Some highlights:
For his part, Rutherford said he will focus on rebuilding a defense that he saw as being "too soft" as he reshapes Carolina for the 2003-04 season.

"We'll look at our young players, we'll look at potential trades, and by the time we get along to July 1, we may very well use free agency as an option," said Rutherford. "But defense is an area that we have to fix.

"We like Tomas Malec a lot. He will be given an opportunity to make this club in training camp. Bruno St. Jacques we thought played very well for us, being a first-year player with an upside to improve."

Rutherford speaks highly of Bayda, DeFauw, Hereema and Kurka too.

Was there a conditional draft pick in the Kapanen trade? Is this it you think? Was the condition possibly that Kapanen score a certain number of goals? lol Would make sense.

Frankly I'm glad to see that ice's demise....we played some of our worst hockey on it.

Bring on the new ice, which will certainly beget better playing by the boys...
