I'm watching the Canucks vs. Blues game and I think John is doing a great job...especially without Tripper!! Makes me proud to have him (a Cane announcer) broadcasting on National TV and showing off his skills. Almost makes me feel like I am watching the Canes right now!! Well, commercial is over....back to the game!! GO CANUCKS!! :spin: :smoke:

Isn't he though? He really is a very good anouncer...I don't know about other team-announcers but I think John far out-announces any other ESPN/ABC play-by-play guy.

I was ready to drive to Apex and TP his house when I heard him refer to Markus Naslund as Mats Naslund--fortunately he corrected himself after the third time he committed that gaffe.

Other than that, he's doing a great job.

John is definitely a great announcer and doing a fine job tonight...of course, this isn't the first time he's been on ESPN. Besides various hockey games on there, he's also done play-by-play for a few college hoops games.

It's not really John's getting a taste of the "big time" that worries me, but instead his enjoying the freedom of not having to deal with Tripp...then again, it's not like ESPN's color announcers are the greatest either.

Isn't that the truth? I would want away from Tripp too...

I agree about ESPN's color guys, but at least they have people that actually coached or played in the NHL... Tripp may say that he has, but...

Come on, Kat. Give him a little credit...he dressed for one(1) NHL game. http://www.airliners.net/discussions/graphics/yeahsure.gif

The guys on ESPN may have played in the league, but they're like listening to a brick talking...especially that bozo last night. Zzzzzzz.

Though Tripp can be a bit...er....annoying at points, I'm just thankful we have a color guy who actually adds color.

I think John shaved off the 'burns for the occasion and changed his mind...they weren't as dark/thick as they usually were. I guess he isn't John Forslund without them...

Oh they were there....they just looked real light....like he had shaved them off a few days before and let them grow back, except that they didn't grow back fully. Maybe it was just me.

After watching that game last night with Potvin doing color I was WISHING for Tripp. He can be annoying but man, Turby had it right....Potvin was like a brick. And Potvin, a hall of fame player, made just as many, if not more, mistakes than Tripp usually does and did no analysis whatsoever. I was shocked at how good he made Tripp look. I'm betting Forslund was appreciating Tripp in all his goofiness too after that foray into another world. It'll be interesting to see him with Brian Engbloom Tuesday night too.

Right on Turby and SHC...as much as I make fun of Tripp and some of the stuff he utters, I'm not afraid to admit that he at least actually does his job of being a "color guy". Especially after last night...I'm amazed that John didn't fall asleep. As wacky as Tripp can be, it's that wackiness that adds color. At least you can tell Tripp has a sense of humor...unlike quite a few of his kind, like John's partner last night.

If Tripp ever was replaced...I honestly don't know who I would want. The only person I can think of that could fill in Tripp's shoes is a dude named Don Taylor who is known for being an anchor on a Vancouver sports network and does color commentary for EA's NHL video/computer game series. But, I honestly don't know if he's done color outside of the NHL video games...

I must admit I never had that thought ;) I did think Potvin was dry as dust, but the ESPN guys are always more "subtle" since they are not supposed to be biased.

I don't have a specific choice to replace Tripp, but there must be somebody!

Boy I would love Mike Lange (Pgh Penguins) down here...Or Panger...He does have a love affair with us...

Maybe the experiment with Rod this year was experience for him to take over someday...That would be sweet!
