Anyone notice that there have been an unnecessaily large amount of skate related injuries lately?

First there was Recchi? I think he was the Philly player we were talking about that got slashed by a skate...

But I was flipping back and forth between the Canes game and other games during commercials (cuz I'm col like that :p lol) and I happened upon the Caps game one channel up. A ref had fallen after blowing the whistle I believe and he was bent over another player, and all of a sudden, when a Caps player--dunno which one, and sorry my facts are so off, I was so taken by what was happening to the ref) he threw his leg up, and just SLICED the ref under the ear. My first thought was "Geez watch your leg there, you're gonna chop off his ear!" he view was pretty disgusting. reminds me of those talks about Malarchuk that we were having a while back. UGHH....the ref was gushing everywhere and you could see it before he finally went off to go get stitches and they went with 3 refs for practically the rest of the game.

I dunno It just seems like there's so much going on lately, with skate related injuries...so unfortunate too. IMO the refs should have better protection, or actually SHOULDN'T be on the ice at all. So many times they get injured or affect the play on the ice because they're in the line of action. Horrible horrible stuff.
