View Full Version : Hello from the "other" Carolina

Hi folks,
I'm in South Carolina, 25 mi. over the state line from Charlotte. I've been a Canes fan since the second season in Greensboro. Ironically, I used to live in Connecticut, but I never paid much attention to the Whale while I was there. I found out about this board in the context of a discussion on the ch.com board -- someone was complaining about things over there and someone else responded that things were much better at letsgocanes.com ;)
My pet peeve these days is that only about half the Canes games that are televised at all are seen in SC. As far as I know, the HD games aren't seen outside the Triangle at all. And Fox SportsNet South has two different feeds -- the NC version is the one most of you are familiar with, but they think South Carolina is a suburb of Atlanta and I primarily want to watch the Bulldogs, Hawks and Thrashers... Fortunately, after a few years of my mostly depending on the audio Webcast (he's past the blue line, he shoots, he...BUFFERING 2% PLEASE WAIT...), they at least got a radio affiliate in Charlotte last season. Great except on the nights when WNMX's Duke package takes priority.
Enough of a rant (on this topic ;) ) Nice to meet you all,
JohnH

:D Hey John! Let me be the first to welcome you, now that I'm the late patroller tonight lmao. Nice to meet a fellow Caniac as always! Welcome to our boards, they're a great place to be! :)
You think YOU got TV issues...well lookie here, I live way up here in the Detroit area so I had to get Center ice, which is STUPENDOUS if you wanna see more Canes games, I tell ya. And I know how streaming audio is on online radio...a pain in the keyster sometimes...I listen to it when I can't see the Canes games over my friend's house, and I want to smash her speakers. :) She wouldn't like that too much. GOSH I ramble too much, must skitter off and quell that bad habit temporarily lol
But hey join in all our hockey banter! Mucho fun! And welcome again! You're among friends.

Welcome! You'll find you aren't the only South Carolinian in these parts. I always laugh at the hockey people who seem to think that "Carolina" is a state. There's two of us, by gosh!!
And you're right about those HD games. I only live an hour from Raleigh and I can't get them. And the worst part is that when it's on HD they black the game out on Center Ice. But, at least I live close enough to actually go!

It's funny because we all (including me) started there.. I came in all excited ready to talk about our Canes and all this bickering and player bashing was going on.. I was like WTF??? Then I found this nut house!! ;) :spin:

Welcome JohnH! Are you a night owl or early bird? I see you posted in the wee hours of the AM. I get like that too sometimes because the house settles down and I can get more done that way. :D

Welcome, welcome - I lived in Charleston for 14 years so that makes us practically relatives. :D Hint - if Rio dangles something sparkley- don't fall for it. Wave from the tree Mookie....

Welcome! We hope you enjoy your stay, and feel free to take advantage of our Continental Breakfast offer. One thing, though. RIO's trout-cicles are a thing of legend around the corporate offices of Immodium AD. So you may want to stay clear of them unless you'd like to spend the next few days in the bathroom suffering from intense delirium.

Welcome, JohnH! :)
The view from the tree is lovely this time of year. "What tree?" , you asked... Well, there's a structure around here called Tree Crotch Bridge. An insane little troll who monitors this board's posts and banishes certain folks to do time "under the bridge". I think getting stuffed in the crotch of the tree is akin to solitary confinement (not that I would know anything about it). Well, to make a long story short... you really should have read the Surgeon General's warning before entering this site.

Welcome, JohnH, if I do say so myself....
hello, john. look deeply into my eyes. you are growing veeeeery sleepy... you feel compelled to buy me shoes... tremendous amounts of shoes... and when you awake, you will remember nothing but a happy image of a bicycling midget waving at you and this will please you ridiculously.

A warm welcome to you John!! I am a fellow SCian, I lived in Florence for 21 of my young 26 (yea right) years, about 45-50 min from Myrtle beach. I would say you are somewhere around Rock Hill, am I right? :spin:
Anyway, great to have ya...kick up your feet and stay a while.. :D
