Very true Guyute, but he ain't Jaromir Jagr yet.
and he never will be. he might have the talent of Jagr, but I don't think he'll ever be the 'give me a quarter, I need something out of the ladies restroom machine' kinda player. (trying to keep it clean, but I'm sure you'll get the gist. heh)
yes, steady goaltending, and surprises by guys like Park is why they've forced a game 7. been a great series fo sho.

Jagr better be able to shoot, he is the highest paid player in the NHL this year! Nice cool $11,483,333/year isn't too shabby  (especially if you don't pay your taxes).

Man! The Avs are coming on strong so far in the OT....but Fernandez has held up well...so far Way to place a rebound! Maybe he can give a clinic in Carolina.

I made it through the first 2 periods and then had to sleep. I woke up a little later and turned on the TV only to see them drop the puck for OT!
Sweet goal by Burnette and nice postgame interview with him too.

Great, great finish to an excellent series. Jacques Lemairre's smiling face and polite clapping after the goal said it all. Minnesota showed up big time and let Colorado know they weren't going to go down without a fight. I can't believe this is the same series that Minnesota was nearly shut out in two back to back games at home! Unbelievable!

God, what a freakin' joke of a reporter. Homer, I can take... but geez.
After two playoff games, the Avs can barely hide their Wild contempt for this nuisance. And can anybody really blame them?
Minnesota does not belong on the same ice as the Avalanche.
The Wild is taking their unsightly uniforms and low-rent players back to Minnesota, where somebody actually likes them.
Wow... bunch of bull-pucky in my opinion. No team is that much better than any other in the NHL, and I just hate it when these "entitled" teams and/or their media spout their crap. Think this guy remembers when they were the lowly Nordiques and the laughingstock of the NHL? Moron.

Here's the final "Mailbag" thing in the Denver Post (Q&A w/the guy that covers the Avs).
http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36~11807~1354345,00.html
Here's a blurb about Bates...
Does Bates Battaglia qualify as Pierre Lacroix's biggest bust ever? I know Lacroix said we needed more grit for the playoffs, but right now I think he would have taken a couple more goals. Do you think the Avs will re-sign Battaglia when his contract is up or go for a banger with higher offensive potential. -- Brandon, Carrington, N.D.
Brandon: No, based on what he gave the team and what he cost, I think Theo Fleury was Lacroix's biggest bust. Chris Dingman probably gave the Avs more than Fleury did. But let's face it, the Battaglia trade didn't work out this year. He just wasn't fast enough to play on a line with Sakic and Steve Reinprecht. He didn't score any of those ugly goals in front of the net he was supposed to.
I didn't like the trade when it happened, and I like it even less now. Radim Vrbata is going to score 30-plus goals in this league, you watch. I do think Battaglia can be effective as a third-line grinder, ala Shjon Podein. That's probably where he should have been played all along, not asked to play with a guy like Sakic. I think he'll be re-signed for sure.

I guess maybe Bates is at some sort of crossroads as far as the role he's going to play in the NHL. I did a little search with google news and I have to admit that I found 2 other columnists saying less than flattering things about him in their season windup articles. I know that doesn't matter really, it's what the Avs think of him and do with him, but one of them even said he looked more he'd be more comfortable with a "plumber's wrench" than a hockey stick. Ouch. :eek2:
Teemu Selanne, with more than 400 NHL goals to his credit, is a veteran in the market for a winner. Selanne would make a much better wing man for Sakic than Bates Battaglia, who looks more natural with a plumber's wrench than a hockey stick in his hands.
Of course, most of what I read was an attempt to bash Pierre Lacroix (Avs GM) as much anything else. So who knows....

I think it was unfair to expect Bates to be a suitable linemate with Sakic.
Bates is most likely going to be a 3rd-liner. he has the grind, just not the scoring touch. yes, he has the ability to get a decent amount of goals... but only as a result of banging in front of the net. hence, put him on a grind line.
you can't expect dude to score with the regularity that someone on Sakic's like *should* be scoring. he's not that player.
if they wanted that player, they shouldve put Vrbata up there. :p

I agree. And all their lip-service when they took Bates was that they didn't want or need another scorer but someone physical who can create some room. So why he is being criticized now for not scoring is beyond me.http://www.tridead.net/canes/images/smilies/shrug.gif

The only criticism I have heard has been in the press. The guy who wrote the comments on the plumbers wrench was the same idiot who said the Wild had no business on the same ice with the Avs, etc., etc. I think most of his writing is just to stir the pot.
Then you have to keep in mind that the Avs fans are very disappointed with the 1st round outcome and are looking for somewhere to vent.

It's taken me a little bit to figure out what I want to say here. I am disappointed that Bates has to yet again deal with negative press, poking, jabbing and making fun of his style of play. IIRC the Avs got out of him what they traded for. I guess the media needed a scapegoat, again, to try to explain away the Avs early exit from the playoffs.

Yeah, he pretty much had a bullseye on his head when he got there. If the Avs didn't succeed in the playoffs, he would be the scapegoat. Take this media crap with a grain of salt.

I agree batesb. I think if we all of a sudden we had to deal with the large market press overnight, we'd all be puking (I know some of you already do at the N&O). We don't even have a regular "columnist" writing about the Canes (which is fine by me).
Like I said above, what I read seemed as much 2nd guessing the GM etc. Sometimes all these post-season things crack me up - there is only ONE team that can win the Cup, but that doesn't mean that every other playoff team made some hellacious mistake that if corrected/avoided would have ensured them of winning the jug.
