Do you like Gary Bettman? [Archive]

I went with "Don't particularly care for him" ... he's not a good face for hockey, IMO. He's a David Stern progidy, which to me means nothing b/c anyone could've watched the NBA grow in the height of the Bird-Magic wars and the emergence of MJ. Stern got so much credit for a product that essentially couldn't fail. The only thing he did to was implement the hard cap, and that was easy against a VERY weak NBAPA union.

Bettman wasn't so lucky in his circumstances, and because of that I can't hate the guy. Under his leadership, the NHL playoffs did beat out the NBA's one year, but look at where they are now.

Time will tell. So far, I don't think he's been a detriment to the sport. But if he can't help hammer out a deal by September, he could be the demise of the sport.

Well I dont think we as canes fans gave him the perfect impression when he was here for the draft....we booed him for so long when he walked out!! I mean yeah he deserves it, and my friends in Colorado were like "That was awesome! We even booed him at home!".... i think the NHLFA needs to get in on these talks too, and tell them what WE AS FANS want. Do they not realize that WE are the ones pretty much paying their salaries? I mean buying season tickets to a season thats threatening to not happen...can they not tell we want our hockey?! :sad:

I waffled between "hate him with a passion" and "don't particularly care for him" but eventually went with the latter. I figured since I didn't boo him at the draft there couldn't be much passion there. can't really say I have any passion whatsoever towards the man.

I will kiss whoever's butt it takes to get the CBA settled, myself. Yes, even Darcy Tucker's.....and no matter what RIO says I would NOT enjoy that. :sick:

I think the same thing about the players and Goodenow. But, we're all stuck with the 2 of them, and counting on them to get this done. Like them or don't like them, they are the ones who have to work this out before we can see hockey again.

Maybe THAT's the problem. Maybe a deal would get worked out quicker with new blood doing the negotiating for both sides. :huh:

no argument from me on that point! the problem at this stage is that if they get it worked out, they are going to stay because they got it done. the only way to get rid of them both (and this may not even do it) is for there to be a season or more without the NHL. except for the time frames when they have to work together to keep hockey on the ice, I don't give much thought to either of them. they are the typical person found in their positions IMO. little sports, lot of politics, little glad-handing, little back stabbing, lot of what's in it for me and my side, little thought of the fans :roll:
