Two words: Norm Chow.

State should not have let that man go.

State didn't let him go. He wanted to leave. He wanted to go back west. Plus he really came here to leave BYU. They skipped over him for thier head coaching position. Basically there was nothing State could do to keep him. Norm was a great Offensive coordinator though.

Having had a day to relax after the loss, state will be fine. The team will turn it around. Chuck has had one bad season, we need to just relax.

I can handle losing. I can't handle stupid, stupid penalties and an obvious lack of respect for the staff for over a year.

Stupid penalties and lack of discipline gave us that "L" yesterday... #71 (his name escapes me) kept getting penalties and then he lost his temper and got us 15 more.. the men in my section were ready to kick his ass and Chuck's.. he should have been taken out..

NC State is the biggest example of underachievement in college sports.

Their fans exuberance I hear on 850 the Buzz is only surpassed but their ignorance.

I am so glad that UNC rolled them once again.

I am true a netural college football fan. I don't really care who wins. I was born and raised up north so I have no affilation with the teams down here. Last week I had to listen to all the caller say the have to beat up on the teams in the middle and bottom of the ACC. How they out talent almost every team in the ACC and Blah Blah Blah. The people down here on the station have made me anti State.

NC State is a middle of the pack ACC team at best. Yet every week I have to hear how much talent they have and how much better they are then UNC and how they should of beat VA Tech, with all these unrealistic vision of what the program is. I mean the highest finish in the ACC State has had was 4th recently. Have they ever did better than that? If so, I would love to know when. I have much respect at people that support their team but the delusions of grandure I can not deal with.

These people are the same ones that were calling for Herb's head will be calling for Amato's head and I'm sorry but are ignorant.

A college player waives his right to play the student-athlete invunerability card when he assaults a coach in public during a game.

Perhaps "assault" is a bit strong, but I don't know what else to call it. My mind is truly boggled that I haven't seen a press release/any news about Derek Morris being suspended.

I think the problem is possibly a little more systemic than that--I mean, how many assistants have left in the last 3 years? It seems like every season, an assistant coach runs screaming from State, and that's not a good thing.

Shout aloud to the men who will play the game to win
We're behind you, keep fighting for State---
Hold that line, hold 'em fast,
We'll reach victory at last
We're behind you, keep fighting for State---
Rise up to the fray and let your colors wave,
Shout out for dear old N.C. State;--GO STATE!
And where-e'er we go,
we'll let the whole world know,
We're behind you, keep fighting for State.

Whether or not Chuck is hard to work with, the entire staff isn't getting the message across to the players. Granted, some players are nearly uncoachable, but the high-talent players (Mario Williams, Lawson, TJ Williams, Baker), those who might be inclined to be brazen due to their value, aren't the ones taking the dumb penalties.

If this was a new problem, I wouldn't be so steamed, but it's been this way for a year and a half, and it seems to be escalating if we consider the Morris incident from Saturday.

I don't expect State to win the National Championship or the ACC. I'm happy if we beat Maryland. What I do expect is some sort of evidence that changes are being made. The names need to come off the jerseys next week. Something like that. I just want some evidence that the coaching staff is trying to make a difference. All I see now is a bunch of talk and a lack of accountability with no change.

^ What in the hell is that supposed to mean?

Whether or not Chuck is hard to work with, the entire staff isn't getting the message across to the players. Granted, some players are nearly uncoachable, but the high-talent players (Mario Williams, Lawson, TJ Williams, Baker), those who might be inclined to be brazen due to their value, aren't the ones taking the dumb penalties.

you obviously missed my post on the previous page. I suggest you read it. and take heed.

it's not like members here pay money... so there's really no need for us to keep people that don't follow the rules. there's no upside for us, it only creates more work.

Let me make this clear.

YOU HAVE ONE MORE CHANCE. Settle down and pretend to be a decent human being, and you may stay.

I don't know. I'm as hardcore of a State fan as you may find, but I do think Chuck has been diffcult to work with. Chow and some of the others leaving were no-brainers. Some of the others are iffier.

there's certainly been some flare ups, but i can't think of one significant person who left b/c of a conflict with Chuck.

