Practice updates

Went to practice today and I'll just highlight a couple of things.

Defauw is injured - did not practice

Kevyn Adams was MIA. Reason unknown.

Kevin Weekes did not practice, unknown if he will start tomorrow.

Tomas Kurka did not make it back in time to practice today.

Jaro Svoboda practiced with his hand bandaged.

Joe Vasicek rung the post several times.

Jeff O'Neill broke his stick and generally looked ticked most of the morning.

Patty D got a pretty exhausting workout today from his teammates.

Lots of 2 on 1, 3 on 1 drills.

Edited to add: Ward was also MIA - some sort of bruise injury.

Ok, everyone else who was there can fill in the rest.

Wasn't at practice but I'll tell you that Aaron Ward has a bruised hip which is why they called up Kurka for Saturday night.

Yeah--it's not that serious, but they're probably keeping him out so he doesn't join the ranks of the players that have had to deal with nasty infections.

Practice was good yesterday...crazy I did see O looking a little out of sorts!! What was up with that?? :crazy:

We sat behind the bench so we had a good view of all the spitting and drinking!! :eek2:

I needed to swing by the box office today and I stopped in the pregame skate. First time for quite awhile I've watched a game-day skate.

The rundown:

Absent: Ward, Hill, Francis, O'Neill (although I saw him sitting in the stands for a bit), Defauw

Notables present: Surma, Jaro, Weekes

Typical uninteresting warmup/shooting drills that they do on a game-day skate, nothing really to report there.

After the 30 minute Mo-led stuff, they broke up into small groups like normal, a few players left, etc. Randy worked with Jaro for a loooong time on what I would describe as conditioning/puck handling drills in small spaces. Looked like it whupped Jaro's butt, so I think he needs more time to get game ready.

Just called and suprise, suprise, there's no practice. i believe that's due to the fact that the team would rather ride stationary bikes for 3 hours than be subjected to tripp tracey in goal!!!!

Can't answer that. My 11 year old loves every minute of practice, but he's analyzing skates and sticks and stuff. My 7 year old likes them, but not to the degree the older on does.

Just wanted to add that if anyone goes, be sure to bring your woolies. The RBC was very cold yesterday. I presume that it's because the humidity is up and they make the place colder or something. I saw some kids that looked like popsicles, but that probably had something to do with short sleeves and flip flips. :roll:

Just the usual stretching and drills...Jeff D accidentally took a hit to the back of the head and he stood bent over for a while..but I think he is ok...O had a bruise on the right side of his face....must have come from the Ottawa game...

lovecole...you probably passed right by me and caniac369...I saw a couple come in with two little ones but didn't know it was you...I had on a purple sweater and was sitting in the middle...

It was good to see the practice and hear the puck on the ice...a sight and sound that I will be missing very soon!! :cry:

Yes ma'am, I'll be there too. (And I'll have a photo for you BatesB and one each for JeffO and CraigAdamsTheMan since they were fighting over it until they dropped it and stepped on it. ;) )

what an entertaining practice! :D the guys seemed in a good mood, even archie was hyper and joking around. jaro was there in a white jersey. defauw was there and presumably skated before the practice started (he was in gym clothes). ward was there but didn't skate. hill was missing. nccanes will give an 'official' report of what went on, i'm sure, but i will give my two highlights--

1 -- near the end of practice the d-men would take turns getting a pass from one of the coaches (i'm bad, i don't know the assistants' names) and shooting at the empty net. every time they missed they had to drop and do 5 push ups. this went on for ten minutes at least and the crowd over on that side was loving it and the guys were laughing too... :spin:

2 -- a crowd of about 10 middle-school aged girls (and younger) following Ziggy out the door like a rockstar after they got pictures with him. presumably they walked him all the way to the minivan -- it was quite a sight! http://www.geocities.com/emotiondot/biggrinflip.gif

*Players seemed all in high spirits.

