he can recant on advice from other officials... and if the referee so desires he has the final say.
but since overturning the descision makes it 30-30 and the NCAA has no structure for a tie, and you cant guarantee that the PAT would be made and that they wouldnt return the resulting kick with that 6 seconds on the clock... the game will stand :(

Even if it was or wasn't down...I really don't agree with the play call.
You can't just run TA up the gut every single play in a pressure situation...they see it coming. This is made even more important when he's going to be following behind the block of a rookie, back-up center, since Jed Paulsen was out. It's the same reason we lost against Ohio State last year. How 'bout a QB sneak on the 1/2 yard line with Marcus Stone, a mobile QB? How about a play action toss to a TE?

Well sleeping didn't dull this for me..  I have backed the Pack my entire life and this hatred has been growing a long time.. I love the Devils and the Wings.. AND Scott Stevens, compared to how I feel about the Holes..umm.. I mean Heels..
In all that mass of players, how could they be positive his knee touched before the ball broke the plain?? I saw the exact same play yesterday in the VT/WF game and they ruled it a TD, but the announcers had questions about it and the whole team wasn't on top of that player... I think to have the head guy rule it a TD and have someone else argue it and reverse the decision at a pivotal time like that in a game...wait..what am I saying?? This is Carolina in Chapel Hill.. never mind..

I ONLY used that reference to show how much I actually hate Carolina.. :p and the way this is going, by the time the Devils and Wings are here, Stevens and Shanihan will be collecting Social Security. :eek2:
One last thing I will add about Carolina and then I will hush. Several years ago, my sister, brother and one of his friends, went over to Chapel Hill to back the Pack. We were walking down one of the paths on the way to the stadium and this man started harassing us.. he was parked in the Ram's Club parking with an elaborate tailgate party going on and when we looked up at him guess who was sharing the tailgate?? A referee... the ref was looking at us and laughing as the man preceded to yell that we didn't have a chance. The ref was real.. it was no costume.. I just regret not getting some ID on him so that I could call the NCAA... and take a piece of chicken and shove it up that big mouth's ass..
ok.. my rant is done..

I watched the game with every expectation of UNC losing. Bottom line is that State should never have been in the position to have that play make or break them. Its unfortunate that there is a controversy among NC fans but even so - they still couldn't get it done with less than a yard to go and a second chance to put an unequivocal win on the board.
(I find many UNC fans insufferable too - myself excluded. :D )

BTW, it wasn't a rookie center...Leroy Harris, a sophomore starting guard, switched over to the middle.
As mad as the whole thing made me, the Carolina fans at the end of the game were worse. Rushing the field is fine, jumping and screaming and chanting is fine, but flicking lit cigarettes on the band and attempting to physically confront NC State players (specifically Tramain Hall) is not. The second bit made me REALLY angry because the cowardly UNC student knew full well that Tramain couldn't do a single thing about it.

All-ACC sophomore guard ... I think Chuck made the right calls at the end ... the real problem was letting a team as bad as UNC stick around with you.

Didn't know that...I know at one point right after Paulsen got injured they had put a rookie in...but he didn't do so good.
I still think that at some point, a variety of plays in the last few plays would have yielded better results.

As a State fan, I was very disappointed in the results of the game. But I must say that in my opinion, the game was extremely poorly officiated on both sides. Where do they get these guys from?
It seemed on a few occaisions that the time clock ran out before the ball was hiked, twice I noticed for the Tarheels, once for State and it wasn't called. When the ball slipped out of Jay Davis's hand while he tried to pass it, it looked like a fumble to me. His hand went forward, but the ball sure didn't..*L* I thought it was all over right then, but I was happy with the incomplete pass call! *L* Then while State was driving at the end of the game, TA was knocked out of bounds while never leaving his feet, but the side judge apparently blew the play dead first and kept the clock going. Another mystery. And of course the touchdown being taken off the board and so many ticks of the clock being wasted during the ensuing indecision. Beyond heartbreaking and disgusting. I looked at replays many times and I can't tell if he's down or not for sure, but honestly I couldn't see it very well.
Anyway, it sure adds fuel to the fire of this great rivalry. Wait till next year! Hopefully we'll get Big10 officials for that game! :D

well jim knight (the ref that allowed his TD ruling to be overturned) not only has been reprimanded before for his incompetence but has questionable UNC ties. not that that means anything of course. *sigh*
i'm still sick about this and it happened 4 days ago. yeah, we never should have been in that position against such an inferior team, but the point is, officiating should never decide the outcome of a game. there is NO precident for what occurred -- the head official (who had an unobstructed view) signaled a TD. score 30-30.
the video from the sideline shows TA with the ball over the line and no part of him is touching the ground. *sigh* this is nothing new to State fans though...i think we have been screwed more than any other team in the history of sports. you get used to it after a while....
i'm still waiting for the PAT attempt...