NC State is the biggest example of underachievement in college sports.

Their fans exuberance I hear on 850 the Buzz is only surpassed but their ignorance.

I am so glad that UNC rolled them once again.

If "ignorant" fans calling a radio station is any reason to despise a program then you should pretty much hate all of the triangle teams. Every college has the fringe fanatical element that spouts the usual misplaced vitriol. Trust me when the tarheels where doing well in the ACC they had their share of fools calling the radio stations. Wait till basketball season to see what I mean.

As far as state having talent or not, talent alone wins you nothing if that talent is not realized. Does state have talented players? Yes it does. I would say we did a great job against a Va Tech offense that just destroyed GTech. I think that showed some of the talent we have on defense don’t you?

I think a better example of underachieving and getting rolled might be Louisville last week. Getting rolled is not losing to your rival, who was a better team last year, by one touchdown. I think you may be emulating those you proclaim to despise in your posts.

But, in all honesty, 90% of the people who call the buzz are morons. 90% of their hosts are aswell. I do, however, like Chris Clark. It jsut aint right to denigrate an entire fan base based upon the actions of a few. Its like that stupid article that warned Carolina fans to stay away from the fairgrounds lot for fear of the students shooting them.

Yes but do these callers make you hate UNC and Duke basketball?

If anything Herb's coaching output equals Amato's. State still tends to lay a solid egg or two in Basketball. While herb has been to the field of 64 alot lately he took his sweet time getting us to that point. I hope we give Chuck the same amount of time to establish his program here. That is why i say state fans need to relax.

I'll agree that there have been some pretty terrible performances here and there under Herb, but at least Herb's players know who is in charge of the team.

I can handle losing. I can't handle losing when the players act like they've already won and disrespect the coaching staff. Of course, the logical course of action is to get rid of those players (as I said earlier, I'm baffled that Derek Morris hasn't been suspended). However, it's starting to look like those attitudes may be flourishing under Amato, which isn't a good sign for his control.

I think we are taking one instance and making it sound like everyone on the team is a problem. I think there are plenty of examples of players getting kicked to the curb in Chucks program.

Also this celebrating on the field you see is present in every college football team out there. Good or bad it is more rare to see it not on the field. It seems to me we are all upset that we lost to Carolina and we want someone to pay and now we are looking for fault and character flaws in the coach.

Chuck is coaching and pushing a similar attitude that you will see in Miami or Florida St. His teams will have a swagger that you see on those teams. Now my question is were you complaining about the celebrations and swagger when we won the Gator Bowl? I don't remember quit the outcry for this crap then. And we had plenty of on field pregame celebration then.

It's tough to group all these kids together ... from everyone I've talked (a few diff. NC State beat writers who have worked here), there are some real nice kids (Tramain Hall is always mentioned as a great young man).

And Chuck hasn't had problems booting players ... see Richard Washington, the team's top WR last year. There haven't been a large amount of off-the-field problems or on-the-field discipline (as in losing control, not penalties, ect.) issues.

I'm sure the Morris thing was, at some level, frustration, and I'm sure there will be some discipline handed down for his actions.

The swagger and celebrating isn't a problem, though it is a little silly now that we've lost five of our last six home games.

The constant lack of common sense is a problem. I can almost forgive Morris for pushing the ref, as it was the heat of the moment and he probably didn't realize it was a ref's hand on him until it was too late. However, shoving a coach is completely unacceptable under any circumstances (in a game, no less!), especially in college.

You're right, though, it's not the whole team. There has been talk of making a spectacle of the pre-game walk, but it would indeed be terribly unfair to those like Toney, Tramain, TJ, Manny, and Mario, those who work their butts off and think. With that said, there are quite a few players who don't seem to care at all about discipline, and don't care what the coaches say because it's obvious they won't be punished.

The people who were kicked off Chuck's teams recently (Washington and Golden) were dismissed for drug-related offenses, and if he'd stayed, TA would've been suspended as being academically ineligible.

