View Full Version : We need to have an LGC.com "Grillin' n' Chillin".

I'm thinking we should have some sort of barbecue somewhere. Maybe at one of the parks by a lake in the area. Anywhere with a picnic area. Just so we could get together, eat, and have some fun.
Or, if there was enough interest we could invade some large restaurant/sports bar in the area and do the same.
Either way, we need to do something. I want to put some more faces with names.
Let's discuss the possibilities of this and what everyone thinks.
Is this a good idea?

I think it's a great idea, boss, although I live about an hour from Raleigh. As long as I have enough notice, it's on a weekend, and the chosen place is wheelchair accessible, I'd love to be there! :D

I think it could definitely be fun. Camille mentioned over in GD the possibility of people getting together to watch a playoff game. Perhaps a restaurant that could be showing one? I think we're all up for just about anything!

Pickles are great as long as they're good and SOUR! I'm sure we could find someway to get you to wherever we'd meet Fantasti! A bunch of us could carpool or something?

If some of you can pick me up, or I can manage to drive on my own by this summer, then hopefully my folks will understand. My mother will definitely be more understanding than my dad anyway...

Sports bars tend to be smokey and some folks are sensitive, including myself, so if we pick an indoor venue, let's make it somewhere sans smoke.

Definitely agree with Rio here. I have a couple of suggestions for state/city parks that provide indoor/outdoor shelters...
Beaver Dam - Been a long time since I've been there, but I remember how much I loved going there on school field trips. Beaver Dam was one of the very few outdoor places field trips were held at rain or shine because of their great outdoor shelters.

Blue Jay Point - This place has a lovely field that's great for picnicing, frisbee throwing, sitting around and chatting, etc. There's also an indoor shelter or two available for rent, and a few hiking trails leading to Falls Lake.
My personal preference would be a state/city park depending upon what's there and what everyone wants to do. :)

outdoor is fine by me. bad thing about stateparks is they usually prohibit alcohol. and I'm sorry, but when hanging out with the likes of SHC, Kat, Guin, et al.... I.... Must..... Drink. ;)

I wouldn't be able to do it any weekend before June. This thread was more to gauge interest. But it sounds like something will happen this summer. 2 things: there WILL be a grill, and there WILL be booze. :)
