I'd heard about this from a friend and found the site. It's a Russian nuclear physicist's daughter who rides her Kawasaki through Chernobyl and takes pictures. That girl has rocks.

The pictures are beautiful and profound and utterly creepy. It made me want to weep. :\

I must confess I was a little jealous of her ~ I'd love to take pictures like that. Talk about a one of a kind life experience. Of course, I'd rather not be irradiated, either.

What a moving site. Her descriptions and commentary are very moving as well. What a poetic soul she has. Thanks for posting that!

Awesome site....creepy place. I love sites like these...there's one somewhere where some guys explored an underground missile silo somewhere out west.

My senior year of HS (1992), the General in charge of the Chernobyl cleanup spoke at my school. Very interesting speech and accompanying video. He had been diagnosed with leukemia at the time, and was seeking treatment in the U.S. and seeking humanitarian aid as well.

They called the firemen "bio-robots" because it was like sending disposable machines in to fight the initial fires.

It's all kind of surreal. I am in agreement that it would be beyond fascinating to take those pictures. Really amazing. I'll bet the silence in the ghost town could drive one to insanity.

For some reason this sentence was the most eerie to me:

There is nowhere to hide from rain in Ghost Town.

I found her wry jabs at Soviet propaganda pretty funny.

Along the same lines...an American travels with a small group into Communist North Korea. A long read...but it's extremely interesting. It really shows you the very high highs and the very low lows of Communism. The guy is a great writer, too...

I'm still kicking myself for missing that. That'll teach me to take crip courses my senior year of highschool. What can I say Mr. Morgan's History class was easier. Minus the disturbing shoulder messages during tests. Night Train knows what I'm talking about. Very disturbing.

That's what you get for skipping out on the Russian general ~ a loving shoulder massage from Mr. Morgan.