40-Year-Old Realizes Dream In College Football Game

POSTED: 9:50 am EDT September 26, 2005

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- As plays go in college football, it was a simple one -- he lined up, took a couple of steps, caught a pass and ran for nine yards.

But it was anything but an ordinary play. That's because the ball was caught by Tim Frisby, a 40-year-old walk-on at the University of South Carolina.

Frisby joined the Gamecocks last season after serving 20 years in the Army and raising six children.

The man called "Pops" by his teammates and coaches always dreamed of playing football. Instead, he joined the Army after high school. After retiring from the military, Frisby enrolled at South Carolina, where he's studying broadcast journalism.

He also earned a spot on the Gamecocks. Teammates and coaches say he has worked as hard as anyone else on the team. And with South Carolina leading handily on Saturday, Coach Steve Spurrier decided it was time to put Frisby in the game. His catch came on his first play.

I know we were lucky to pull that "rabbit out of our hat" last night against Tech but I have a question... what was the difference in Williams** falling on the ball in the end zone as opposed to the Tech player that did it on their last TD?? Looked the same to me.. and on the other Tech TD, it looked like he pretty much tried to spike the ball... maybe I was just tired but it pissed me off. The field goal kicker is probably in Siberia today. :eek2:

No, they just don't know how to do any better.
All around, I can't find anything optimistic or good about last night's game. What could have gone wrong went wrong...just sheer incompetence all around.
And what happened to the defense? They didn't really lose that much from last year when they were best in the country...and Clemson runs all over them, and then passes when the RB gets hurt. That's gotta fall on the shoulders of the new coordinator.

I believe we went to a bowl every year that he was coach. He was a strict disciplinarian, but he freakin rocked.. :spin: He had health problems that took him out of coaching..

State's at a point now where they should be able to draw a top-name coach here. I guess we know that after they got Amato out of Florida State, and Trestman out of the NFL...but if Stanford can get Tyrone Willingham, we can get somebody good.

I don't think we should give up on Chuck yet...but what has he done? 1 Gator Bowl win, via a quarterback that Mike O'Cain recruited.

Then again, they'd probably get somebody like Skip Holtz.

Skip Holtz type?? I see your point.. ;) I hope they can turn it around under Chuck... I have my doubts... I am ready for some big time wins in that big time stadium. If I had poured a sh*tload of money into it like I know some people have, I would really be pissed off. I want a team that has a consistent winning record and annual bowl trips... with the recruiting we have and the talent that could be, there is no reason why we can't... if we keep on losing and stinking up the field, nobody will want to play here dammit..

Report: Offensive message on screen

On Monday, Fowler was trying to determine the veracity of a report about the video screen. The Technician, N.C. State's student newspaper, reported in an editorial that the screen carried a message offensive to Hispanics late in the game. The report said the camera scanned the crowd and labeled images as "Kissing Cam," "Fan Cam." An image of a Hispanic-looking couple was labeled "Mexi-cam," according to the report.

Fowler said the "Canes Vision" crew that runs the video board at Carolina Hurricanes NHL games at RBC Center is responsible for the Carter-Finley screen. He said he is investigating whether the report is true, and apologized in advance if the message did appear.

Koren Robinson Slowly Growing Into Role With Minnesota

POSTED: 4:35 pm EDT October 26, 2005
UPDATED: 4:35 pm EDT October 26, 2005

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Koren Robinson caught the kickoff, zoomed straight ahead, darted left and ran up the sideline.

Green Bay's Ryan Longwell, the player who booted him the ball and the only man left last Sunday between Robinson and his first touchdown for Minnesota, nudged him out of bounds after a 72-yard return.

The Vikings fumbled on the next play, rendering Robinson's effort temporarily moot. But it was a big step forward in his quest to regain status as one of the league's true skill-position standouts.

Following the game came the classic cliche question: So how did it feel?

"Like a Ferrari," Robinson said, smiling slyly.

In an alcohol treatment center for a month this summer after a drunken driving charge, Robinson wasn't sure if he would ever get another chance to don an NFL jersey. He had been released by Seattle and his reputation around the league was as a talented but troubled player.

