True Shell. Have you picked a team you want to go all the way to the cup this year Irbegirl? If not, you definitely should. Will help the off-season go by much quicker if you "borrow" a team for a bit!

Not for Sami either...I have always totally disliked them and Roenick. Don't know why...I guess I just want them to beat Dirty Leafs.

I could live with Philly taking care of the Leafs (sorry Glen Wesley!). with most teams, I'll go round to round picking favorites, but for the cup, I'd love to see Ottawa and Vancouver.

oh and Folgers, you've done a lot of borrowing :)

Say, anyone interested in another board meet sometime during the playoffs?

Hang out, have a Coke or two, watch some hockey. So what if it's not the 'Canes--it's still hockey dammit! :)

Personally, I'm really excited about the play- offs this year ~ there are some fantastic teams going and I think this series will make for some good hockey. :)

I think Tampa Bay, Washington and Dallas are the folks to beat this time around, but I'm rooting for ...ahem.... Detroit. ;)

Must...restrain...myself...from...killing...Lady J... (tries to keep her hockey stick by her side)

No offense Lady J, but why Detroit? They already got the Cup last season...not to mention how they give Barry Melrose more joy than a visit from the Hockey Falls guys to determine who has the best looking mullet. Detroit winning once again would do nothing more than give Mr. Melrose yet another reason why there *must* be alternate seeding so we could see a Wings/Avs Stanley Cup Final. Then again, so would the Avs winning.

Forgive me, I know how much you and your sister like a few of the Wings' players. But still... :eek2:

What the heck is that supposed to mean!? Lady and I like Detroit because they PLAY GOOD HOCKEY, not because we "like a few of the players". Folks around here may not care too much for them, but there's no denying that team can play their butts off. And I'm supposed to CARE what Barry Melrose does or does not say? I'm supposed to not like Detroit just to stick it to some guy you don't like?! Give me a break. I detest the Leafs but if they achieve immortality by snagging the Cup, then they EARNED it and I won't complain. I don't have tunnel vision when it comes to the game. The best man wins. The Canes aren't IT this year. BIG DEAL. There's always next season.

Don't turn that attitude on me or my sister again. I won't tolerate it.

I agree RIO. Detroit is a force to be reckoned with whether you like them or don't.

On topic, sure, it would be fun to get together to watch some playoff hockey. Helps give us something to do til at least June! ;)

I'm very sorry Rio, and I apologize for offending you and your sister, but my not liking Detroit is far more than just detesting Barry Melrose and last year's Stanley Cup Finals. Yes, even I'm not afraid to admit Detroit is a great team, chock full of great players, on AND off the ice (I'll never forget the pair of articles posted at the old LGC.com sometime ago about Shanahan(?) and Draper...very touching. Still makes me shed a tear or two behind my mask thinking about them.). But, Detroit is just one of those teams I like to call my "Green Eggs and Ham" teams...I just don't like them, Sam I am. My other "Green Eggs and Ham" teams are the Rangers and the Leafs. I have various reasons for not liking these teams...various players (Of my GEAH teams, Detroit is the one that IMO has the most likable players. NYR and the Leafs are another matter, though.), overblown payrolls (*cough*Holik*cough*), trade fiascos that somehow come back to haunt (The whole Fedorov incident (Which, as excellent a player as he is, I'm glad the trade involving him never worked out between Detroit and Carolina...)), owners/managers/coaches, etc.

Now, if the Stanley Cup Final came down to Toronto and Detroit...it's hard to say who I'd want to win. The *only reason* I wouldn't mind Toronto is because of Glen Wesley. But for a while, there were rumors that Wes was going to be shipped to the Red Wings. And on top of that, when it comes to opposing team fans, a good chunk of the ones who have been the best to us here have been and/or are Detroit fans. It still warms my heart how despite the Canes' horrible season, they and we have converted a few Detroit fans anyway. And even if not converted Caniacs, a good number of Detroit fans have been respectable towards the Canes. So with that said, I probably wouldn't mind Detroit winning a second cup as long as they're not playing a Southeast Division team, Philly, or Ottawa in the Final.

Again, I'm very sorry to offend you and your sister, Rio. While we may disagree on our feelings towards Detroit...at least we agree on a few things, hockey is the best sport, the Canes are a great team in most if not all aspects, and we are proud to support such a team and their sport. :)

I have to say I'm cheering for the Avs. I don't usually watch a lot of regular season hockey games other than the canes, but ever since bates (my favorite player!!!) was traded to Colorado in march, I've been watching some of their games and just feel the need to support batesy!! go avs and good luck bates!! ;)

I am pulling for the Avs as well, either them or Vancouver. And I agree about the Bolts, although I realistically think that Ottawa may come out of the east.

I'm sorry folks, but I cannot bring myself to cheer for any team that Bryan Marchment plays for--no matter how much I may like a player on that team.

Go Canucks Go--for great justice, of course.

I can just imagine the armageddon that would be predicted if this would happen, but what about this for your Final Four? Toronto versus Ottawa in the East and Edmonton versus Vancouver in the West. ;)

I've got Vancouver pencilled in as my pick to go all the way.

I honestly think that each and every series in the West is going to be slugfest types of 6 or 7 gamers all the way to the end.

The East..... flip a coin, but New Jersey seems to have all the holes filled to come out of the East.

Then again, what do ANY of us know? Did anyone REALLY think we'd miss the playoffs?

Well, of course I'm rooting for Detroit out of the west.

And for the east, New Jersey. Brodeur can take them places.

If for some reason the Wings go out early, I'm not sure who to take for the west. In my heart I'd like to root for the Avs just because of Bates but I've never said Go Avs in my life and I'm not sure I could do it...

I guess if I had to pick, I'd say Dallas.

But secretly, if Bates won a Cup, I wouldn't be too sad.

Maybe I should have said I would rather sit through a Menudo-thon of people singing nothing but Menudo at karaoke ----- BADLY, than see Brendan "I deserve to get a very bad illness and die a lingering and painful death and rot in h - e - double hockey sticks" Shanahan win another Cup.

Note: for those of you who don't know, or haven't figured it out, I hate Brendan Shanahan for how he whined his way out of Hartford (that is still OUR team, Folks).

The only thing I'll ever admit to liking that's related to Shanny is a well done article about his doing charity work posted at the old LGC.com a while back. But other than that...ick.

Far be it for me to defend Keith Primeau, but he didn't whine NEARLY as much as Brendan freaking Shanahan. Not even close. All Primeau did was open his yap when he should have kept it shut during his holdout (manglement was at fault in that fiasco too, IMO--but that's a different discussion for another day).
