well well... the kid will most definitely at the very least skate... if not play.

but... I don't think we need to induce labor at the draft just so we can claim he was the true 1st pick of the draft that year. ;)

plus, I'm thinking Shell wants a tad more of an intimate setting. lol
it'd be great to be there, and I hope we are, but we'll have to see.

btw- I'd like to take this chance to harass ALL of you, to get your free tickets out to people. we need a big showing on this. seriously.

Well, unless a miracle happens or something, it appears I may be unable to attend.

I have been trying to find a deal for a flight to Raleigh. So far, all I can find is about $310 US on travelocity.com or $425 CDN through expedia.ca. I have also looked into using my airmiles, but am about 1400 short. But that's just the flight..... I still haven't gotten into finding a hotel yet! So, unless I can find something else (I did follow a van home tonight that had NC plates on it.... hmmmmmm ;) ), I guess another opportunity will pass me by. Sorry everyone. I'll keep trying to figure something out, but it don't look good.

Aaryn, if you don't mind the drive you might check into driving to Buffalo and flying Southwest (very good inexpensive airline, IMO) from there to Raleigh. It was sooo much cheaper doing that than flying into Canada when we went that we came out better doing that and renting a car! And the border cross was super quick and super easy. Just a suggestion. I know it's not a short drive though. Or, if Detroit is quicker, you might check and see if Southwest flies out of there.

You'd have to check flights on Southwest's website because they do not book through expedia or travelocity. www.southwest.com

edit: just looked at their site and they have an internet special right now......Detroit to RDU $74 each way. http://www.southwest.com/hotfares/hotfares_air.html

**POSSIBLE MIRACLE ALERT**

Ok, I have asked for the 25th and the 28th off from work AND taken SHC's unbelievably wise and allknowing advice and found some great fares on SW Airlines...

Friday, June 25 2004
Flights Departs Arrives Stops Refundable Anytime $123

2754/2171 9:10am 1:25pm BWI/1
2518/303 12:20pm 5:00pm BWI/1
77/161 3:35pm 8:10pm BWI/1

So? Can anyone help a fellow Caniac out and pick me up at the airport (and possibly put me up for a few days) if I book this for $123+$91, right now? I hate to ask a favour like this, but PLEASE keep in mind how much of an undertaking this is from my end. If anyone can help me out, please let me know!

I have just submitted my vote for YES! I have booked my tickets, and I will be "invading" the Triangle on June 25th at 8:54PM!

I really hope to me as many of you as I can so I can thank each of you who have been so helpful through all of this and to those of you who have been nice enough to send me items to add to my Hurri-Den.

Now, I have boiled down my hotel to 2 places, and need some help deciding which one is the best choice. The everwonderful Kat has suggested the Courtyard by Marriott Raleigh Durham Airport, and I have also found a good rate at the Wellesley Inn & Suites Durham, but I don't know which would be more convenient to getting to the RBC Center and airport (shuttle services, buses, etc.), and which one would be closer to some places where I could go after the draft on day 1 and 2 (I don't just want to sit around in the hotel room). Any feedback here would help, as I'm close to having all my pieces in place.

Aaryn it would help to know what street/road those hotel are on. Anything with the Airport designation sounds pretty close (a few exits down I-40). I would guess the Durham hotel is a few more exits away - likely in/near the Research Triangle area.

Sadly the only thing w/in walking distance to the RBC would be Damon's restaurant/bar - just across the street. Nice place for sure, but it's the only one. I don't honestly know where the beautiful/NHL people will be, any suggestions folks?

The first one is out in the Park--kinda far from the RBC Center.

The second is about 5 minutes from the Vault, and IMO would be a lot more convenient.

Blue Ridge Ramada Inn. 1/4 mile away from the RBC Center, and right off one of the main drags of town.

If there's room available there, then your best bet is to stay there.

Ouch.

OK, go for one of the two hotels on Glenwood. They're like a couple blocks apart from each other, so there's no real difference in location. They're also closer to the Vault than any of the other hotels (except for Homestead Village--of course, Homestead is right near Crabtree Valley Mall, so you can hit the Eye and go shopping too).

How far away from Crabtree Valley Mall is the Days Inn on Glenwood Ave? They have an AMAZING rate for the 3 days if I book right now (well, before midnight tomorrow), and your idea about going to the Eye has peaked my interest.

According to Mapquest the Days Inn on Glenwood is 1.6 miles from Crabtree Mall. It should be on the busline to the Mall. To the RBC center you will likely need to take a Taxi but it really should be pretty inexpensive. I have never stayed there, it is an older motel than the ones in Cary/Morrisville/RTP but it you will be much closer to restaurants and fastfoods, etc. Glenwood Ave. is one of Raleigh's main streets. They have a 24 hour diner if I am not mistaken.

Homestead Village is much newer, meant originally as weekly studio apartments/hotel rooms but now they have nightly rates.

Edited to add one more thing:
The largest "Eye" store is at the RBC center and I'm sure it will be open during the draft. I rarely see something at the Eye in the two malls that isn't carried in the store at the RBC center.

PS--I saw a lady wearing a shirt with the draft logo at Wal-Mart over the weekend. It really looked awesome.

I hope everyone that wants/plans to attend the little post-draft get together Sat. has gotten directions or at least Ami's cell phone #. You can PM me for directions as I'm the one most likely to check for PM's here.

Do you guys think we should pick Aaryn up promptly or let him sweat it out a while at RDU?? Oh, Rio, He said he'd need a trout-cicle first thing when he got in, so we need a few hundred for the freezer.

I'm hoping to get to the airport early so I don't get tied up. I have some goodies I'm bringing and hope that we can all meet Saturday morning to get to sit together at the Draft, and hopefully have a great time at Ami's Saturday night too

YES YES! Let's plan something. I am finishing up my plans and packing up here and should be on my way to Buffalo early tomorrow (about 10-11 AM). I'm hoping to get to the airport early so I don't get tied up. I have some goodies I'm bringing and hope that we can all meet Saturday morning to get to sit together at the Draft, and hopefully have a great time at Ami's Saturday night too

Cool...I don't know what is exciting me more, the actual draft or the get-together afterwards! Looking forward to meeting you Aaryn and (hopefully) many others. :spin:

Ok, but that would just mark us out to the authorities and make us easier to round up into a police wagon.

Welp, after a few delays with my flights, I MADE IT!

I arrived at Ami's and after I got a few hours shuteye, we headed for the draft this morning. Let me tell you all this...... I actually had tears in my eyes. This was something I always wanted to be part of, and now I finally was, even though it was only as a fan. That being said, MAN do we Caniacs know how to show our enthusiasm! I don't want to say too much here, as I plan on posting my journal from my entire trip when I return home on Monday.

In the meantime, I hope y'all can find a way to clear your schedules and make your way on over to Ami's place tonight. We are SOOOOO GOING TO PARTAY!

Sorry I missed the fun. I did watch the draft on tv and heard a raucous chanting. Figured it might be you lot. Hope the party was great, guys. Again, sorry to have missed it. I would've called to say hi to everyone, but I only had Zilla's #.

Glad you had a great time, Aaryn, and safe travels home.

Camille is now one of my favourite freaks.

Anyhooooooooooooo, I will be at the Draft tomorrow hopefully meeting up with those that I missed today (you know who you are). I will be wearing a traditional home (white) jersey with BECHARD 5 on the back. Keep an eye out for me!
