dirty explaination of DNS for those who don't know....

DNS stands for Domain Name Server, a technology used to convert annoying IP numbers (like 192.168.2.25, which is my computer's local IP) into usable names (like letsgocanes.com) so we can remember names and not numbers for sites. Each ISP (Internet Service Provider), usually runs their at least one DNS for their clients (if they're worth their salt, more than one). There are a lot of ISP's each running their own DNS so they get the names and matching IP numbers from another source. When you register (or change) the IP of the site, you can change it with your registrar immediately, but since your ISP doesn't constantly update with them constantly, you must wait for the change to filter down to whenever your ISP decides to do an update.

The way the host has changed servers this time was to create a copy of the site's code onto the new machine while leaving the old one connected to the old IP. This way, you will get a site, although it may not be the most current. On static sites (such as information only pages) you would not notice the difference, but with this site, you notice a large difference.

One other problem that could happen is if your computer is keeping a copy on it's hard drive of the old DNS information, for quick access. If this is the case, you need to clear out the old information before it will check for the new.

I dunno....the game thread right now is showing 4 pages, even though there are really only 3 pages. When I click on the '4' it says "No Posts Exist for This Topic." Is this related, or just some kind of random bug?
