Hehe. Well, if any first round matchup has the potential to end in a sweep this year I'll say it's this one. Ottawa is absolutely on fire and has been for the majority of the season. The Islanders on the other hand finished the season very poor. I think the only thing that will prevent this series from becoming a blowout is Snow standing on his head and Yashin converting repeatedly. So, my prediction is that this series will go 4-1 in favor of Ottawa. The Islanders will get a win somewhere in the middle of the series.

I agree, folgers. I think the Isles will be lucky to win a game in this series. I'm sure their fans are hoping Yashin doesn't pull his annual playoff disappearing act.

Ottawa in 4.

Maybe the Isles will put up enough of a fight for Ottawa to take it in 5.

3 of the last 4 Stanley Cup teams have been the winners of the President's Trophy, which shows that the regular season DOES matter at least some.

I think that despite Ottawa's previous playoff flopitude, they can manage this series; I don't think the Islanders play was terrible inspiring this year: 83 points isn't THAT great; and toward the end they didn't show that much drive.

You know. I thought the Wild really bored me, but the Senators are a close second. They may be at the top of the league but they play the most limp-wristed hockey I've ever witnessed. The Islanders are no great shakes either, but I hope they win against Ottawa, strictly for the liveliness factor. Truthfully speaking, I hope they BOTH get flushed....

Wow, and we thought the Canes had it bad for the locker room situation at the RecZone, guess the Sens don't even have one at their practice facility. ;)

Back to topic, though - boring hockey or not, i want to see the Senators crush the Islanders like bug. Ya$hin is a piece of moldy, malodorous monkey crap, and nothing would be finer than to see the Senators put an exclamation point on the statement that he isn't the be-all-end-all he thinks himself to be.

opposed to Rio... I have really enjoyed watching the Sens decimate most teams this season. I think this is one of the few matchups that *could* be a sweep.

Isles are going to get their hats handed to them... quick fast in a hurry.

This is precisely why the Senators choke in the playoffs. They have regular season intensity. That is not even CLOSE to the intensity you need for the playoffs.

TORONTO (AP) -- Islanders forward Eric Godard was suspended for one game by the NHL on Thursday for high-sticking Ottawa's Chris Neil during their playoff opener.

He will miss Game 2 of the first-round series in Ottawa on Saturday.

With 32 seconds left in the Islanders' 3-0 victory Wednesday night, Godard was assessed a double minor for high-sticking. Neil had hit Islanders star Alexei Yashin earlier in the game.

The Islanders are basically coughing up this game. Stupid penalties. If you give Ottawa a 5 on 3 they are obviously gonna score. 3-0 Sens....but it's only the 2nd period so you never know....the Isles could come back. But there is only 4:30 left in the 2nd and the Sens still have 2:30 left 5 on 4.

Ottawa's crowd is amazing too.

Go Sens! Man, I really wanted to see that game (anything would have been better than the Patrick Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh love fest  ). Oh well, the highlight reels were a nice tease anyway. :spin:

The only reason I want the Senators to win is because of Scatchard's comments about the Canes before the playoffs last year.

And Ottawa sends the Islanders to the golf course! Wish they had bothered to televise a few more games from this series. Hope Ottawa continues playing well! Go Sens!! (at least until I see who you are playing next  )

took Ottawa a couple of games to really get going, but I think they're almost on track now. too bad they'll probably have about a week off though.

there's too much speculation to be done as to who will be playing who...

but, if the Bolts win, and Philly wins...
Philly will have a chance to repay Ottawa for last year.

and Jersey would draw the Bolts.

two very very tight series to go in the east though... lotta hockey left.
