View Full Version : Jobs At The Eye

(Note: I decided to put this under General/Hurricanes Discussion since it regards the Canes' The Eye stores, but if one or more mods feel that this belongs on another board, I understand and I apologize in advance.)
As most of you may know, I have been out job hunting for sometime. It has been a *tough* job market out there, and it doesn't look to be improving anytime soon. Well, as most of you also know, I have had my eyes and heart set on a job at The Eye for sometime, and would love to obtain that sometime before next season. Therefore, I was wondering if somebody here knows of a person/some people I can contact regarding jobs at The Eye. I figure with the summer coming up, there will be some people graduating from college and freeing up some positions, hopefully opening up the door for me to get my most desired job.
Those with *very important* information please e-mail me at caroline@hurricanesfan.com. Thank you in advance. :)

I always thought that would be my dream summer job...but I doubt they'd hire a slimy teenager with no work experience. :spin:

Well now, if nobody would hire a slimy teenager with no work experience, then there would be a lot of slimy 20-somethings with no work experience out there, right?
Never turn down the chance to take a chance, eh?

Are you wanting to work at the RBC Center Eye store or any one (like at Crabtree)? Probably for the RBC Center you would apply online through the RBC Center site. Have you looked at that site yet? I know my brother applied for a job online there and it took a few weeks, but he got a call from them. The site lets you know what jobs are available. Sorry i don't have a better connection for you...sometimes thats really what you need:) Good luck. PS-It can't hurt to just show up and ask to talk to a manager to see if there are any openings.

I need a part time job too. Don't think I could work for any Canes entities though, since I run this site. Don't want any unwanted attention... ;)

Thanks for the info NeedToWin. The times I've asked at The Eye about jobs (And there have been plenty of them...much to the annoyance of the same person working at the Triangle Town Center location I visit quite a bit. ;)), I have gotten either a simple "No.", a "We don't have any openings right now, please check back again.", or answers that are along the lines of "Look, we don't have any openings. Would you PLEASE quit asking?!" (The latter has been the norm for the same guy who's been working during the last five or so times I've visited the Triangle Town Center location.). One thing that would definitely help is if I went to the other locations as often as I go to the TTC one. I really hate bugging the TTC location workers as often as I have...but I really can't help it with it being the closest location. Oh well, if what the dude I've seen the most at the TTC Eye has told me is true, it doesn't matter which location you try to get a job through because supposedly, you alternate between the three locations, like one day you work at the TTC, the next at Crabtree, etc.
Anyway, that leads me to thanking you again NeedToWin about telling me about the RBC Center's online job application form. I've yet to look at it, but it would be wonderful if you can apply for The Eye through that. And if I can't manage to get a job with The Eye, a job at the RBC is not bad either, and another idea I've been entertaining for sometime. Looks like I got a site and job app to scope out tonight though...once again, thanks NTW! :)

No, no, don't sweat it. We all know how hard it is to get jobs (believe me.... try getting one as a girl in the automotive/diesel field that doesn't require a cut off shirt and fake breasts.... *grumble*). Just take a deep breath and then go run around the house sing-shouting "You're not the boss of me, NO!!" until you feel calmer. :)

I think I'm missing what it is you're trying to do here SB.. ?
Are you just trying to find someone here who can get you an "in" ?
Have you gone in and applied? talked to the manager?
just curious. If it were me I wouldn't wait around hoping to get a contact. I'm sure there are lots of people around here that wouldn't mind a part time job at the Eye. you're probably going to need to go grab the bull by the horns.

Yes I have Guyute...the times I've been to The Eye, they've either been too busy to ask (The RBC locations), or the manager's nowhere to be seen or found (The Triangle Town Center and Crabtree locations...as a matter of fact, the guy I've caught at the TTC location the last five times I've been there has been the only one there to close the store, and he certainly isn't the manager.). Also, they don't really carry applications...as much as I've personally asked, you'd think I would at least get an application to fill out so I could at least get on a list for when they have openings by now. I've asked if they have applications only to be met with simple "No."s and/or blank stares. Still, I'm going to keep trying asking whenever I go to any location of The Eye...and not to worry, I'm entertaining other jobs too:

SB, just a word or two of advice...
Since it is the end of the hockey season, I doubt that anywhere hockey-related (RBC or the Eye) is looking for temp/perm help. You can check here: http://www.rbccenter.com/jobs/partime.asp like I just did, and it says jobs available: 0. You should probably continue your quest in August or so when they are gearing up for the new season.
In the meantime, as a fellow job-hunter, you can try monster.com, trianglehelpwanted.com, or just do a google search on job sites. This forum is probably not the best place to go job-hunting, actually. Since people here (with a few exceptions) have not met you, they might not be willing to go out on a limb for someone that they haven't met. Being a reference is serious business.
Some other job-hunting ideas would be to drive around and look for help wanted signs, or wander around the mall with the same objective in mind. Also, dressing nicely while looking around can help your image and first impressions mean a lot.
I hope that some of this helps, and good luck with your job hunt!

you do realize...
A) how sweet a job that is that I'm sure it's Very rare that someone leaves it.
B) they only really need one person per shift, per store, meaning... Very few openings. (if you worked there, and knew they only had one person per shift... would you want to give someone an application?)
C) if I had an in, I'd probably use it, just for the fact of huge gear discounts and commissions.... I'm sure many folks are the same way.
my point being, the job market Sucks.... let alone if you have your heart set on one of the best non-professional jobs there are out there.
The "other jobs" you're entertaining.... you mentioned the RBC. so, you either want to work at the RBC, or The Eye..? that right? http://tridead.net/canes/images/smilies/eyebrow.gif
you may need to expand your options. with no BBall, no Hockey... there really aren't going to be a whole lot of jobs at the RBC...

you know what Id do? Id show up every day and just hang out there and act like you work there, help customers, clean off the clothing racks, staighten up, then if an opening comes up, theyll be like "you know whod be perfect for this job? That crazy lady who hangs out here 8 hours a day and pretends to work here" And voila, you got a job at the eye!

LOL!
Y'know Moonstomper, if it weren't for that pesky, time-consuming thing called college, I'd be doing what you suggested right now. ;)

This time of year ...the Eye is dead..I have been there in the summer and nothing is going on...the one person that was working in there was in a stupor..so I wouldn't look for any hiring being done til at least August...if then..

Actually Mona, this time of year, especially during the summer is one of the best times to ask because of the possibility of a worker or two leaving because of graduation from college.
Anyway, thank you for your feedback. :)

you know, that hanging around bit didn't score Stompy a job at Victoria's Secret like he'd hoped, so I wouldn't go with his advice. It didn't help that he wore a bra on his head with the cups flipped up shouting "Hey! Hey everybody! I'm Mickey Mouse!"
Stompy is unstable. You'd do well not to listen to him, FC.

I really don't mean to be rude here, but do you honestly think that any of us can get you a job at the Eye? I just don't understand the constant bumps.

No, I do not expect posters like you to get me a job at The Eye, Kat. I simply started this post in hopes of getting the attention of someone associated with The Eye or a similar job. Sorry for any confusion and such...but the search for a job these days sometimes requires desperate measures, and I figured there was no harm in asking for/about a job here...
I promise this to be the last "frequent bump"...as of now, I'll only bump this every one-two weeks until I hear from someone or get a job, be it at The Eye, RBC, or somewhere none-Canes related. Again, I apologize for any confusion I've caused...

Actually, if you've already put in an application it would be a lot more effective to call and inquire again about the status of the application.

Rather than dealing with *bumps* and replies to said *bumps*, i've locked this thread.
Please don't start another thread of this nature. There's nobody here who can help anybody get a job at The Eye, and the people at The Eye aren't going to hire anybody based on a message board posting.
