So, folks, we've got 10 points left to earn...... any predictions?
Shall we be able to earn another point or two to extend that road-point record to 12 games?
Kurka got sent back to the B-team, so I'd imagine Willy's ready to step back on the ice.
Check out the pre-game skate (http://www.carolinahurricanes.com/news/news.asp?articleid=1219) for a few more tidbits!!
OK.... off to a rowing regatta...... have a great day, everybody!!
LET'S GO 'CANES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paper said Kurka would come back if Willy wasn't ready by tonight...
Strong game tonight. Play for pride. Build for next season, all that good stuff. Go out and give the fans a good show.

played pretty good the other night. Now all that is left is to hurt NYI and their playoff position/hopes.
This should be a good game, since we've turned into a road team of late, which is great. Finish on a high note. I would like for them to finish at or above .500, which is within reach.

I was looking at the standings and laughing to myself. If we won the remaining two we have against them, Buffalo is right on the Islander's heels, only 6 points behind. Lord knows we couldn't unseat them and take their spot and all, even though we tried....But wouldn't it be hella fun if we could at least make them suffer and be part of their demise getting dropped out of the playoffs? :D LOL...it would be more fun (almost said "funner", Stompy... lol...I'm usually better with the grammar/spelling...I used to be the Spelling champ in school! lol) to see Buffalo in the playoffs then the Islanders anyway. It would make it all kinda interesting.
BUT I'm excited. I agree with everything Turbulence said. Go out and do all that good stuff. But I want a win, and even though I'll be watching *jinx approaching* lol.. It's a win I'd BETTER get, too! OR ELSE!!

I wonder what it's gonna be like for Lavs. I'm sure it has to be kind of exciting to go back for the first time, but then again, it might not be. It's a shame we couldn't win the first time we played them, but fortunately, it's a road trip. Go Canes! This is definitely a must win for team pride, and Lavs pride.

Did we play them twiice already before this one, or is this the second game against the Islanders? Because I went on NHL.com or The Hockey News, or some site, and they said the season series between us two teams was tied. I could be blind...
But yes, this is especially a must win for us AND Lavs. Let's make it great all around with a win and (yes it's mean, but...) help spoil the Isles' playoff hopes! Go Canes...and Sabres! lol

Yeah, we've played them twice this year, but only once with Lavs. The first time we shut em out 2-0.

A win tonight could help us solidify the "this team is headed in the right direction" theory. The Isles have been playing solid hockey lately. To me, they're a lot like the Devils. They lull you to sleep and then the next thing you know, they've pounced on you for a goal. Several broadcasters have stated lately that everyone at the top is fighting for the #1 spot so they can have a breather against the Isles in the first round. I don't see that. They don't beat themselves very often.

Weekes dodged a bullet there...he seemed a bit slow getting back in position and the net was gaping.

if you're talking about the penalty that put us down 3 on 5, it was a high sticking call on Hedican and there was no doubt about it.
the 2nd goal deflected off Hill's skate. not Weekes' fault. I mean, I criticize him on a fairly regular basis, but sometimes it's just not his fault.
and DiPietro wanders around like he's looking for spare change on the ice. He makes Weekes and Irbe look like they are glued to the crease.

nah referring to the goalie interference call that one was bogus, how you call a guy whom was nowhere near the goalie and yea he did push the guy but i mean come on their was a ton of ice between him aind the goalie he coulda fell another way.
yea i posted way to soon on the weekes goal that wasn't his fault I saw him not move and got pissed.

ok weekes...great just great, god needs to save weekes :( There really wasn't much he could do about that. I'm impressed that we did that well. 15 shots...in Hedican's 4 minutes is what I think they said. I'll take that any day.

I didn't see the goalie interference call. I'll have to catch it on the DVR. I got caught up in the OK State/St. Joe's basketball game for the final 2 minutes!

