View Full Version : Today's "Mo Monday"

I was surprised that they had "Mo Monday" on 96rock today, so I only caught the end of it. A caller asked about next season. Mo stated that our team in no longer built for a purely forechecking game since we have exchanged some of our toughness for speed. He anticipates less dumping and chasing and more skating the puck in. Woo-hoo!

Granted, I'm cynical enough to admit that I have seen us revert to our old ways after claiming to have changed...but a gal can dream that maybe Mo has seen the light, right? ;)

At least he's admitting that there could possibly be changes in style. That's a start, I suppose. If anyone heard the rest of it and can post some highlights that would be great.

I heard that supposedly, John Forslund came on this morning and said an "elegy" for the season. If he did that, does anyone by any chance have the transcript? Thanks in advance. :)

Gosh, I'd never looked at it like that; 22 wins out of 82 games. You know? You look at the record and see 22-43-11-6, but you never see EIGHTY TWO games and TWENTY TWO wins.

LOL; sorry, that just caught my attention. As you were.

Even more so when you think that we didn't win 75% of our games.

So long, 2002-03.

And it is about time we changed our system. We need fast skaters who can score...we can't rely on goaltending alone and win every game 1-0. Maybe Coach Mo is finally realizing this...

wow.

just out of curiosity, is "anticipate" is your word or his? not that it matters, but for some reason, i can so hear him in my head saying that and it irritates me to no end. like it kills him to try a different approach and he's reluctantly doing it only as a last resort. arrgh.

Hyena--I don't recall if he actually used the word anticipate or if that was my interpretation. He is not abandoning dump and chase altogether--he mentioned that this years playoff teams dump the puck about 40 times per game. (I can't believe they actually keep track of those stats) He said that we needed to do it less than we do now and next year's team should be better suited to that change.

I'll believe it when i see it.

You know, i love watching Mo interviews, because he always comes across as a great guy, and he's fun to listen to. Unfortunately, however, being a great coach and a great speaker are two entirely different things, and i'm far from convinced that he's the best man for the job.

Yes, he has his strengths, but he tends to fall into the same traps over and over. Dump and chase, defensive shell, no 4th-line ice time, poor goaltender management, poor motivational 'tactics'. Not saying i'd be any better, of course, but then i'm not the one making the big bucks either.

I just have a deep-rooted curiosity as to how this team would do under a different coaching system.

Well they say the best way to cure an addiction is to say that you have a problem in the first place. Maybe Mo is admitting he has a dump and chase problem and is seeking counseling for it. If so it could be the first step to a new system. But like other people have said once a Dump and Chaseaholic always a dump and chaseaholic although a recovering one would be nice.
