As our Canes watch the playoffs from home, how many former Canes are playing in them?
Dingman w/TBL
Sami w/Philly
Bates w/Colorado
Wesley w/TO
Malik & Langdon w/Vancouver
Ozolinsh w/Anaheim
Something is wrong with this picture...feel free to add to this list and discuss, as I'm sure I've left someone out.

Not quite that odd. Let's take a closer look here...
Dingman w/ TBL - Other than starting the occasional fight, Dingman hasn't really made as much noise as his other electrifying buddies. Not to mention how he really wasn't that much of a shot in the arm when he joined the Lightning last season.
Sami w/ Philly - Philly was going to the playoffs regardless of Sami joining them. Yes, Sami has done a little better with the Flyers. But overall, he hasn't had a superhuge improvement IMHO.
Bates w/ Colorado - Colorado was also at the point where they were getting ready to be playoff bound when acquiring Batesy. But unlike Sami, there has been a more definite improvement in Bates' playing.
Wesley w/ Toronto - Just like Sami and Bates' current teams, Toronto was also looking to be heading into the playoffs when they grabbed Wes. But, I wouldn't say that poor Glen is flourishing due to his not only being injured and out for the count, but also bringing the horrible injury luck with him from here to the Leafs.
Malik and Langdon w/ Vancouver - Now this is the best example of former Canes flourishing with another team in a way that results in a playoff presence. Vancouver's record was horrible before they acquired Malik and Langdon, and we got Hlavac and Druken in return. But, as Alanis Morissette would "sing", isn't it ironic who ended up with the better record after that trade. Trading Malik and Langdon proved to be a costly mistake contrary to what I and others thought at the time...and one could argue that that was the true beginning of the Canes' downfall this season.
Ozolinsh w/ Anaheim - Wait, who cares about Bozolinsh? All kidding aside, Ozo's situation is just like Kappy, Bates, and Wes...just got lucky and ended up on a team already on their merry way to the playoffs.

My original pondering was simply, while we aren't in the playoffs, we sure do seem to have a lot of former Canes who are this year. http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/k/dontknow.gif

Don't know if this is good or bad, but of all the former Canes in the playoffs, all the respective teams lost except for Bozo's and he is the one that has not been a cane the longest. I hope our bad luck didn't mutate with these players over to their new teams.

HOLY CRAP! I thought that game was over after Luc's shot. I saw the first replay from behind the goal and it looked like it went in. When the announcer agreed I turned it off in disgust. That is awsome. I can't believe I missed that.
Go Ducks.

OOPS I spoke in error. Glen Wesley's Toronto Maple Leafs won also, but he did not play so I guess the Cane bad luck has not affected them yet either.

You can add Roberts to the list for Toronto.
This list would get even more interesting if you included former Whalers to the picture. Marchment, Giguere, Shana-MF'N-han, Nylander, and Pronger are just a few who come to mind.

It's probably the same for any other team in the league. Players who don't play for them anymore are in the playoffs with a different teams. With all the trades every year, it's bound to happen a lot.

Yeah, I think was maybe the players who'd been with the Canes most recently - this season and last. Otherwise, there's probably a former player on most every playoff team.

batesb I was thinking the same thing earlier in the week....
Everyone that has left us this year has seemed to flourish.. hmmmmmm??
Dunno about that. Their teams have flourished, but i'd draw the line way before saying players such as Dingman & Kapanen have flourished.