I believe that's a 12 game road point streak! I'll take it!!
Although I have nothng against them it might be kinda nice to see the Islanders miss the playoffs by 2 points. At least Lavi got some revenge.
Great to see Rourke and Svoboda finally get some payoff for their good play. Now, just get Staaly one!!
Heeheee. We're cleaning out the TiVo and just watched Hedican's OT goal over Ottawa, again. Good times. :D

i mean he puhed him yea but that should be interference maybe they just called the wrong penalty, I think goalie interference should be called only if the puck goes in the net, cause when isee that penaty called they call it at the dumbest times.

I thought Bret's high stick was pretty ugly. Did he get two because Parrish bled or just because it was flagrant? Tripp kept babbly about how it was not intentional, but it was certainly very careless.
Nice win fo sho!
BTW, I was in the car for the first 10 minutes and I'm not sure if this was mentioned on TV, but Chuck was very, very impressed that they put up a "Thank You" on the Jumbotron to Laviolette for his 2 years of service to the Isles and put the camera on him. He said the arena gave polite applause. Chuck was so impressed that he kept talking about it for about 30 seconds, lol. Nice.
Oh, found this in the AP article:
The Islanders saluted Laviolette during a first-period stoppage by flashing his picture on the scoreboard over the message ``Thank You Peter.'' ...
Wow, this looks painful just to be IN that position, let alone after a high stick.

wierd, I thought Weekes looked good. His glove hand seemed faster tonight than normal. 36 saves out of 38 shots doesn't seem too shabby to me especially with all the powerplay shots, but I guess he could have done better.

Since I'm the only one who mentioned it and didn't recant my statement......I thought he looked shaky out there for about a 5 minute period. It was a pretty off-the-cuff, middle of the game comment not some kind of huge, all-incompassing statement about his overall game. You'd think I'd have learned by now to keep my opinions about Weekes to myself. They always seem to get blown-up to something way bigger than what I intended.

AWWW that picture is adorable....
and Heh....Tommy, at least I know now it's not me that's the jinx. :D I got to see the game, and damn happy that I did! Great, well played game! The only thing I despised was, because it was the Islander's broadcast, the announcer's were biased (but WAAYy overly) and too many camera views of the Islanders. EH. All they talked about was how Carolina was outplayed...HELLO??? If they looked at the scoreboard, obviously the Canes outplayed the ISLES. The Canes were on their feet the whole night and were lookin great! :)
I was surprised Weekes was in goal, but he did a good job...came up big when we needed him to, especially with Ryan and Hedi in the box....Great job to Weekes. And Rourke! Congrats to him for the first NHL goal! :D
Nice to see Lavvy get his win against the Isles, even though they were VERY classy in thanking him on the jumbotron, that was very nice to see. :spin:
I was seriously biting my nails there near the end...I don't think there's anything left of them! Everything made me nervous...I was like "please hang on to the lead, PLEASE hang on to the lead.." But this was great! GO CANES, fun game!

I don't disagree with you SHC that there were a few minutes there where Weekes looked shaky. Fortunately, the defense wasn't shaky (Hill's skate deflecting the puck not counted ;) ) and he seemed to gain confidence throughout the game. I remember thinking that he wasn't way off the way he is some games, because he was able to make some saves that he would never make in his off games. when that puck clanged off the post and then was sitting in the crease........that would have been a goal on one of those off nights where he is so off he can't pull himself together.
I just want us to have some depth at goal and develop some goalies (besides Ward) in our system. Not to play at the NHL level now, but to know we have some continuity at that position.

Great Game. If only we played like that 2 months ago, like the Lightning did
Any word on Vasicek??? I saw on my Fantasy league that he is hurt and is done for the rest of the season. No info though on what the injury was. Looked like it might have happened last night???
4 games to go. Finish on a hot streak and knock the Isles out of the playoffs.

I have to agree with you about him not seeing the initial shot on that goal, he clearly never did. I also feel like if our D hadn't bailed him out a time or two, the outcome of this game could've been disastrously different. All in all, I was pleased with the way this one turned out.