*The two Craigs plowed into each other with such force that Craig A. fell face forward on the ice. The impact was so loud, that a shocked, "Oh!" from the crowd momentarily stopped everything on the ice. (And yes-- quite a crowd-- lots of little kids out of school right now). Fortunately, after only a couple minutes, Craig shook it off and continued to practice.

*Irbe was being pelted. He worked hard, as always. Bayda got a good stinger past him.

*Svoboda practiced without a yellow jersey-- good sign, there! Skated with Big Joe

*Ronnie's got new skates (Thanks for the tip, Kat)

my first reczone practice and it was fun! I didnt meet anyone because I wasnt sure how to go about approaching strangers...You know what your mama taught you! My kids were less than interested, after my 3 year old daughter had a few wan fwancis sightings she was on to other things. They do better at the rbc for some reason. My son was thrilled to get to shake Wally Tatomir's hand...he was too overwhelmed by the crowd to get up close to meet the players afterward. Practice was a good long one and the guys were all working hard today. I gotta admit, it was nice to see Arturs back on the ice. He has alwyas been such part of the team. Well, I saw a friend (non-lgc) and I have to admit that I didn't pay as close attention (nor listen) as I normally do. I was also trying to take photos, but I suspect between the crap lighting and the dirty glass, my practice photos will be worthless.

first, i have a few notes to add about the practice -- defauw was also skating, and kevyn adams was not in attendance. wow, it was good to see jesse out there!

we left early and went out back, i knew nccanes would be out there early so her kids could get ronnie's autograph. he did stop, and was very friendly. as was hlavac (! that was the first time i've seen him since he broke his finger).

my big news is that i got Brindy to sign my jersey! i mean, i've gotten his auto before but i wanted him to personalize this and i was struck by such sudden nervousness when he pulled up that i almost couldn't do it. nccanes is my witness, she saw the whole thing. but, yeah, the deed is done and i'm very pleased with the result! :spin: .....i just wanted to share my great day with everyone! :D

oh yeah, i had to leave before i saw the minivan, (shucks)

Okay, to round out the practice reports, Ward didn't skate either. With KAdams missing, Zig centered the 3rd line. Defauw skated with Joe and Vrbata. Jaro skating with JD and Jesse.

The guys were all great to my kids out back of the arena, with very few driving past w/o stopping (coughOcough ;)). They were all prepared to flag Ronnie down and they made sure he saw them. He responded by waving back at them with both arms like they did to him :cool: . They were pumped after getting his auto and chatting for a bit. This was a very big deal to them.

No mini vans were spotted ;) . Bayda had Defauw and Bruno with him. We never saw Zig or the Soccer Mom (aka CMac), so perhaps they were still in there when we left.

I started to list the guys that were especially nice, but really they all were and tried to chat a little with 2 kids that were in awe. Forslund strolled out and we chatted with him a bit. What a nice guy!

NCCANES: The blue robe is Ronnie's normal attire after the practices. He's a hoot...booking through the lobby at the RecZone with that robe :D

Your boys are lucky to have gotten his autorgraph. Everytime I see him, I just get stupid and stand there like an idiot. Little side note...your younger boy has the most beautiful eyes with those long lashes !

I have yet to get an autograph at the RecZone. CraigsTheMan got Bates to sign a hockey puck for me but my boss rubbed it off when he was looking at the puck - by accident of course ! Needless to say, CraigsTheMan and JeffORocks along with myself were in shock :eek: :sad:

I've been real lucky in getting autographs from the guys at the RecZone when I've been in town.....Craig Adams is always so sweet.... :) Martin Gelinas was another one who was always nice, also....I have so much video of that place!

I've gotten pictures taken with Aaryn Ward and Craig Adams and I will admit that all the players are very accomodating to the fans. I guess because I recently got a personalized hockey stick from Ron Francis I feel pretty set... :D :D :D :D :D :D
