This is going to be a great series... or should be at least. I like the Blues a lot. Unfortunately, I think the 'Nucks will probably take this one. Too bad, because I didn't figure either of these teams would be 1 and done'ers.

But, Vancouver is firing on all cylinders... I don't see much chance of the Blues getting 4 over on them.

should be good though.

I'm looking for the Canucks to take this one as well. How close the series will be depends on how big of an impact Pronger is able to make. The defense will need to be stellar as the Blues' goalie situation has been far worse than ours. It'll be interesting to see how Osgood fairs in game one....

My prediction:
Canucks get the series win 4-2

yep, the Pronger factor will be a huge one. personally, I don't think he's going to be the Pronger the blues will need to get out of this one alive.

Nucks in 5. I can't wait for this series. I'm not big on cheering for individual players but I honestly wish the best for Malik and will be rooting for Vancouver all the way. May the big guy get his name on the Cup this year. :)

I'm SO psyched about Vancouver! I really, really hope they can take the West (but I'm pretty skeptical about it).

What's weird to me is that somehow I block St Louis out of my mind. They have made the playoffs for what....26 straight years or something but somehow I forget they exist....except for Al of course. So I really have no clue how good Vancouver's chances are. Hope they are good though!

I sure hope that the 'Nucks can live up to everybody's playoff expectations. St. Louis has postseason talent and experience; this is their 24th straight year in the playoffs.

I'm just not so sure that this is gonna be as easy for them as some people think.

The big question is, can Cloutier play playoff hockey consistantly? I don't think so. He'll be nothing more than a mediocre goaltender. We all know of the great first line the Nucks have...but can the others generate enough offense to keep up? No. Naslund and Bertuzzi will be excellent, but not good enough to propel themselves to the second round. St Louis is a much better rounded team. With Pronger back on D and better goaltending from Chris Osgood the Blues will take this series. St. Louis in 7.

I hope the Canucks win and that somebody roughs up Pronger in the process.

......St. Louis in 7.

That's exactly what I was thinking. (Didn't want to put St. Louis in 7 before anybody else though, LOL.)

Cloutier just doesn't strike me as a playoff-goalie; but I guess he'll get a chance to prove me wrong.

As long as Cloutier doesn't allow any goals from Guam this time I think the team should survive to make it to the next round. He was SO confident and strong in games 1 and 2 of Vancouver's first round matchup with Detroit last year. Though he stopped he stopped thinking of that shot the moment it went in, I think it must have stuck with him..... I'm hoping he's stellar in net. It may come down to a battle of the goalies if Mcginnis starts clicking and Pronger gets it together and returns to his Norris trophy winning ways but I still think Vancouver will be able to pull this one out. I'm hoping Cloutier is up to the task...

Clouts had a knee injury. He's been a little slow to bounce back from it.

As for the Canucks....

Yesterday when I was listening to the game over the internet, I caught the very tail end of something that Markus Naslund had said to the crowd after the loss to the Kings. I didn't know what he'd said until I read this quote in a friend's online journal:

"Thanks guys. As you can see we're really upset here we had a goal to win our own division here and we had it in our own hands and we... we choked, but we’re going to change that. We're going to play a lot better in the playoffs I promise you that."

They all have something to prove in these playoffs. Markus' promise sounds like a tall order, but I think they'll do it.

If the Canucks get by the Blues I think they might be able to go all the way (God and Cloutier willing). This'll be tough for 'em, though, as St. Louis is probably the most physical Western Conference team. A great one, I can't wait.

Just like Turby and I said before the game: Is Cloutier a playoff goaltender?

The Blues have the experience, and the Nucks are quite young. Big problems for the Nucks in that regard.

But even I must say 6-0 was way more than expected.

Yea, I would never have suspected that they'd whoop 'em this bad. For those who saw the game....was it as lopsided as the score?
Where was it I heard...Cloutier was supposed to backup a guy who'd only played 5 or 6 NHL games because his injury was so bad...The Nucks can be a contender with a good goalie but Cloutier and a rookie won't cut it in the playoffs.

I missed what the studio guys said about ol' Johnny when they did the tease about 10 minutes before 10pm. I think Melrose said something first and then Buccigross said something about the Canes not being in it - and the he said something that I didn't make out and they all stopped talking. It was like he lost his train of thought!

Anyway, Johnny Forslund's looking dapper tonight! ;)

Anyway, Johnny Forslund's looking dapper tonight! ;)

Both Osgood and Cloutier are wearing the old-school cages...they must be the only two who wear that style in the league...even Irbe's looks like a newer design.

They seem to be working, though...

Vancouver has done a great job of crawling up inside Dallas Drake's head. He's been in the box three or four times. Now if they can just SCORE on another of these power plays!

1-0 Vancouver 6:30 left in the 2nd.

Potvin had to open his mouth and say "shutout" a few minutes ago and now Cloutier gets scored on. Jerk. You'd think he'd know....but then he seemed sorta biased towards St Louis all night. Hope Engbloom is a better partner for John than Denis has been.