"Just being able to show people my playmaking ability, that's good for me," Robinson said. "I feel like I'm doing something, like I'm contributing to the win."

Minnesota signed him just before the regular season started to bolster its depth and take a chance on a speedy, talented player who was drafted with the ninth overall pick out of North Carolina State by the Seahawks in 2001 and racked up 1,240 yards and five touchdowns receiving the next year.

Inactive for the first two games this season, Robinson has only three catches for 13 yards in four contests while playing a crowded position, but he has helped fill a void on the kickoff return. His 25-yard return late in the fourth quarter against the Packers last week gave the Vikings a shot to complete two passes and let Paul Edinger kick the winning 56-yard field goal while time expired.

"I was just playing my role, whatever my role is," said Robinson, whose 23.6-yard average ranks seventh in the NFC. "I would like to have more opportunities on the offensive side of the ball, but I guess that's going to come with time. I feel like when you make a big play on special teams ... that's just going to boost my confidence up. Then I'm going to just go out even harder on the offensive side of the ball and try to do something even bigger."

Special teams have been a problem for Minnesota since Mike Tice became coach in 2002, but the overall performance by those units against Green Bay was one of the best for the Vikings in years.

It will be tough for Robinson, at least this season, to develop into a go-to receiver again _ especially with top target Nate Burleson back now from a knee injury. Travis Taylor, Marcus Robinson and Troy Williamson are also featured in a variety of offensive sets, tight end Jermaine Wiggins leads the team with 32 receptions and running back Mewelde Moore is a proven pass-catcher.

"He's a guy that obviously has some abilities, and he'll be a guy we'll continue to work in the offense," coordinator Steve Loney said. "I think he's getting more and more comfortable with it."

That's fine with Robinson, who knew he was going to have to be patient.

"Can't be picky. Can't be choosy or anything like that," he said. "You know what type of situation you're going into, so just be willing to do whatever they ask. I am. I'm not having no bad feelings about it or anything like that. So everything is cool."

State is going to the Muffler Bowl in Charlotte. Mighty convenient for me, I might add! Hopefully the extra practice will help Marcus Stone learn the offense a little better. It'll be neat to see Mario Williams' last game as a college player.

Only 5 more wins would have done it!

Personally, I hate how Penn St., after such a year, gets the insult of playing the Noles.

Penn State is going to have thier hands full with Florida St. Bobby B is going to whip that team into a frenzy. You know they both want the bragging rights of a win. So I don't see how it's insulting. It's going to be a great game.

agreed ... any time you can get two of the best coaches ever on the same field, it's gonna be great.

It'll also be cool to see two traditionally powerhouse schools, Michigan and Nebraska, face off.

Perhaps you'll prove me wrong, but I really don't think Penn State is gonna have any trouble with FSU... JoePa will do what JoePa needs to do...

So Auburn, Georgia, and Notre Dame all lost today... sheesh (although ND is the single most overrated football team in Division I football)...

Can't wait for the Penn State game, even if they did get screwed with the matchup (no, FSU isn't a gimme for them, but honestly, it's the #3 team in the nation vs. a team that finished with 4 losses...)

Was that an Orange Bowl for the ages? I think so. ESPN Classic better have good footage of this game for years to come. I knew PSU was gonna have trouble with them.

I think JoPa must go this year. With 17 seniors leaving, the team is not gonna to be above .500 next year. Take this year as the last glory year and start rebuilding next year.

Great football game although I am dragging today. I dozed while watching some of it but couldn't turn the tv off. I was pulling for FSU but excellent job by both teams. I know Greg Fishel is very happy. :)

Predictions for tonight?

I say 41-31 USC.

Maybe because I can't stand Mack Brown.

I don't like Mack Brown either. His voice is like nails on a chalkboard. :eek2: But I have never been a Trojan fan either.

I think USC will win... 34-31

Heck of a game! Vince Young is the truth. That last play on the game winning drive reminded me of Ron Mexico vs. the Panthers last year.