Stupid penalty by Malik too.....fun to watch but stupid. He's played very well though. Hope they can hold St Louis off for one more minute!!!

And they do! Woo Hoo!!! Good job Canucks! Wish Cloutier would have gotten that shutout though....he deserved it!

though apparently I'm in the minority, for the fact that I like the Blues.

then again, I can't see how they could be called thugs (as a team). drake, yeah, that I can see... although I did miss that hit, so I can't say anything about that. sounded pretty damn ugly tho.

But Demitra is one of my faves in the league. dude has mad skills.
I tossed around on this series a lot... who to pick to come out alive. I like the Blues more... but thought the Nucks would do it. I guess it comes down to the wire.

hopefully the Blues get the flu out of their dressing room. I'd like to see both teams at 100% to finish this up.
speaking of 100%- rumors that Al might make it back for game 7.

You aren't alone. The Blues are probably my fav team in the Western Conference....though I don't really follow them religiously.
They may have their thug....but it's a team of good guys like Doug Weight and Al Macinnis.
I thought the Blues would take the series in 7 solely based on goaltending...while the number of games is right, Cloutier has held up better than I thought. I can't wait til game 7...should be a great matchup.

Osgood accuses Cloutier of diving
The Canadian Press
4/21/2003

VANCOUVER (CP) - Chris Osgood baited the hook Monday but Dan Cloutier wasn't biting.

Osgood, the St. Louis Blues goaltender, accused his Vancouver Canuck counterpart Cloutier of taking dives to draw penalties during the teams' NHL Western Conference quarter-final playoff. The Canucks have battled back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the best-of-seven series 3-3 with Game 7 Tuesday night (10:30 p.m. EST, CBC) at G.M. Place.

"He's been diving," Osgood said without hesitation following the St. Louis practice.

"He's been diving a bit.

"I'm not going to dive and if a guy hits me after I stop the puck I'm not going to flail myself back. It's not the way the game is supposed to be played. Stand in there and take your shots and your hits."

Cloutier, who celebrates his 27th birthday Tuesday, chuckled when told of Osgood's rant.

"I'm not going to comment on that," he said with a grin. "I don't pay attention to the newspaper and media and I didn't hear anything about it. It doesn't bother me at all."

Osgood was even more vocal Sunday night in St. Louis after the Blues were defeated 4-3 in Game 6.

"You're constantly getting hit, slew-footed and they're not calling it," he told a St. Louis newspaper.

"We're getting it all against us and the other guy is down there diving. It's ridiculous. I can dive too. I can fake like I've been hit. But I'm not going to."

Of the two goaltenders Cloutier appeared to take the most abuse Sunday. The Blues' Eric Boguniecki was called for goaltender interference after crashing into Cloutier.

During the game Osgood, obtained from the New York Islanders at the trading deadline, was giving a slashing penalty for whacking Vancouver's Matt Cooke.

That call still had Osgood shaking his head Monday.

"I tapped him a little behind the legs," said Osgood, who won two Stanley Cups while with the Detroit Red Wings.

"It was more or less a love tap than anything," said Osgood.

"To get a penalty for that I might as well do something 10 times worse."

Cooke chortled over Osgood's version of history.

"My leg still hurts," he said.

Canuck forward Trent Klatt has also felt Osgood's wrath. He said the Blues goaltender tried to head butt him during Game 5.

"I can show you a few marks and they're not little hearts on my legs," said Klatt.

"It's just part of the game. There's people diving all over the place. It's just not on our team."

Canuck defenceman Mattias Ohlund was still mystified with the interference call he was given Sunday after the Blues' Shjon Podein dropped like he'd been shot when Ohlund touched him. The penalty resulted in a St. Louis power play goal.

"He fell down very easily," said Ohlund.

"It was a big goal for them. You don't want that to be a factor late in the game."

You can tell Osgood is an ex Wing with his whining about diving while he is whacking at everything in sight out there. *L* Once a Wing, always a WingDing, I guess. Old habits die hard. :D

ha, you're right about that, Cool Hand Luke. i thought the same thing -- i guess he learned from the best! :D

there's been a ton of whining so far -- doesn't anybody credit the other team when they get beat anymore? even with all the no-calls in the toronto-philly series, i haven't heard any flyers whining this bad...

Two teams come back from 3-1 deficits to win in game 7! How amazing is that? The Leafs, the Wings and the Avs all out in the first round. MAN!!! I had no luck with the Canes this season but it's coming back triple fold in the playoffs!!! Hope there is some left for the Canes next season!

Now that I've calmed down (and gotten some sleep)....

Wow.

This series was very draining for me, seriously--especially when things got to 3-1 St. Loo. I wish I could describe how I felt after the game last night. It was just amazing--I haven't felt this way since we made it out of the first round last season. No, check that--I haven't felt this way since we made it out of the SECOND round last season. I mean, wow.

I'm just so happy for Marek right now. Absolutely giddy, even.

NANDEJ JIM TO, HARRY! :) :spin: :spin: :spin: :spin: :spin:
